12. Graduation

***Beth's POV***

-The next day-

Today was graduation and I have to say, I am really excited. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 11:30 am. I rolled over and saw Liam still asleep. I slipped out of the bed and grabbed and outfit. I walked into the bathroom after getting a towel and took a short shower. I changed into this after I walked downstairs and found all the boys except Liam in the kitchen.

"Hey Beth."Harry smiled.

"Hi Harry."I replied.

"So Beth, you excited for your graduation?"Zayn asked.

I nodded. "I am really excited. Especially because afterwards I get to come on tour with you guys."

"You will love tour. You can finally see Liam sing in person."Niall smiled.

Liam walked into the kitchen.

"Yes you can. Maybe I can get you to sing up on stage also."Liam said to me.

My eyes widened. "No. I'm a horrible singer!"

Liam crossed his arms. "Bethie, you have a better voice than mine. I swear, if you had come on the X Factor with me, we wouldn't have had a chance. Your voice is amazing."

I rolled my eyes. "Sure Liam. You have heard me sing like once and I sound like a dying hippo."

"Actually, i've heard you sing many times. I know you sing in the shower."He said.

I glared at him. "I'm not going to sing. Besides its your thing."

"Please Beth. We want to hear you sing."Louis begged.

I shook my head. "No. I refuse to embarrass myself in front of all of you."

Liam put his arms around me and rested his chin on my head. "I'm gonna catch you singing. Just watch me. I'm going to make you famous."

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, famous for sounding like a dying hippo."

I walked out of the room and walked upstairs. Liam followed me up.

"Bethie, why won't you sing? You used to sing all the time before I left."Liam asked.

I sighed. "I haven't sung to anyone since my mum died."

Liam came over to me and held me in his arms. I felt so safe, so comforted. We didn't talk, we just stood there.

-4 hours later-

I had just finished getting ready for graduation. I was wearing this and I took one long look in the mirror before I walked out of the bathroom. I walked downstairs and 5 pairs of eyes were instantly glues to me.

"Wow. Bethie..."Liam gasped.

"Beth, you look beautiful."Zayn said.

"You really do."Harry told me.

"You look amazing."Liam smiled.

I blushed. "Well thank you. You five don't look too bad in those tuxes."

Liam's mum walked into the room with a camera.

"Oh Beth, you look so beautiful."Liam's mum beamed.

"Thank you."I told her.

"Alright! Picture time! Beth, I want a picture with you and all the boys and some of just you and Liam."Liam's mum told us.

I walked over to the boys and Liam's mum took a few pictures.

"Alright, now some of just you and Liam."She said.

She took a few pictures. After at least a hundred pictures Liam spoke up.

"Ok mum, Bethis is gonna miss graduation if you don't stop taking pictures."Liam said.

"Liam, this is like one of my daughters graduating. Beth is considered one of my daughters now."Liam's mum smiled.

Is it weird to be in love with your "brother"? We all walked out the door and piled into the car. When we arrived at the school I saw Miranda and Emily getting out of their cars. Emily was wearing this Miranda was wearing this When they saw me they ran over.

"Beth, you look amazing!"Emily squealed.

"Thank you. You both look amazing also."I told them. "Oh and this is Louis, Harry, Zayn and Niall."I said, gesturing to the boys.

"Hi."Emily smiled.

"You forgot Liam."Miranda said.

I rolled my eyes. "And Liam."I turned to the boys."Boys, this is Emily and Miranda, my two best friends."

"I thought I was your best friend!"Liam whined.

"You will always be my bestest friend."I smiled, giving him a hug.

We all walked inside and Emily, Miranda and I took our seats on the stage. They turned to me.

"Oh my god. Zayn is even more attractive in person!"Miranda whispered.

"As is Niall. Oh my god. Did you see his eyes!?"Emily asked me.

I rolled my eyes at them. "You two are such fangirls. And yes I did see his eyes Em. I live with the 5 of them."

"So what about you and Liam? Whats going on there?"Emily asked.

"Theres nothing going on between Liam and I. Hes my best friend."I told them, blushing a little.

"Beth, we know you like him."Miranda said.

I tilted my head back and groaned. "Will you two ever get off my back about him. He's my best friend and thats all he'll ever be."

"Sure. Just don't forget to invite me to your wedding future Mrs. Payne."Emily grinned.

I lightly slapped her arm. "Shut up Em."

"Shh its starting."Miranda said, hushing us.

We were quiet as the principal walked up to the stage and stood in front of the podium.

"Today we honor the students who have walked these halls for four long years. It has been my pleasure to watch these kids behind me grow into fine young men and women. All right, Seniors, I want you to think back over your last 12 or 13 years of school and I want you to think about all that you have learned along the way.  You learned to ride bikes, learned to drive cars. You made friends, made a few enemies, found your first love and many of you have experienced the agony of your first love lost. A lot has happened. As you have grown up, some is good, some not so good. As you have grown up, times were great for some of you. For others, life has been a curvy crazy path. Parents have lost jobs, families have lost homes, some of us have even lost family members. Together we were able to pull through it. Do you know why? Because we are strong. And I feel that in your later lives all of you will only become stronger. I want you all to be courageous.  Speak loudly and let the world know you are here. You will let the world know that you matter. Keep trying new things, keep learning from your mistakes, find your voice and let it rip.  Starting tomorrow, take risks to do something big.Go to college, start a company. Be a participant, not a spectator. March in the band instead of clapping when they go marching by. Coach football. Hide eggs for the neighborhood kids. Tutor. Mentor. Donate. Volunteer. Do something instead of watching it get done. Don’t follow the path ahead of you, choose instead to blaze your own trail. And now a speech from the Senior class president Elizabeth Ashton."The principal said.

