Chapter 9

Katie’s POV.

Had I really just done that? Had I just agreed to become a pop stars fake girlfriend?

This was so not me, but I needed to the do the right thing and this seemed to be the best thing to do especially considering that I was in this situation because I got Zayn and the boys in their situation before I got in this situation. It’s all very confusing.

The point is I had just done that.

I picked up my phone and dialled Ali’s number. I wasn’t too sure how she would react but I needed someone to talk about it with; and she was maybe one of the only people who I could tell everything to. She was my best friend after all.

The phone rang twice and then a chirpy Ali answered.

“Heya, what’s up?” she sounded so full of life and happy.

So not my feel right now.

“Good. Good. Um… I said yes.” I just needed to let it all out and take all of the crap that was sure to come my way from Ali.

“You agreed?” she said in disbelief.

“Yeah, I needed to do the right thing and help them because it was my entire fault originally and I didn’t see another way that I could help them, so I said yes.” There was a long pause. “Plus… you heard what they said about my parent medical bills. That money isn’t going to come out of nowhere.”

I cringed at the thought of how desperate I must sound right now. But, I was. I needed to accept that and take what I could get.

There was more silence.

“Ali, you there? Aren’t you going to bitch at me or something?” I felt like I needed to be bitched to, I needed someone to tell me that I was being selfish and careless. Don’t ask me why, I just did.

She started laughing, “Ka-tie-Elizabeth A-nn is a famouu-s pop stars girlfriend.” She started to laugh even harder giving me the impression of a cackling witch.

Well, that wasn’t exactly the response I had been expecting.

Fake Girlfriend.” I emphasised the fake part very clearly.

“Omg. I’m so sorry Katie, but this is coming from the girl who hates high heels, hates bright colours, won’t come shopping with me- AT ALL and would rather read a book than come clubbing with me. It’s just so…great.”

“What, why?” what was she going on about now.

“It finally gives you a motive to do all of those things and maybe you’ll let me take you shopping and I can give you a makeover and-“I stopped her there.

“I may be a pop stars fake girlfriend, but that doesn’t mean I’m changing any one of those things. I’m not going to change into one of those typical Barbie doll celebrity girlfriends. That’s not me and never will be.” I sighed. “No matter how many shopping trips or salons you bring me to.” I added quickly.

“We’ll see. I can’t wait. I am so going to be in the papers soon.” She let out an excited squeal.

“Oh and Katie, don’t tell yourself you did it for the money, it’s clear you did it to save their asses.” She said with all seriousness now.

How did she know I was thinking that? It’s like she has some sort of telepathic powers or something. I guess she was right, and I should listen to her.

“Thanks Ali. I needed that even if you are being a total girl about this.” I rolled my eyes.

“That’s because I am a girl. Speaking of which, I need to go shopping so I look dazzling for all of those photographers.” she said happily.

I laughed and hung up.

Well that was interesting, and she obviously didn’t see being in the papers as being a bad thing. But I did.

Why would you want a bunch of strangers following you around trying to snap an embarrassing photo, everywhere you went? Where was the appeal in that?

Would there really follow me everywhere? Should I wear certain things or do certain things? Was I allowed to shop in the same cheap corner shop down the road?

I had no idea.

I decided I was going to go over to the Hotel the boys were staying and work some things out.

I needed to know all the details.

Louis’s POV.

Things around here were tense. Liam was hiding away in his room in his little bubble of self-pity and Zayn was trying to practically drink every single drop of alcohol this Hotel could offer.

What was up with him anyway? I know it’s awkward for him, with the whole Katie thing but…

She’s nice. He isn’t in a relationship, so that’s not a problem. This is going to save him ass… (and mine too) Plus- she’s hot. Added bonus.

Zayn was just being way too over dramatic about this. I needed to kick some sense into him.

I walked down to the bar of the Hotel and surprise, surprise- Zayn was there.

“Seriously man, you’ve been down here nearly all day. Why are you having such a hissy over Katie pretending to be your girl?” I asked as I prodded myself on a stool next to him.

“I am not having a hissy.” he glared at me.

Yikes. He was definitely having a hissy.

I put my hands up in surrender “Okay man, whatever. Why are you so upset about the whole Katie thing then, she’s not that bad?” I arched a brow.

He looked at me in a way in which he had never looked at me before. Zayn Malik was looking guilty. Well, this was new.

“What is it?” I questioned.

He groaned and put his face in his hands, “Nothing. It’s just awkward. That’s all. Now can you please go away man?”

“Touchy touchy. Just remember Zayn, whatever it is, we’re like family and I’m here for ya.” I patted his back lightly and turned to go.

He just nodded his head and murmured a bunch of stuff I couldn’t even understand if I tried.

I walked away and looked back over my shoulder.

One thing I was sure of, Zayn was hiding something and I was going to find out what.-Whether he told me or not.

Harry’s POV.

I was getting so tired of Liam and Zayn’s crap now. Frankly, they were acting like a bunch of depressed asses and it was bringing me down.

We were all watching the football and I looked around to find a drunken Zayn passed out on the sofa; Liam sat there like someone just killed a puppy, Niall eating a bag of Cheetos as he licked the grease off of his fingers and Louis was sat there on his laptop.

When had we got this boring? It was a Saturday night, we were a world famous boy band and we were sat acting like a bunch of old grandpas. This was just too much.

I stood off of the sofa abruptly “I CAN NOT TAKE THIS ANYMORE.” I shouted.

They all looked up at me in shock and I felt a tiny bit like a drama queen at that moment in time. But, at least I had got their attention.

