Louis' Best Friend

Me and Louis Tomlinson were the best of friends. I was so happy for him when he told me about auditioning for the X factor. But once One Direction were formed, we started growing apart, we didn't see eachother as much, and didn't speak as much. He was too busy with his whole new life.

10. Chapter 10

I was stood alongside Jackie and Louis' sisters, front row of The Foundation Studios in Wembley London. It was the final of The X-Factor series 7. December 12 2010. I'm holding hands with Jackie and Lottie, biting my bottom lip. Louis, my best friend, is stood on stage, stood directly next to Simon Cowell and Dermot O'Leary. On Dermot's other side stands somebody I don't recognise.

"And the winner of The X-Factor 2010 is..."

Louis' eyes are tightly closed, fists clenched.

And I woke up. I sat up sharply panting.

"Holy shit." I muttered under my breath. I reached for my phone to check the time, 9:52. I considered texting Louis, but knew he wouldn't be up yet. And then I noticed the date, July 21st. Bootcamp starts tomorrow. I laid back down, staring up at the ceiling, thinking about Louis, nothing particular, just Lou. I held my phone over my face and held open twitter, I refreshed my interactions and looked at my new 5 new followers. I followed back the first 4 and opened the fifth. It was Josh. I stared at his icon for a few too many seconds and proceeded to flick through the rest of his pictures, hoping another one of him would appear. And one did, I stared at that one for a little too long, but I couldn't help it, he was beautiful. I followed him back and refreshed my timeline. I read a few tweets before closing the app and locking my phone again.

"EM! Grandma's bought croissants!" My older brother Freddie yelled up the stairs. I pulled the covers off me and reached for a baggy hoodie that was on the floor and pulled it over my head. My legs were cold because of the air conditioning was on and I was only wearing pyjama shorts. I slowly walked down the stairs, still sleepy and walked into the kitchen where my Mum, Grandma, and brothers were sat around the table eating croissants. I pulled out a chair and sat down reaching for the bag.

"So who were you with last night?" Mum asked.

"Just a friend." I told her bluntly.

"We'll he was very good looking." She replied, avoiding eye contact.

"Mum!" I whined. "Why were you spying on me?"

"You two close?" She questioned, ignoring mine."

"We've only just started talking." I told her truthfully.

"Ooooh, got a boyfriend?" My little brother Billy teased.

"No. Shut up brat." I snapped.

"Oh leave her alone." Grandma said sticking up for me.

I smiled at her across the table and continued eating my breakfast.

Once we all finished a brushed my hands over my plate and wiped my mouth on a tea towel.

"Right, I'm going for a shower and then to Louis'. It's bootcamp tomorrow." I pushed my chair put and turned to walk up the stairs. Grabbing my towel from the end of my bed, I slipped off my jumper and reached for my phone checking for any texts. There was one from Lou.

"Morning, what time you coming over? I'll meet you at the corner.x"

I quickly typed a reply: "Hey, just jumping in the shower, meet me about 11:45?x"

I carried the towel and my phone through into my bathroom and turned on the shower. I dropped my towels on the floor and started playing my music on shuffle.

Sitting on the end of my bed I slipped on my converse. I sat up and typed a text to Lou: "Just about to leave, see you in 2.x"

I was wearing a peach textured skater skirt and a white vest top, I'd put my black hoodie on over the top as it was a bit colder today. Sliding my phone into my small black bag I picked it up and ran down the stairs and out the front door, quickly shouting a goodbye to Mum. I walked down the front path and through the gate. Something caught the corner of my eye before I could continue walking down the path, it was a small piece of paper attached to the gate post. I pulled it off, ripping the corner as I did and read the note.

It was addressed to me.

"Emily, I just remember I blocked my number last night so you couldn't save it, so just in case you wanted to, here it is. Josh,x" His number was scribbled at the bottom of the paper. I couldn't help but find his little note sweet. I smiled to myself whilst folding it up and placing it in my bag so I could put it into my phone for later.

I reached Louis standing on the corner and gave him a tight hug.

"You excited for tomorrow?" I said still embracing him.

"Not really sure." He replied. I pulled away and he winked at me indicating he was joking. I stepped back and let him answer my question properly. "Yeah I am. But I'm just nervous you know?" He told me seriously.

"Aw I'm so proud and happy for you!" I told him rubbing his arm.

"Come on, lets go do something." He prompted and entwined his arm through mine. We decided to go and satin the park, because although it was a little colder, the sun was still strong. We went and sat in the same spot we had sat on a few weeks ago, opposite the river underneath the tree. Lou didn't want to talk about bootcamp, so we avoided the topic completely. In my head I was constantly trying to decide if I should tell Lou about last night and Josh, in the end I thought it'd be best to only talk about it if he asked, so I carried on like nothing was bothering me.

After about an hour we were sat closer to the river, feeding the ducks with some bread a woman and her son had given us as he'd had a tantrum and wanted to go home. We were sat cross legged next to the riverside next to each other, tearing up chunks of bread and throwing them into the water over the flock of ducks geese and swans that had gathered in front of us.

I heard a bunch of lads behind us raising their voices and laughing. I turned around and there were three of them, all in jeans rolled up just below their knees. Two of them had baggy T-shirts on with rolled up short sleeves. The one in the white had a SnapBack on and the the one in light blue had a quiff of dark almost black hair. The other lad was wearing a white vest with a few bright colours printed on the front, the arm holes were really large which showed off his biceps. He too had a quiff but of brown hair. They were too far away for me to make out their faces but I sat looking in their direction.

