Chapter 13

Zayn’s POV.

Well I guess we were about to make our fake dating official. I so didn’t want to do this. All the other boys had gotten out of the car already and it was just me and Katie waiting for a few minutes before we left.

None of us said anything for a few moments and it was awkward.

I looked over at Katie and she was peering out of the tinted windows. She looked like she was about to have a mental-breakdown.

She was breathing heavily, shaking and her cheeks were bright red.

I knew that I needed to do something otherwise she was going to look like a wreck when she got out of the car.

“Are you alright?” I asked tentatively.

“No, I’m not alright.” She snapped.

She started fumbling with the edge of her dress sleeve.

“Sorry. It’s just, there are so many people out there and well, I guess I’m just nervous. I mean what if I fall over or I don’t look alright.” She sighed.

I could sort of understand what she was so worried about. When One Direction had first joined together as a band, I went through the same thing. Wondering what the paparazzi would think, if I looked okay and hoping I didn’t look like a complete loon.

“You’ll be fine. You look great.” I put my hand on her knee for her to stop bouncing it.

She really did look great. The dress complimented her completely and her-

No. Stop there, Malik.

I knew this was probably going against the whole purpose of why I was being such a jerk to her over the past few days but I couldn’t just let her go out there in this sort of state. She was a nervous wreck.

She looked up from her lap with tears in her eyes, “Are you sure?” she whispered.

“Positive.” I smiled.

She smiled, “Well thanks. I know you hate me because of this whole situation and I’m sorry if I put you in it.”

I should be the one apologizing, I thought. No, she can never know what I did.

Instead I said, “Don’t sweat it.”

“I really am sorry. Especially considering I probably look like a disaster right now.”  She sniffed.

We both laughed.

I liked her laugh. She should laugh more often…

Wait, I needed to stop right there. The boos were distracting me. They were making me think inappropriate things.

“Nahh. You look fine.”

I cleared my throat, “Well, let’s get this show on the road.”

Katie’s POV.

Zayn had actually been nice to me. Maybe he wasn’t so bad after all.

He got out before me and opened the car door.

I tried my best to climb out of the car as elegantly as I could and managed to successfully manoeuvre my way out without falling over and causing a scene.

That was a wonder, especially in these heels.

Lights flashed all around us and the only thing guiding me through it all was Zayn’s hand.

We passed the crowd by the car and reached a long stretch of blue carpet which had lines and lines of people on each side.

It was like the red carpet. Well, except blue.

I looked up to Zayn to see him smiling at me and squeezing my hand encouragingly.

As we began to walk down the carpet Zayn was bombarded with questions about me but he just ignored them and placed his arm around my hip as we continued to ignore the photographers and adoring fans.

Some fans were slagging me off but I tried to ignore them. I knew they were just crazy fans who were probably jealous of me.

It was like walking on stage with Liam all over again but, with Zayn.

We finally reached the end of the stretch of carpet. But not before we had to pose for photos.

We turned to face towards thousands of flashing white lights as Zayn positioned his hand around my hip and I tried my best not to fake my smile.

I probably looked like some sort of hyena but the photographers kept snapping away anyway.

After a few more moments we were free to go on into the event and I was grateful. My mouth felt like it was about to fall off.

Inside the event wasn’t much better though. There were hundreds of people spread around the huge ornate hall and at least 10 photographers. At least the crowd offered more coverage.

We met up with the boys and I looked around at the crowd.

There were celebrities everywhere.

I spotted a few; Ed Sheerhan, Rita Ora and even JLS.

Although, I was sure I read somewhere they were meant to be splitting up. Shame. I had been totally crazy about them when they had been on the x factor.

Maybe I could go talk to them? No, you’re just you Katie and well… they’re them.

Wait a minute. Aren’t I meant to be Zayn Malik’s girlfriend? That ought to count for something. Maybe I would talk to them later.

The boys chatted together before splitting up and I was pretty much obliged to follow Zayn’s every little move. He didn’t really talk to anyone I recognised anyway. What a bore.

He continued to hold my hand most of the time and surprisingly it wasn’t awkward or embarrassing. It wasn’t too bad.

I tried not to let my eyes drift, but whenever they did they would fall to Liam or in some cases, Harry. It was obvious Liam and I would never be more than friends and I had a hard time accepting that earlier but I think I just needed to move on and get over it.

That might take a while.

I was really attracted to him and he was such a great guy but he had made it clear in the Limo that he wasn’t interested.

But, Harry. Now that was confusing. I knew he just wanted to get in my pants and nothing more but my emotions and thoughts about him had gotten all jumbled up when we had kissed. It had changed my whole perspective on Harry.

It’s weird how one simple action can do that.

I wasn’t going to lie, I had enjoyed the kiss. However, I wasn’t completely sure whether it was because I was pretty drunk or because I was attracted to him.

I mean he was good looking, I couldn’t deny that and those dark curls were very cute, but I still wasn’t sure about him. He hadn’t made any snarky comments about the kiss though, so that was a bonus.

I expected he would have by now. Although, now that I think about it, we haven’t really had any chance to talk since last night. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to talk, but I figured we needed to talk.

I’d find him later, to talk.

I mainly just bobbed my head to whatever the person who Zayn was talking to said. I occasionally added a joke in here and there and they seemed to like it, but I wasn’t too sure if I should interrupt to say anything more than that.

I did get asked a few questions about Zayn now and then; “So are you two dating?”How long has this been going on? Etcetera.

I really didn’t mind. I was sort of pretending I was some sort of international spy or whatever and it was my duty to play the part of Mr. Malik’s female accomplice. It was actually quite fun. I think I definitely had the whole Bond girl thing down.

All those questions were fine until I was left alone whilst Zayn went to get us drinks.

