14. Eavesdropping

Ally’s POV

I know. I know.

I’m a freak for doing this but ever since that text Harry sent me, all I could ever think of was simply, ‘What did he want?’

He was all I could think about.

Damn you Harry! Damn you!

I’m a freak.

Because in all the time during and after that text, not once have I ever thought of Liam.

My boyfriend.

The one that should be occupying my every thought.

Damn Ally! Damn! Why can’t you forget Harry and focus on Liam?

I pulled up outside of their apartment complex, turned of the engine and took a deep breath.

Come on Ally! Come on! You can do this!

Go to Harry; tell him to go screw himself and to get out of your head. Even tho’ it’s technically not his fault that you keep thinking of him.

I rested my head against the steering wheel and stayed like that for what felt like hours but was really only 5 minutes.

Okay! Let’s do this!

As I walked off the elevator, heading towards Lou and El’s apartment, I couldn’t help feeling that everything might just go wrong today.

No Ally! Stop being overdramatic!

Just as I tell myself this, I hear an all too familiar voice clearly, even though’ I’m still mere steps out of the elevator.

I paused. Yep, definitely Liam’s voice.

I quickened my steps over, surprised when I see the door slightly ajar.

“…Taylor?” was all I was able to hear as I pause slightly.

Silence followed then the sound of Liam chuckling. "It’s because of her, aint it?”

Her? Who was this mysterious ‘her’ Liam was referring to?

No one said anything for what felt like ages, so I shifted myself, pushing open the slightly ajar door a bit more and taking a step forward, pressing against the door.

Yeah, I was eavesdropping.

Creak! The floor sounds and I pause, holding my breath, worried someone had heard it.

No one came.

I inwardly sighed.

Liam chuckled again. “I thought so,” he began, “but here Niall was claiming that it wasn’t because of her,” he paused before muttering something I couldn’t quite make out. “I didn’t think you’d go so low to do this mate,” Liam continued, the other person remaining silent. “Are you really willing to put the band in jeopardy by doing this? I hope you realize that she’s one of the best things to happen tome and frankly, I’m not giving her up.”

I tensed as I recognized the voice. Harry.

“Save it!” Liam snapped in a tone so unlike him. “I don’t wanna hear from you for the rest of the day.”

My ear pressed to the door I don’t notice that Louis had come down from upstairs, in clear view of the doorway. “ALLY, WHY ARE YOU STANDING OUTSIDE, BABE? COME IN!”

My face flushed red as I mentally curse both myself and Louis for having caught me.

Louis rushes over and tugs me into the apartment.

My eyes are glued firmly to the floor as we enter the kitchen.

The atmosphere is so tense that I wish I could just disappear.

“Lads, what were you two twits yelling about so early in the morning that ya not didn’t notice Als standing by the door?” Louis moves towards where the guys might be.

Neither says a word.

Receiving no answer, Louis turns back to face me. “Als, how long have you been outside? The door was open you could’ve just marched right in, y’know?”

Instantly I feel two other pairs of eyes focus in on me, intently, waiting for my answer.

“Als?” Louis prodded as I remain silent.

I look up at him, meeting his blue eyes, avoiding the eyes of the two behind him.

“Not too long, really,” I replied truthfully. Not too long, yes… but long enough to hear what I heard.

No one says anything for a second; giving me the idea that no one buys what I said.

“Guys, are we having breakfast or what?”

I turn around to see Eleanor standing there in Louis’ tee and a rather worried expression on her face.

Suddenly the tense atmosphere is gone as Louis rushes to get breakfast ready.

Liam finally walks over.

“Morning Als,” he smiles weakly before he pulls me into a tight hug that makes me think of someone saying goodbye.

“Morning Li,” my words are muffled by his shoulder and I ignore my worries as I savour the warmth and security he provides and take in his heavenly unique scent.

We finally pull apart and he just stares at me with an expression I can’t really read.

“Li,” I say after minutes of silence and staring.

“Is everything okay?”

“Yeah, peachy.” He offers me a smile as he pulls me over to the dining table. “Let’s have breakfast.”

I nod and follow him.

The others have already sat down at the huge table and the only two seats that are unoccupied are between Harry and Zayn.

I head for the one next to Harry remembering his text from yesterday and hoping to get it out of my system. Getting him out of my system.

Liam pulls me back and whispers in my ear, “Babe, I wanna sit next to Haz please. We still need to solve some issues.”

I nodded, confused and sat next to Zayn.

Then everything made sense!
