8. Making Our Way Home

We arrived at a building that was unbelievably tall. It looked like a palace that was awaiting the queen's arrival except without the white carpet, trumpeters on both sides, and we weren't on a carriage pulled by pretty white horses,

"That would be 75.50," said the driver in a British accent.

"What?!" I said frantically. We didn't have that kind of money.

"He means in pounds you goose. Didn't you pay attention in macroeconomics class" said Risa handing the man these weird looking bills. Since when did we convert to British money? And since when did Risa start paying attention in class?

We grabbed our carry-on bags and got out of the van. We opened the trunk to get the rest of our luggage and walked to the huge double doors and up to the front desk.

"Hello. How may I help you" asked the young-looking receptionist behind the desk.

"Uhm, hello. My name is Amanda and I talked with someone on the phone and rented an apartment here not to long ago." said Amanda stepping up to the desk. The lady went to her computer and began typing.

"Amanda Georges?" asked the lady.

"Yes." replied Amanda.

"May I see some form of Identification?" asked the lady. Amanda dug through her purse and pulled out her passport and handed it to the lady. The lady resumed her typing and pulled out a piece of paper and wrote some stuff down. She turned around to grab a key off the rack and turned back towards us.

"Alright, Mrs. Georges,  it seems you have paid your rent for the next 6 months, so here is your receipt. Rent is collected the 7th of each month and you can either pay through the website indicated on your receipt or right here at the desk. You are welcome to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner here which is free at the specified times which are located in your room and you may also order in by phone." she explained. "Housekeeping is only done if you keep the blue sign outside of your door. Laundry is done on Saturdays and the laundry room is down the hall 5 doors down. Just put your clothes in your specified bin and they will be returned to you no later than Monday afternoon. Trash pickup  is on Mondays and you can take it out back. If you have any questions do not hesitate to call or come to the desk." As she finished her statement she pushed a button and two doors opened that I hadn't realized. Two bellhops were waiting for us on the other side and they grabbed some of our bags and we carried the rest. We hopped on the elevator and went up to the 7th floor and to room 715. Amanda opened the door that led to a little hallway before entering into the apartment. The bellhops dropped our bags off there , tipped their hats, and walked out closing the door behind them. Jessica and I made our way out of the hallway and into the living room where we stopped dead in our tracks.
