23. Mean

***Beth’s POV***

The sound of camera clicks immediately filled my ears the next morning. Liam and I had fallen asleep on the couch in the lounge last night. I slowly opened my eyes and saw the boys with their phones out, taking pictures of Liam and I.

“What a nice sight to wake up to in the morning.” I mumbled.

“You two just look so cute!” Louis said in a girly voice.

“I agree we do.” Liam spoke.

I turned and saw him smiling at me. “Are you still mad at me?” He asked.

“Nope. I’m so far from mad at you.” I told him.

“So it looks like we get to stay on the bus all day until the bus stops for gas. We will be in San Diego by tonight.” Zayn informed us.

“Looks like Daddy Direction has been replaced.” I gasped.

“That’s because Daddy Direction is a bit busy right now.” Liam smiled, kissing my cheek.

“Being on the bus all day with these two all day? How fun.” Louis said flatly.

“You know what Lou? Shut up. You were the ones who were trying to get us together.” I told him.

“Maybe we should have waited until tour ended.” Harry groaned.

“When we get back from tour I will be really busy writing an recording songs for my album.” I smiled.

“I’m so glad you got a record deal.” Liam told me.

“I am too.” I replied.

Liam’s phone started ringing.

“Hold on its my mum.” He said. “Hey mum…im great….yes she is great too…yeah…yes we are…finally….there are pictures on twitter?...yeah…I’ll call you back…bye mum.”

He turned to me. “There are pictures of us from last night in the park all over the internet.”

I pulled out my phone and saw tons of pictures of Liam and I yelling at each other in the park and some with us kissing. A lot of the captions were ‘Its about time!’. I checked my twitter.

@MaddieIs1DsWife: Its about time Elizabeth! I knew you two would end up together eventually. You two are so cute together.

@KeepItCurrent: Am I the only one who thinks they look like Noah and Allie from The Notebook in this picture? #EliamIsTheNewNoahAndAllie

There was a picture of Liam and I kissing in the rain last night. There was also the usual hate.

@PayneIsMine: Bitch, you actually think you have talent? How could Liam ever go for a girl like you? Just EW. Stay away from my man.

@BellaBear23: Liam just feels sorry for you. That’s the whole reason why you’re on tour with them. You don’t deserve Liam.

I decided to post a tweet.

@Elizabeth_Ashton: I don’t know why some of you are hating on me. Last time I checked none of you have known Liam since you were 5. And you think you’re more deserving of Liam than I am? I had to wait 14 years just to hear the 3 words that I have been waiting to hear all my life.

Liam also posted a tweet.

@Real_Liam_Payne: I just want to say how much I love my beautiful girlfriend @Elizabeth_Ashton. You are my life, my soul, the reason I wake up every morning with a smile on my face. I love you so much and those 14 years I had to wait for you were worth it.

I grinned at Liam. He pulled me closer to him and pressed his lips to mine.

“I love you Bethie.” He told me.

“I love you too Liam.” I replied.

“When we get to San Diego I’m taking you out somewhere.” He told me.

“Where might that be?” I asked.

“It’s a secret.” He said.

“Fine then.” I grinned. “I’m going to get changed. Noting fancy though. We’ll just be on the us all day.”

I got up and walked back to the bunks. I grabbed this outfit polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=71946978. I slipped it on quickly and grabbed my notebook. I walked back to the lounge and sat down next to Liam. My phone began to ring.

“Hello?” I asked, answering it.

“Hello, is this Elizabeth Ashton, daughter of Steven Ashton?” The woman on the phone asked.

“It is.” I said.

“We just wanted to know if you will be able to make it to your father’s court date. Its in 3 days.” The woman said.

“I don’t know. I’m sort of on tour at the moment in America. If I have to skip one concert just to make sure he is put away forever though, I will be there.” I told her.

“Alright. We hope to see you there.” The woman said.

I hung up and turned to Liam.

“Do we have a concert in 3 days?” I asked.

“No we have 4 days off after our concert tomorrow night.” He told me.

“I have to go back to London for my father’s court date.” I groaned.

“I’m coming with you.” He told me.

I raised my eyebrows at him. “No you’re not.”

“Yes I am. I want to watch your father being dragged off to prison. What he did to you Bethie, its unforgivable.” Liam told me.

“Fine. You can come.” I said.

I was silent for a moment. “I know what my next song is going to be about.”

“What?” Liam asked.

“My father.” I said.

I began thinking of the first verse. Finally after half an hour I had this.

You, with your words like knives. And swords and weapons that you use against me. You have knocked me off my feet again. Got me feeling like I'm nothing. You, with your voice like nails on a chalkboard. Calling me out when I'm wounded. You picking on the weaker man.

At that moment all the hateful emotions began coming to my mind. I hated my father.

You can take me down with just one single blow. But you don't know, what you don't know...

After 2 hours I had finished my second song.

You, with your words like knives. And swords and weapons that you use against me. You have knocked me off my feet again. Got me feeling like I'm nothing. You, with your voice like nails on a chalkboard. Calling me out when I'm wounded. You picking on the weaker man.

You can take me down with just one single blow. But you don't know, what you don't know...

Someday I'll be living in a big ol' city. And all you're ever gonna be is mean. Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me. And all you're ever gonna be is mean. Why you gotta be so mean?

You, with your switching sides. And your wildfire lies and your humiliation. You have pointed out my flaws again. As if I don't already see them. I walk with my head down. Trying to block you out 'cause I'll never impress you. I just wanna feel okay again.

I bet you got pushed around. Somebody made you cold. But the cycle ends right now. 'Cause you can't lead me down that road. And you don't know, what you don't know...

Someday I'll be living in a big ol' city. And all you're ever gonna be is mean. Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me. And all you're ever gonna be is mean. Why you gotta be so mean?

And I can see you years from now in a bar. Talking over a football game. With that same big loud opinion. But nobody's listening. Washed up and ranting about the same old bitter things. Drunk and grumbling on about how I can't sing. But all you are is mean.

All you are is mean. And a liar, and pathetic, and alone in life. And mean, and mean, and mean, and mean

But someday I'll be living in a big ol' city. And all you're ever gonna be is mean, yeah. Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me. And all you're ever gonna be is mean. Why you gotta be so?..

Someday I'll be living in a big ol' city. And all you're ever gonna be is mean. Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me. And all you're ever gonna be is mean. Why you gotta be so mean?

“I just finished another song.” I smiled.

Liam, who had been sitting there the whole time with me, raised his eyebrows.

“You finished a song… in two and a half hours?” He asked.

“Yeah. I just put all these emotions into a song.” I told him.

“Can I hear it?” He asked.

I nodded and began to sing the song. When I was finished he grinned.

“I know exactly who that’s about.” He told me.

“Its called Mean.” I informed him.

I laid my head on his chest and he wrapped his arms around my waist.

“You know, people are calling us the new Noah and Allie… you know, from The Notebook?” I grinned.

“Yes. I love you Allie.” He told me.

“I love you too Noah.” I smiled.

“Why don’t we watch a movie?” He suggested.

“What movie?” I asked.

“The Lucky One?” He said.

“Who are you? Harry?” I smirked.

“No. I just like the movie.” He told me.

We set up the movie and began watching it.