Oh yeah, did I mention that I was senior class president. I stood up and smiled into the crowd. I walked up to the podium and began my speech.

"My fellow students, we only arrived here four short years ago, and now it's already time to leave. How did it all go so fast? It seems like only yesterday that we were skinny little freshmen fighting with the locks on our lockers, trying to figure out where our next class was, and looking generally clueless to all the upper classmen. Now we are the upperclassmen, the seniors who stand here ready to graduate and move forward in the world. Yet at this seminal moment, we can't help looking back. How do we measure the time we've spent in high school? In the beginning, we measured it in class periods, counting down the day to eventual freedom. As the days and weeks passed, we measured it in semesters, and later in years as we moved from being those clueless freshmen, to becoming sophisticated sophomores who thought they had it all figured out. By the time we reached our junior year, we were confident that we were prepared to take over for the graduating seniors, and we couldn't wait to "rule the school. And now here we stand. Our rule is over, and it's up to the next class to step into our shoes and take over. I know that as I look out at all of you, I will measure my time here in a much different way. I will measure it in all the friendships I've enjoyed these last four years. Some were pretty casual and others were much closer, but I'll remember each one fondly, as I'm sure you all will, too. And when many of our high school memories begin to fade, that's how we'll ultimately measure the time we spent here, not in periods or semesters or years, but in the friendships that we made and the times we shared together."I finished.

I smiled as people stood on their feet clapping. I went back to my seat and I looked over at Liam who's eyes were wide.

-Skipping to the end-

We had finally graduated. Emily, Miranda and I walked outside to find Liam and the boys. When we finally found them they rushed over to us.

"Bethie, first of all, that speech was amazing and second, I had no idea you were senior class president."Liam smiled.

I shrugged. "Well I was. I've now graduated and given up that title."

Liam hugged me. "I'm so proud of you."

"Ok act like a dad much?"I asked.

Liam rolled his eyes. "So I kinda have a surprise for you and your entire class."

"Oh? What would that be?"I asked.

"Well, first you need to get in there."Liam said, pointing to the white, stretch, Hummer limo. My eyes widened.

"Liam, this is already too much. You being here is enough."I told him.

"Too bad. I want to spoil you."He told me.

I sighed. "Do Em and Miranda get to come?"

"Of course!"Liam smiled.

We all walked over to the limo and got in. The song Beauty and a Beat was playing.

"Oh my god! Justin Bieber! I love this song!"Emily said happily.

"You like Justin Bieber too?"Niall asked, smiling.

She nodded. Niall and Emily began talking.

"I'm going to make you sing."Liam whispered in my ear.

I rolled my eyes at him. "Yeah sure Liam."

"I will. I'll even sing with you."He whispered.

I groaned. "You're not going to give up, are you?"

He shook his head. "An amazing voice like yours needs to be heard."

The limo soon pulled into a hotel. We got out and Liam led us all to a ballroom. He opened the doors and I gasped. It looked like this

"Wow Liam, you really over did yourself."I told him.

"Not if its for you."He told me.

Half of my senior class was already here.

"Do you want to dance with me?"Liam asked.

I smiled at him and nodded. He pulled me towards the dance floor and wrapped his arms around my waist. I wrapped my arms around his neck as we danced to the song "A Drop in the Ocean". I had my head laid on his chest.

-1 hour later-

"Bethie, i'll be right back."He whispered in my ear.

I nodded and he went to find the boys. I watched them walk up onto the stage.

"Oh my god. Is that Liam Payne and One Direction?"A girl behind me asked.

"Yeah, he used to go to our school."Her friend answered.

"So as some of you may know, my name is Liam Payne and I used to go to the school that all of you just graduated from. All of you should follow your dreams, thats what I did and now i'm in the biggest boyband on the planet."Liam smiled."Anyway, congratulations. We are going to sing a few songs. This one is about someone very special to me and just doesn't know it yet."

Liam's beautiful voice suddenly filled my ears.

Baby I, I wanna know
What you think when you're alone
Is it me, yeah?
Are you thinking of me, yeah?
Oh, we've been friends now for a while
Wanna know that when you smile
Is it me, yeah?
Are you thinking of me, yeah?
Oh, oh.
Girl, what would you do
Would you wanna stay?
If I were to say
I wanna be last, yeah
Baby, let me be your, let me be your last first kiss
I wanna be first, yeah,
Wanna be the first to take it all the way like this
And if you, only knew
I wanna be last, yeah
Baby, let me be your last
Your last first kiss
Baby, tell me what to change
I'm afraid you'll run away
If I tell you what I wanted to tell you
Maybe I just got to wait
Maybe this is a mistake
I'm a fool, yeah
Baby I'm just a fool, yeah
Oh, oh
Girl, what would you do?
Would you wanna stay?
If I were to say
I wanna be last, yeah
Baby, let me be your, let me be your last first kiss
I wanna be first, yeah,
Wanna be the first to take it all the way like this
And if you, only knew
I wanna be last, yeah
Baby, let me be your last
Your last first kiss
Your last first kiss
Your last first kiss
Your last first kiss
Girl, what would you do?
Would you wanna stay?
If I were to say
Your last first kiss
I wanna be last, yeah
Baby, let me be your, let me be your last first kiss
I wanna be first, yeah,
Wanna be the first to take it all the way like this
And if you, only knew
I wanna be last, yeah
Baby, let me be your last
Your last first kiss
I wanna be last, yeah
Baby let my be your last
Your last first kiss
(Your last first kiss)
I wanna be last, yeah
Baby let me be your last
Your last first kiss

The song ended and the room erupted into applause. I wonder who Liam was talking about. I wonder who the girl in the song is.
