2. Drowning

The ship went

creak, screackkkkk, grakl

the wood splinters,

pierced the skin of devils,

princes, whores, dead,

living.

All but one,

one man.

and he climbed, he clung

to ropes, tightening,

screaming,

but the sea roared, lionlike.

The gallop of a myriad horses

drowned his pleas.

The starless night,

cast the moon,

that pale unblinking eye,

sole witness,

of the end.

The man, the mast, the ship,

life, world, universe,

It all became tinged in

that horrendous color

of despair

an endless bluck
