Louis' Best Friend

Me and Louis Tomlinson were the best of friends. I was so happy for him when he told me about auditioning for the X factor. But once One Direction were formed, we started growing apart, we didn't see eachother as much, and didn't speak as much. He was too busy with his whole new life.

9. Chapter 9

We walked along the path hand in hand. We were walking closely, shoulders brushing as we moved.

"How old are you?" Josh asked me, still looking forward.

"I'm 17." I replied glancing up at him as we walked along. "How old are you?" I questioned.

"I'm 18, 19 next month. That okay?" He replied looking down at me, concern on his face. I assumed it was because he didn't want me to be put off about the age difference.

"Erm, yeah that's fine." I said reassuring him with a smile.

"Good." Was all he said.

I didn't really know where we were walking. It was dark, and I wasn't paying much attention. We hadn't been going for long, less than five minutes probably.

"You live in Doncaster right?" I spoke up.

"Lucky for you, yeah." He told me as he winked at me.

I laughed a little at his smug comment.

"Tell me about you?" I prompted Josh. He looked down at me confused.

"What do you want to know?" He asked, not looking away.

"I don't know. Family? Job? Favourite movie?" I said laughing at how cheesy that conversation is.

Josh laughed too, and I lightly whacked both of our hands into his hip.

"Ok, erm, my family is really normal, live with my mum, dad, sister and brother. I work in IT sales." He began. I couldn't help but laugh at his job. "What?" He asked confused, noticing my giggles.

"Nothing nothing! It just IT?! That does not suit you!" I said laughing again. "Carry on carry on!" I told him. He was smiling at me behind his pout but carried on when I told him to.

"Ok, erm, you can't laugh at this one, but My Favourite movie is The Notebook."

"You're kidding?!" I yelled turning slightly to look at him mouth open in shock.

"No! I love it!" He said hiding his amusement. I could help but burst out laughing? "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! But that doesn't suit you at all either! It's even worse than the IT sales!" I managed to choke out between giggles.

"I told you not to laugh!" He said raising his voice a bit and squeezing my hand tighter.

"I know I know! Sorry." I said controlling myself.

"Right your turn." He said giving up.

"Ok, erm, I guess my family is pretty normal too. Live with my mum and two brothers, one older, one younger. Erm..."

"What about your dad?" He interrupted looking interested.

"Oh erm, well, he died. But I work at a kids home just outside town." I said brushing the topic off quickly. Josh stayed quiet, probably still thinking about what he'd just asked. It didn't bother me, I just don't like to go into too much detail normally. "I love my job. The kids are great and we are all like a huge family." I quickly glanced up at him, waiting for a reaction, he just looked down at me and smiled.

"Favourite film?" He prompted.

"Oh my god. I couldn't choose! I love so many!" He laughed at my response.

"Come on you have to pick one! Like favourite one at the moment?" He urged me.

"Ok, ok, at the moment, probably Pursuit Of Happyness." I told him.

"That's the one with Will and Jaden Smith in, when Jaden was tiny right?" He questioned.

"Yeah that one." I told him.

"My turn to come up with questions." He said with a sneaky look on his face. I sighed, preparing myself for the questions that were to follow.

"Ok then." I signalled for him to continue.

"Hobby? Favourite music? And, erm, past boyfriends." He said winking at me.

"Oh god, ok, erm, Horse Riding, I do that a lot. Macklemore, looooove him!" I said prolonging to the 'o'. "And I'm not going to lie, I love One Direction." He looked away hiding my face waiting for his comment on them. He just laughed and looked at me disapprovingly. "And boyfriends, I was in one pretty serious relationship, it lasted 2 years, but we broke up last year. Just wasn't working anymore." His amusement had gone, replaced my content. "Your turn." I encouraged.

"Ok, I like to sing, and act. But I love football!" He started.

"We'll they're two completely different things!" I interrupted. "But singing and acting eh?" I prompted for hi to tell me more. He laughed and shook his head.

"You're not going to believe this, but, I was in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." He paused waiting for my response.

"No! No way! Really!?" I was amazed, it was so unexpected.