“We need to get out. We are just sat here on a Saturday night, doing nothing. When was the last time, we all just went out and had fun?” I asked looking at them whilst they stared at me with wide eyes.

“I can’t even remember.” I admitted. “We’re going out.” I declared.

There was a moment of silence.

“Fine, you’re right. I’ll go get ready and we can go get some food while we’re out.” Niall pushed off of the sofa and rushed down the hall.

Boy, anything to do with food and he was all up for it.

“I second that.” Louis said.

“Zayn…?” Louis asked whilst pinning Zayn down with the puppy-dog eyes.

“Whatever, I can get some beers. The Hotel’s finally refused to serve me anymore.” He grumbled as he slipped out of the room with Louis.

“Liam?” I asked.

He hadn’t made any attempt to move yet. He was coming whether he liked it or not. It was just a case, of whether it was going to be the easy way-or the hard way.

“Fine.” he glumly said.

I was kind of disappointed it wasn’t the hard way.

He really needed to lighten up. Ever since Katie had agreed to the deal, he had been like a love-sick puppy.

I mean, I wasn’t the happiest about it, but I wasn’t acting like the world was about to drop from under my feet.

I actually really liked Katie and this whole thing with Zayn wasn’t the best way to try and get a girl’s attention when she was meant to be pretending to date one of your best mates.

I was about to go get ready, when I heard a knock on the door. Must be Benny or one of the Hotel staff.

I answered the door to find Katie standing there with a sheepish look on her face. She had a pair of tight jeans on and a jumper. She looked great. I didn’t know how she did it. And I was in my onesie. In my polka-dot onesie.

“Hey, Kitty-Kat.” I smiled as I leaned up on the doorframe.

“Hey Curly. Nice onesie. Very stylish.” She smirked as she eyed me up and down.

“No dissing the onesie. It’s so comfy.” I laughed.

She laughed too. “Whatever you say.”

We stood there for a moment longer as I took her in. She was so beautiful. Why was Zayn so against her being his fake girlfriend? I wouldn’t mind, not one bit.

She seemed to notice as time moved on and she coughed awkwardly.

Great. I bet I looked like a right dork.

“Can I come in?” she asked innocently.

“Oh yeah, sure. We were just about to go out.” I exclaimed as I came out of my daze.

She walked past me and we made our way to the sofa.

“Don’t mean to be rude, but why are you here? Apart from the fact of not being able to stay away from me for too long?” I smirked

“Well… I just thought I could ask some questions or… I don’t know.” She shrugged her shoulders and sighed.

I arched a brow at her. She was cute when she was flustered.

She huffed “I don’t know what to do. How should I act, where should I go, am I still allowed to do everything I normally do-“I cut her off.

“To be honest, I don’t think we’re exactly the people who know this sort of thing. Benny normally deals with these situations.” I shrugged.

She sighed. “Okay. Well I better go. You’re going out anyway and I don’t want to really interrupt.” She went up to leave but I tugged her arm.

“You could always come with. I’m sure the press will get a few photos of you with us and…Zayn and that will give us a head start at this whole fake girlfriend thing.” I proposed.

She was chewing on her lip and swaying whilst in thought.

“Aww, come on. Don’t be such a pussy.” I joked.

A look of challenge flared in her eyes and I knew I had won.

“Where are you going?” she gave in.

“Well-“I started.

“Nandos.” Niall walked in and stated whilst pulling his shirt over his head.

“Well, I guess we’re going to Nandos. Then probably a club or something.” I had no idea where we would be going but I wanted her to come with us.

“I’m not exactly dressed for a club…” she looked down at her baggy jumper and jeans.

“I got some of Eleanor’s stuff if you want to wear it?” Louis stated as he barged in whilst tapping letters into his ipad.

“Um…who’s Eleanor?” Katie asked.

“My girlfriend.” Louis grinned.

“Okay. If she doesn’t mind.” she shrugged.

Now…this was going to be a fun night.

Liam’s POV.

I heard talking coming from the other room as I flung a pair of jeans and a clean top on. Who was that? Sounded like a girl voice. Probably Eleanor.

I didn’t really want to go out, but Harry made a good point about how we hadn’t been out in ages and well… we did need to get out. Plus I still felt guilty over Katie, but I wasn’t going to think about that right now. I was just going to enjoy my night out.

I walked back into the room to find Zayn lying on the coach, Niall, Louis, Harry and Katie?

She looked amazing. She was wearing a black over the shoulder top and a pair of denim shorts. They looked a little tight and I guessed they weren’t her clothes.

Her legs were on full view and I swear those things went on forever.

She looked amazing and it was killing me to think about how I had just walked out on her and how when I thought about Zayn and her, I wanted to hit something. Hard.

“What are you doing here?” I exclaimed.

She looked down embarrassed and Harry sent me a death glare.

I regretted saying it as the words left my mouth. I sounded like I hated the idea of her being here and I also kind of sounded like an ass. When really, I wanted her here.

I needed to apologise though. And now was my chance.

“I am so…” I started.

“Whatever. I just came round to ask some questions and I get you don’t want me here, Harry just thought the press might see us and take some pictures of me and Zayn together.” She said with fierceness in her voice.

Ouch. She was pissed. And she had every right to be, I reminded myself.

“No, I was going to apologise for the way I acted yesterday.” I said trying to salvage the situation.

“You don’t have to be sorry.” She shrugged.

“So, we’re okay?” I asked nervously.

“We’re good.” She smiled and walked up to me to give me a hug.

I accepted it gladly and I held her in my arms for what felt like milliseconds before she let go.

We walked out the door and set off to wherever we were going.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

“Nandos.” came a chorus from around me.

We all laughed.