"Take a picture, it will last longer." Louis said grabbing my attention again. He nudged my arm with his elbow. He know I was staring over at those lads.

"Shut up!" I said laughing and embarrassed.

"Do you wanna go over?" He asked seriously.

"No!" I said laughing again.

"Oh go on I know you're interested." He urged.

I looked over at them again, watching all three of them kicking around a ball. I shook my head to myself. I still couldn't make out their faces.

"Nah, I'm here with you today." I smiled at him.

"Oi! It's fine! I wouldn't mind a kick about anyway, we can just walk over and ask to join in, I'll introduce us, come on! It'll be fun!" He said trying to persuade me.

"Okay!" I sighed giving in, I wasn't really complaining, I was actually quite excited.

Lou stood up and pulled me up after him. I held onto his fingers and walked slightly behind him as we walked over. We walked in silence towards them, and we gradually got to a distance where I could make them out, both the lads in t-shirts were really good looking, and then I looked over at the lad in the vest.

Something caught in my throat. Louis noticed and turned around confused.

"What's wrong?"

"Erm, nothing nothing! I'm fine!" I told him trying to hide what I'd seen.

"Weirdo." Was all he replied and carried on walking up to the lads. The lad in the vest was Josh. Shit. We soon approached them and Louis spoke.

"Hi mind if I join in?" Louis questioned. All three of them stopped what they were doing. The one in the SnapBack spoke to us.

"We were actually about to just go an grab an ice cream," he gestured towards the ice cream can parked up by the road. "but feel free to come along."

I stayed hid behind Louis, not wanting Josh to recognise me. Not sure what good it would do, as he would eventually, but it was just to prolong it.

"Yeah that would be cool, I'm Louis by the way, and this is Emily." He introduced us stepping out the way of me revealing me to them. I avoided looking at Josh but smiled at the other two. They were both really good looking too.

"I'm Jaymi," the one in the SnapBack told us. "That's JJ," he said pointing towards the other lad I didn't know. I remembered back to last night when Josh was telling me about his best friends. I remembered that JJ was a jockey, and Jaymi was a drama teacher or something and that he was gay. "and that's Josh." Jaymi said gesturing towards him. I looked over and he was staring right at me.

"Hey!" he said walking towards me and Lou. He let go of my hand and they did their little manly handshake thing and then Josh turned back to me. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder squeezing me gently. "Hi, nice to meet you." He said. It confused me slightly but I just went along with him.

"You too." I responded emotionless. Louis was off greeting JJ and Josh stayed stood by me, I never took my eyes off him and he realised when he glanced down and winked at me.

"Lets go get some ice cream then!" Josh said enthusiastically and clapped his hands together. We walked over, JJ, Jaymi and Lou waking in front of me and Josh. We slowed down a bit so me and Josh could talk without getting heard.

"Why did you do that?" I asked Josh confused.

"I could see in your face you hadn't told him yet. I didn't want to cause any problems." He said brushing his upper arm against my shoulder.

"Thanks, I didn't really know what to say to him." I laughed a bit and Josh grabbed my hand and jogged a bit pulling me along to catch up with the others.

"I'll get these." Josh spoke up pulling out a £10 note from his pocket.

"Arh thanks!" Lou said.

"Yeah thanks." I repeated making eye contact with him.

"It's no problem what do you want?" Everyone else got a 99 but I had to have my favourite, a Zap. They are so good.

We walked back over to the tree me and Lou were sat at and sat in a circle underneath it. I sat in between Josh and Louis, Louis sat next to JJ and Jaymi sat in between JJ and Josh. We sat talking for ages, Louis always gets along so well with everybody, and it really helps me so things are never awkward around new people. It was starting to get cold and a wrapped my arms around my shoulders trying to warm up.

"Cold?" Josh asked.

"Just a bit." I replied sarcastically. He took off his denim jacket that he had tied around his waist earlier and placed it on my shoulders.

"Thanks." I said smiling at him.

It was starting to get dark, "I better get you home." Louis said standing up and offering me a hand. I accepted and stood up with his help. The other 3 lads stood up too.

"Yeah we should probably be off too now." JJ said.

I went to take off Josh's jacket but he stopped me. "Keep it till next time I see you." He told me.

"Hey, do you wanna exchange numbers? Then we can hang out some more, have a kick about some time?" Louis asked pulling out his phone.

"Yeah, can I get your numbers too? You're all great!" I said.

We all exchanged numbers and Josh pretended to get mine. I actually took his because I never got round to saving his from the note he left me last night.

"Thanks for a good day!" Jaymi yelled as me and Lou walked away.

"Yeah it was really fun! Drop us a text when you wanna hang out again." Louis replied.

"Bye guys!" I waved and smiled.

"Bye! See ya soon!" Josh said with a smirk on his face.

We turned around and continued walking across the park.

"Ok. Spill." Louis said immediately. I knew it was too good to be true. He'd guessed. He knows me too well. I told him everything. About the creepy texts, the questions, the park, him kissing my cheek, and the not this morning. I don't know why I didn't tell Lou, he was so happy for me!

We walked back to mine and I grabbed a few over night stuff and clothes for A few days as we'd decided I would get the train down to bootcamp with him to see him off. I'd been dying for a day in London for ages anyway. I was gonna stay in a hotel there too until bootcamp was finished so
Lou would have a familiar face when it was all over. I was so nervous for him.