"Yep! When I was 14. My nan spent like £800 on tickets to see me!" He told me proudly.

"That's amazing! Now I just have to hear you sing!" I said nudging his side.

"Not just yet." He said winking at me. "Erm, favourite music, I really like Macklemore too." He looked down at me catching my gaze up at him. "And The XX and Two Door Cinema Club, stuff like that."

"I love that kind of stuff too." I informed him. He ignored my comment and carried on.

"Only been in one serious relationship, we were together just over 2 years, she ended up cheating on me. But I've been with random girls since then." He told me.

I never took my eyes off him when he was telling me about him. I listened, interested about his life, about relationships. We were both silent for a few minutes. I decided to pull my phone out and check the time. I glanced down at my screen and noticed I had 12 texts from Louis and 4 missed calls. I frowned at my screen before I unlocked it.

"What's up?" Josh's voice interrupted my thoughts.

"Erm, nothing I don't think, just my friends sent me loads of texts and been trying to ring me." I told him. Opening the first text he'd sent 20 minutes ago I read what he'd put.

"Want to come over?x"

I proceeded to open the rest of his texts.

"Em, do you wanna come over?x"

"Em, you there?x"

"Em, you never don't answer your phone?x"

"Is everything alright babe?x"

"I know I'm probably just being paranoid, but you always answer me.x"

"Em x"

"Ok, I'm getting worried now.x"

"Answer me Em x"

"Em come on, I'm seriously so worried."

"Ok I'm coming over."

"Your mum said you'd gone for a walk, where are you? Please reply, I'm coming to find you, you only go for walks when something's bugging you.x"

I'd let go of Josh's hands, making it easier to read through all the texts.

"Sorry," I told Josh. "My friends being trying to get hold of me, my phones been on silent, he worries a lot."

"You better text him back then." He told me, indicating he doesn't mind.

I quickly typed out a reply to Louis.

"Louis I'm fine! Jeez you worry so much;) I'm just out with a friend, I'll ring you when I get back. If I'm still out when it's late I'll text you at like 11 to let you know I'm still fine. Then I'll come over tomorrow. Love you:)x"

I slipped my phone back into my pocket and grabbed Josh's hand once again.

"Where were we?" I said winking at him.

"Well now I know you're actually interested in me, going to hold my hand first." He said squeezing my hand.

"Shh!" I laughed at him. "Where are we even going?"

"Just thought we'd go sit in the park for a bit." He told me as we turned the corner that led us to the park.

"Aw how cute." I said sarcastically winking at him. I swung our hands back and forth as we approached the parks field. We reached a spot in the middle of the field, josh sat down and patted the spot next to him indicating for me to sit down. I sat close to him and crossed my legs leaning back on my arms. It was so warm out. It was not like English weather at all. Fair enough it can get warm during the day, but never at night, it was so humid and warm, I loved it. I closed my eyes feeling the heat on my skin. My thoughts were disturbed by a single prolonged whistle. I opened my eyes and saw Josh looking me up and down, lips pursed. I balanced my weight on to one arm and smacked Josh's shoulder with the other.

"I couldn't help it." He told me as he eventually looked up to meet my gaze, hands in the air as if he was surrendering. I just laughed shaking my head and sat up again. Josh had his legs stretched out in front of him, legs crossed. They were much longer than mine, and he was about half a foot taller than me. I sat staring at him, trying to make out his features in the dark.

"Come on, your turn to come up with questions." He said breaking the silence.

"Oh right, yeah, um..." I trailed off in thought. He sat staring at me, waiting for my questions patiently. "Ok, do you smoke, drink, or do drugs? What's your best friend like? And favourite colour." I finished, satisfied with my topics.

"Ok, I smoke occasionally, drink quite a bit when I'm out, and only done weed a couple of times, not really in to it. My best friend, I've got two, JJ and Jaymi. They're completely different than me, they're both, sort of, good guys. I'm not saying I'm bad, but I guess I can be at times. If that make sense." I giggled at hhis descriptions, not sure of what to say. "Shut up" he told me kicking my leg gently. "JJ is a jockey, weird I know. And Jaymi is gay, and a singing and dancing teacher."

