A Cupcake Fairytale

"Things were changing for us... and this time for good.”

Abandoned by her father before she was even born, Madison had to make do with whatever life handed out to her. She sweetened her own life by loosing herself in the imaginary world of fairytales. She was forever stuck on princesses and the sweet bakery treats her mother constantly creates.

When the opportunity of a lifetime presented itself to her, Madison realises that her life wasn't all that it seemed to be....

9. Short Term Excitement

The next five months was like a boat trip. Calm with the occasional bumps. Mum’s bump was the biggest one of all! Her stomach had extended like an inflatable beach ball and every time I wanted to hug her, I had to hug her from the side so I didn’t squish her.

Mum had been going for ultrasounds every week and they kept saying that the baby was fine. Mum said that when she was pregnant with me she never went to ultrasounds and that she couldn’t even cook for herself when her mother left her to fend for herself.

It was the weekend when Mum started fussing about my birthday. It was only a few days away and all I really wanted was for Mum to be happy.

“Do you want a birthday party, Maddie?”

“It’s only my 12th and I don’t want to stress you out!”

Even if Mum did plan a party it wouldn’t be much fun for me because my so called BFF had gone off with Stacey and I have no other friends whatsoever.

“Okay then, suit yourself!”

I looked at Mum closely. She had a tiny gleam in her eye. I really hoped she wasn’t planning what I thought she was.
