8. Kiss

I left with nervous adrenaline pumping through my body which had not yet been released like most people; the people who know. I started walking to the exit when a thought pushed its way back to the front of my brain.
God, why did I even say that? Did I mean that? I really didn’t know. I guess there had always been a connection but I never thought it was a romantic one. Never.
Suddenly I heard footsteps behind me before hands were gripped around my waist, someone’s face close to my own and I just couldn’t get my mouth to open so that I can scream, as a reflex I elbowed the person in the stomach then turned to run, not bothering to find out who my attacker is, that wastes time... I wasn’t going to be captured like my mother. I moved forwards slightly but his arms around me acted like a cage and I was stuck, trapped, everything I didn’t want to be.
“I love you too.” I heard whispered by my ear. I turned my head slightly to see Chase then I turned my body round to face him; his hands were still around me, despite him being in obvious pain. All previous words aside, I was still me so…
“Freaking hell Chase, you scared the living daylight out of me!” I shouted at him, and then I reminded myself what he said
“Do you mean that?”
His face came closer to mine “Let me answer that for you.” He whispered before his lips touched mine and he kissed me, his body was pressed against mine, careful not to press on his stomach, firmly but gently. I stood there astounded at first and he withdrew and cursed at his feet “I’m sorry” He whispered minutely. I placed my hands on his hips and began to kiss him back; he was stunned momentarily before he kissed me again. Softly at first but building in intensity as time passed, then slowly he began to work his way down my neck, dotting it with kisses, then suddenly alarm bells went off in my mind.
I loved him.
Several minutes later, I found him back at my lips, he began to pull back and our lips graze slightly. I stared into his eyes then slump to the ground
“Oh my god.” I said, it escaped my lips as I covered them to retrace where he had been mentally.
“I know.” He said sounding exhausted.
“No, I mean your mother’s going to flip out.” I said causing both of us to erupt in laughter.
We stood up and he laced his arm around my waist again and our fingers were entwined as we walked back to the train stop. We sat back down on the same seats but there weren’t many people left and not many people lived in our area anyway.
“So, what are you now?” I asked.
“I am now as of next month, the new law enforcer of our village.” He seemed proud of himself but I was afraid slightly that he’d change and become hard and brutal.
“And you?” He asked me in return, his proud demeanour evaporating as he spoke replaced by concern and interest.
“I don’t know yet, apparently there was a blip and I have to go back tomorrow.” He was disappointed that we couldn’t celebrate or console each other but he just brought me closer and kissed my forehead. The journey passed quicker this time as there was no awkwardness and our time was spent watching each other in ways we never had before and our conversations enwoven with kisses. We got off and I raced him playfully to his house shouting “Catch me if you can, runner boy.”