"You all sound completely different! How are you best friends!?" I questioned smiling at the sound of his friends.

"I don't even know, but we all get on so well, I love 'em." I said.

"Aww Josh! Getting all emotional?" I joked winking at him.

"Shut up! And my favourite colour is blue. Your turn." He said

"Never smoke, tried it once, hated it, drink at party's not actually old enough to go out drinking yet." I said and winked at him. "Never done drugs, and don't intend to. My best friend is called Louis. He's a guy, obviously, which I guess most people find really weird. But I love him, he's great. He's just auditioned for the x-factor and leaves for boot camp in a couple of days. We are so close, and have exactly the same relationship as any two girl best friends would." I looked over at him, he was just sat staring at me listening intently. "And I don't really have a favourite colour, I would say either purple or blue."

"I love learning stuff about you." Josh said abruptly after I'd finished. It kind of caught me off guard what he said. I wasn't expecting it at all, so I didn't know what to reply. I just sat looking at him. I felt my cheeks turn pink so quickly looked away at the ground so he wouldn't notice. He reached forward and lifted my face up by my chin with his finger.

"I can't believe I'm saying this," he started. I was nervous, what was he about to say? "But I like you Emily, I like you a lot." I definitely did not see that one coming. He likes me! I thought he just wanted to be friends with me or even to sleep with me! But the craziest thing is, I like him too. I shouldn't because of the way we met, the way he 'watched' me. But I do.

"I understand if you don't like me back, it was kind of weird the way we met, and I guess I was a bit of a cock about it." He rambled.

I laughed at his nervous nous. "Josh!" I said putting my hand on top of his. "I like you too." I said cutting him off.

"Really?" He said shocked.

"Yeah." I told him.

He smiled at me and removed his hand from underneath mine and putting it on top. "I'm the man." Was all he said whilst winking at me. I just laughed at him removing my hand and slapping his arm.

We stayed sat on the field for about another hour, continuing to ask each other questions about our lives and what we like , getting to know one another. There was no awkwardness between us, which I loved. And he is so funny, and we had such a laugh sat in the park. I'd text my mum at about 10:30 letting her know I was fine and would be home later making sure she knows what I was doing.

I pulled my phone out again to check the time, remembering I had to text Louis at 11.  It was 5 past. So I quickly typed out my message to him.

"I'm still out with a friend, I promise I'll see you tomorrow.x"

I put my phone away and continued to talk to Josh. We talked for another half hour and I decided I should probably head back as it was getting late, and quite cold.

"I better go home Josh, it's late." I told him in an apologetic voice.

"Ok, I'll walk you." He said standing up.

"You don't have to." I said as he offered me a hand to pull me up. I accepted it and stood up in front of him.

"I want to." He replied. I didn't decline, as honestly I didn't like walking round this late on my own.

"Thanks." I said smiling at him. He slung his arm around my shoulders as we walked out of the park back the way we came. I wrapped my arm round his waist holding on to his jacket to keep my arm from falling.

"I've had a really good time tonight Josh. Thank you for everything, but perving on me and sending creepy texts." I said winking at him.

He laughed and pulled me closer. "That means you want to see me again then."

I didn't answer just smiled to myself as we walked round the dark empty streets.

We didn't talk much on the way back, just enjoyed each others company. And it wasn't long before we reached my house.

"Thank you Emily, for giving me a chance, and being great company." He said stopping outside my gate and turning me to face him, holding both my hands in his.

"That's ok, I've had a really nice time too." I responded, smiling up at him and staring into his eyes. "I better go in," I said looking away. "Mum will be waiting up."

"Ok erm, bye." He awkwardly said.  Went to pull my hands out of his but before I could, he held on tighter, and leaned in to place a soft kiss on my cheek. "I'll text you, make sure you save my number." He whispered into my ear as he lingered there for a few seconds. I pulled away "Ok." I mouthed and walked backwards into my front garden still facing him. I turned around after a few steps and stopped before I pushed the front door open. I turned back around to see him still stood in my gateway. I waved and mouthed "Bye." to him. He waved back and I turned around and walked in through the door and closed it behind me.

Weirdest night ever.