A girl with bubble-gum pink hair waltz her way over to me and I felt like I was inferior next to her.

She was at least 3 inches taller than me and her look was perfection.

Her make-up was more like a beautiful mask, her dress probably cost more than my mortgage and in general she was… well, pretty perfect. But fake. Definitely fake.

“So you’re this famous Katie, huh?” she sneered.

And just like that I was out of my little trance.

“Yep, that’s me. And you are?” I tried to be polite as possible, but it was kind of hard when she was giving me the stink-eye.

“Perrie. Little Mix.” She replied flatly as she sipped on her glass.

Oh. I think I’ve heard of that band.

“Oh, well nice to meet you.” I put my hand out to shake. I figured that was what a polite person would do.

I left my hand out for a several more moments and then decided to retreat it when she continued to stare at it as if it were the filthiest thing in the world.

Well that was awkward, what was with this girl?

“Well, I better be goi-“ I turned to go.

She grabbed my arm as I was about to turn around and I winced in pain as her nails dug into my arm.

“Ouch.” I groaned.

She leant in and whispered in my ear, “Zayn’s mine you little whore and he won’t last long with you. Me and him you see, we have history and soon we’ll be back together. Whether you’re in the picture or not.”

She continued to cling onto my arm as she looked at me for confirmation, “Understand?”

I couldn’t hold it in. I was done with being polite. So done.

“Now listen here you little psycho bitch. You, stay away from me. I don’t need some fake Barbie up my ass just because she wants the guy I’m dating. Plus, you said you guys had history, well it’s clear that that’s all you’ll ever have.” I grabbed my arm from her clutch and stared her down.

“Understand, Barbie?” I growled.

Her face was filled with pure rage and if I wasn’t so high on my own rage, it might have been intimidating.

“Now if you don’t mind, I have better things to do than talk to you.” I went to turn around.

But before I could, she did the one thing I least expected her to do in a public place…

She slapped me. It wasn’t a light slap either, it was a full on bitch-slap.

That Bitch.

I clutched the side of my cheek as an audience began to form around us.

That Bitch was even smirking.

Oh it was on. On like Donkey-Kong.

I pushed my hands back and pushed her as hard as I could. Luckily for me, that happened to be quite hard and she stumbled backwards quite a few feet on her backside.

She looked stricken for a moment and then regained herself as we both went to lunge at each other. That was before I felt hands clutch my upper arms and restrain me from tearing Barbie’s fake face off.

I noticed also, that someone was restraining Perrie. Well actually three people were.

They were all girls. I guessed they must have been her band mates as they were trying to calm her down by saying things in her ear in hushed tones.

I myself was being restrained by two people of whom I didn’t actually know who they were.

“You tore my dress, you freak!” she squealed.

I looked down at her dress and sure enough it was ripped. I couldn’t help it, I sniggered.

“Whoops, my bad. I’m sure you’ve got plenty of other pink and frilly dresses in your little Barbie closet though.” I smirked.

This just made her even angrier as she tried to pull harder against her band mates.

I turned around to face the two people were restraining me, it was Zayn and Harry.

They both seemed to be amused by the situation though.

“I will have him, you freak.” I heard Perrie shriek.

“Just stay away from me you psycho.” I yelled.

Seriously, couldn’t she give it a rest already?

“What does she mean by that?” Zayn arched a brow.

“Oh, actually she means you. It went something like stay away you whore because we have history and I will have him or something.” I tried to say in one of the most high pitched of voices possible.

“It was actually scary how possessive she was of her Zayn.” I smirked.

Harry was laughing, “Well that’s Zayn’s crazy ex for ya.”

“Ahhum.” I arched a brow at Zayn.

“It was a long time ago.” He shrugged.

“Not long enough.” Harry rolled his eyes.

Just then Louis came rushing up to me.

“Oh my god, Katie. You were awesome. I have to admit I was sort of spying on you when I noticed Perrie stalking towards you.” He squealed like some obsessed fan.

“Yeah, those Barbie lines were hilarious.” Niall grinned.

“Plus you tore her dress.” Louis added.

Our little celebration was short-lived when Benny stalked over to us looking like a bright red beetroot.

“What the hell was that?” he nearly shouted.

“Don’t you dare blame me. She slapped me first. I wasn’t just going to let her get away with it.” I stated sternly.

“The paparazzi got like a billion photos of you, though!” he shrieked.

I forgot about that.

“Oh yeah, I’m sorry it’s just she slapped me and I couldn’t just stand there.” I shrugged.

“She’s right.” Harry defended.

Benny rubbed his temples and sighed deeply as if he was in some sort of yoga class, “Okay, I’ll deal with it. But you better make up for it by giving a great performance.”

“Sure, thing. But where’s Liam?” Niall asked.

“Oh he was with Danielle. Splendid girl really. Perfect for Liam.” He blurted.

“Match made in Heaven.” I murmured under my breath.

“What was that?” Benny asked.

“Oh nothing, just agreeing.” I tried to make my smile real.

The boys all left to go on stage.

“I really am sorry about Perrie, Katie.” Zayn tried to apologize as he went by me.

“Oh and it was cool how you defended our love affair.” Zayn winked.

I punched him in the arm as I blushed. Why am I blushing?

Stupid hormones.

“Harry, can I talk to you later?” I asked.

“Sure, Kitty-Kat. Somewhere private.” He winked.

What a player.

Well that wasn’t the glamorous party I expected and I’d be damned if my cheek didn’t hurt.

Heya. Thanks so much for reading again and OMG, a hundred favz? Must be in heaven right now.

Just wanted to mention that I have nothing against Perrie! I love Little Mix it's just she was the only person I knew who had dated Zayn in real life so I decided to use her but obviously I tweaked her as a character!
