18. The Break-Up

Harry’s POV

‘Louis’ the screen read for the umpteenth time that night as my phone rang.

I smiled at the fact that he wasn’t giving up. Of course, Louis wasn’t one to give up on anything easily.

Again, I let the phone ring itself to oblivion or at least until Louis hung up.

I groaned, covering my eyes with a pillow, shutting out the world as I thought over the events of yesterday.

I admit, I could’ve done better than just plain out claiming that she was gonna dump Liam for me.

‘Damn you Harry! Damn you!’ I snidely thought to myself as I went over what I had done to myself as I went over what I had done ever since coming back.

I’d gotten into a fight with Liam, accused his girlfriend of the pressing certainty that she’d be leaving him for me… and, well ignoring my mates.

‘You,’ that’s what I’d told Ally when she asked me why me and Taylor had broken up.

I chuckled at the thought that that one words had broken the illusion.

Now everyone knew.

Now everyone knew that I wanted my best mates’ girl.

The entire band, Liam. And now, Ally.

And it was true.

She was the reason behind the break-up.

The bitter, harsh taste of the vodka singed my throat on the way down. I smiled at the now pleasant feeling as I glanced at a man I had befriended sitting next to me.

This was the life.

Not sitting at the hotel, glancing at pictures of your cat, like ‘she’ was doing.

I raised a hand, beckoning the bartender to give me another one.

“Okay, buddy. Last one,” he eyed me with a sober worried expression, “and then you gotta head back home.”

I nodded, knowing that if I offered him a crisp hundred dollar bill he’d forgo his warning.

He planted the shot of vodka in front of me then he left to tend to the other customers.

Bzz Bzz!

My phone vibrated in the pocket of my jeans.

I retrieved it, typing in my lock code and went to my inbox.

I read the message, my eyes slightly open.

I reread the message.

‘What?’ I was sober enough to get a few points clear.

My name’s Harry, not Connor.

And this message was from Taylor and lastly, it wasn’t meant for me.

I downed the shot, stuffed my phone into my pocket and left a hundred dollar bill on the counter.

“Thanks mates,” I throw at my new friend and the bartender before leaving.

Guess he was right after all.

That was my last shot before leaving.

I shoved my phone into Taylor’s hands and stared at her. “What’s the meaning of this?”

She stared at the screen, her eyes widening slightly. “What… How did you get this?”

“You,” I stepped back, “my sweet sent it to me by mistake!” I shouted, not even caring that we were so loud and that most likely everyone nearby could be listening to our fight.

She chucked my phone on the bed and placed both hands on either side of her hips. “So what? It was just a text to Connor wishing him the best.”

“Well then, how do you explain the part about wishing you were there with him and that you miss him?”

“I miss him Harry, of course. He is a friend.”

“A friend?” I eyed her. “No, Taylor.” I shake my head, pointing a finger at her. “He is your ex.”

She scoffed. “Are you jealous?”

“Jealous? Of course I am. What are you doing, texting him?”

“I… was lonely Haz. Lonely. You left me and went to a bar.”

“Of course I did. I need some time to myself. You’ve been all over me for the past few days. I needed a breather, okay. I needed some ‘me’ time.”

“You know, you should be grateful I’m dating you,” she gave me that all too superior look. “I could have anyone I want, but I chose you!”

Where did that come from?

“Grateful?” I nearly laughed at her. “Grateful? Me? Babe I’ve had to go against my fans in order to date you. I’ve been losing fans because of you.”

“Oh, so now the truth comes out, eh?” she took a pillow from the bed and threw it at me. “Well, since we’re being honest to one another. Tell me, please, about Ally.”

“What about Ally?”

I was all too surprised by where this conversation was heading.

“Ally? Liam’s girlfriend. What is she to you?”

I literally gulped. “A friend.”

She laughed. “A friend?” She didn’t believe me. “A friend, really?”

I nodded.

“I think not,” she continued. “You like her, don’t you?”

“N-no, I don’t,” I lied.

“Liar. Now, tell me Harry. What are you gonna do about it? Since, now I’m outta the way, what are you gonna do about your crush?” She gathered her suitcase and threw it on the bed, then started throwing in her stuff.

I stared at her as she went into the bathroom and gathered her toiletries.

“But,” she pauses in front of me, “remember something, she’s not free and need I remind you, her boyfriend is your friend and a fellow band mate. What’re gonna do about that? What’re you gonna do about Liam?” She gathered her remaining stuff, threw it in and zipped up her suitcase.

I continued to watch her.

“Guess One Direction won’t last to see the new year, eh?” she chuckled darkly as she pulled her suitcase after her, heading for the door. She paused a second. “Oh and Harry,” I turned to face her, “Expect a song soon,” she added, smiling wickedly back before leaving the room without a single glance back.

She was right.

What was I gonna do about Liam?
