Voldemort's Granddaughter

Tegan was a rebel, a foster kid, kicked from home to home because of 'accidents' that kept occurring. Then in a shock revelation on a school exchange to Hogwarts, when an innocent prank goes wrong, Tegan is identified as a witch. Surprised, and relieved, Tegan begins to finally fit in. But the question still hangs, why didn't Tegan receive a letter? Was she just 'overlooked'? Or is there a much more severe reason for blocking her from her world?

12. Daphne Greengrass: The Beginning

Daphne placed her lips to the the rim of the bottle and guzzled down the water. She gave the bartender a tip, which was returned with a dimpled smile. He was tall, with broad shoulders and a lean back. He had high cheekbones and an angular face, quite statuesque features. Daphne thought he had a faint resemblance to someone back in Hogwarts, her cousin Draco Malfoy. How odd, she thought.
She slid of the barstool, her flip-flops hitting the ground with a thud. She was wearing frayed denim shorts and a Zambercrombie and Witch t-shirt, trying her best to fit into the L. A scene. She didn't look too out of place, she hoped.
"Where you heading to?" The bartender asked in a thick surfer-dude accent.
"Nowhere in particular"
He nodded, obviously used to this kind of airy-fairy attitude that holidayers had. Except, Daphne wasn't an airy-fairy kind of person.
"English, yeah?"
"Born and raised in London" Daphne replied swiftly.
"Are you here with family or friends?"
The bartender raised his eyebrows at the flat tone Daphne held. She nodded and left without a word.
Daphne left out a sigh once she got out of the bar. The stretch of golden sand went right down along, parallel to the line of beach shops brimming with tourists, satisfying their need to purchase crap. Daphne ran her hand through her sandy blonde hair, a habit that surfaced when she was frustrated. She had a job to do, and she was nowhere nearer than when she started. Time was doing what time always did. Running out.
"Excuse me, Miss?"
Daphne looked up wearily at a middle-aged woman who had diverted her attention.
"May I help you?".
"Follow me"
Daphne raised her eyebrows at the mad woman. Then she realized the woman was wearing a cloak, and a wand was carefully strapped on the inside of her boot.
She waved her hand towards an area down the other end of the beach.
"Well go on then"
Daphne followed the mysterious woman down to the where she had pointed to. It was just another beach cave, it's roof covered by a carpet of grass. As the two ventures further in, it grew darker in the hole. The woman took out her wand and flicked it forward, and a beam of light cascaded from the wooden stick's tip. Lumos, Daphne thought, a spell she found quite useless until then.
"It's just past here, where he was last spotted"
And to prove the woman wasn't as mad as she looked, there lay the remains of a wizard at work. There was papers all over the floor, papers faded and frayed with age. The leftovers of a fire pit were in the centre of the opening, black ash spread out along the side. Daphne sniffed the air. There was still a scent of burning in the air.
"Wow" Daphne breathed.
The woman smiled. For the first time Daphne took in her appearance properly. She was wearing a cloak that covered her hair, casting a shadow over her face. She looked younger than before, Daphne noticed with surprise, but decided it wasn't very important.
Daphne examined the papers closely. They were old Daily Prophet clippings, articles, interviews, photographs. 'Foster child sets fire to home' one headline read. 'Troubled eight-year suspected of putting child on roof' said another.
Daphne glanced down at the picture. It was a young freckled girl with dirty blonde hair and a heart shaped face. She was sulking into the camera lens.
"It looks like you when you were that age, except you were a little bonier, and had blonder hair of course." The woman took off her cloak to reveal a tangle of wild black hair. Daphne gasped.
"Bella!" She ran into the woman's arms and held her tight. "I thought you were at home"
"I'm sorry, Daphne. I had to bring you here unnoticed. People are watching, the order is pressing in"
Daphne nodded, understanding.
"What's all this about?"
She grinned.
"He wants to see you" She said, patting her hair like she always did when something was about to happen.
"I was looking for him, that's why I left. I didn't mean to worry you"
Bella shook her head.
"You did what was right"
"All my visions, all my dreams. They told me to come here"
"And here you came. He would be so proud"
"Well, when can I see him? When can I see my grandfather?" Bella's smile flickered slightly. She picked up a newspaper clipping and pointed to the girl in the photo.
"This girl is one of your own, your cousin. And not like Draco, she is your blood cousin. Your grandfather wants to see both of you"
Daphne pursed her lips. No one had said anything about another girl.
"Well she can find her way here herself, like I did"
"No!" Bella said, exasperatedly. Daphne saw something flash across her face, warning her to obey. "You must get the girl to see him, or all will be lost"
"But why can't be just be content with me?" Daphne said indignantly.
Bella's voice softened.
"Of course he is, he is just very keen to know you both. But he did say to me that he was looking forward to seeing you the most"
Daphne looked around the cave. He had been here, keeping track on them all the time. He wanted to know them.
"Okay, fine. Is she at Hogwarts?"
"Yes, as of recently. That's why you need to go back, Daphne"
She breathed in deeply. After coming all this way, she had to go home and find some cousin she had never met. The girl would probably be a right pain. But Daphne had to do it, she had to see her grandfather.
"And what do I do?"
"You don't have to do much. Ms. Asher will find herself showing who she is without much help from anyone. You're simply there to make her feel at home. Make her feel like a true slytherin. Make her trust you, and trust her visions. She hasn't had the same upbringing as you, she will be harder to persuade"
Daphne rolled her eyes. She had to pretend to like the girl too?
"Alright then. What's her name?"
"Tegan Asher"

A/N: Hello again! I just wanted to let you all know that Tegan has not been lost, the story will continue to be in Tegan's point of view. But to make the story more interesting I have introduced the character Daphne Greengrass (who some potterheads might be already familiar with) who will occasionally pop up here and there. Thank you for all your amazing comments and I love hearing your suggestions and thoughts on what will happen! 💜 A
