Voldemort's Granddaughter

Tegan was a rebel, a foster kid, kicked from home to home because of 'accidents' that kept occurring. Then in a shock revelation on a school exchange to Hogwarts, when an innocent prank goes wrong, Tegan is identified as a witch. Surprised, and relieved, Tegan begins to finally fit in. But the question still hangs, why didn't Tegan receive a letter? Was she just 'overlooked'? Or is there a much more severe reason for blocking her from her world?

21. Expecto Patronum, Goodbye.

This was the end. It had sunk in by now. A new identity, a new name, a new life. Did that mean a new person, then? What about the sarcastic comments, the witty retorts, the snarky attitude? Were those things of the past? The past that apparently never existed?

Draco was staring into the fire. He had gotten me back to the common room safe and sound. I didn't know how I felt about him. There was a lot up in the air at the moment. There certainly wasn't going to be a convenient happy, all-loose-ends-tied-up ending here. Too much had happened and too much was uncertain.

I got up to go. The land of slumber was calling my name, even if it took me a minute to recognise who it was talking to. How was I supposed to get used to all this? What if a teacher called me out in class and I didn't respond? Or worse, what if I did? What if it all begins to come so naturally that I become this identity that has been forced upon me? And forget Tegan Asher forever?

I sacrificed my past in return for my future.

"I'm gonna go" I muttered, standing up shakily from the chair. Draco didn't look at me.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a shiny black creature skittering across the stone floor.

"Uh" I groaned, disgusted.

"What is it?"
"A scorpion"

There was silence. A memory of the hospital wing flashed in my mind, the box with the scorpion carving on it, the box with the REAL LIFE scorpion IN it. I frowned.

"I never got that, actually. Why the scorpion?" I turned to Draco. "He sent me a scorpion"

"He?"
"Voldemort. I thought it was a message. Is it his logo or something? Voldemort and Sons?"

Draco continued to look into the fire.

"I sent you the scorpion"
I instinctively recoiled.

"How did you know that was what I wanted? Was it all the hints I dropped? Did you check my Amazon wishlist?"

He didn't laugh.

"I always liked scorpions. I thought it might bring you good luck"
I didn't know how to respond intelligently, so I didn't. Respond intelligently, that is, you should know by now that I always respond.

"Our class guinea pig was called Scorpio" I said.

He rolled his eyes.

"Let's name our first child that"

I smiled. He was coming around.

I turned back and headed for the stairs. Maybe things would look better in the morning.

"Goodnight, Draco" I called over my shoulder.

"Goodnight, Astoria"

And I had to admit, it didn't sound as bad as I thought it would.

A/N Thank you so much to everyone who liked, favourited and commented on the story. I am hoping to do a sequel to this following Tegan/ Astoria out in the real world, if that is something people would like to see. So let me know in the comments!

Thanks again for being so lovely!

Alexa.
