1. Chapter One

Christiev. That's what they called me. No longer Skye. Not that I cared. I didn't care about anyone, anything. It just didn't matter anymore. They other students thought I was cool; they wanted to be mates. I didn't want any friends. My life was over- and I was only fourteen. I remember when Dad first told me. He thought that I'd be really pleased.

We were all sitting at the dining table, like one big happy family. We are not a family. Well, me and Dad were. Before she came. After my parents got a divorce, my Dad insisted on taking me to live with him. I didn't want to go. I loved my Mum. Dad then re-married. He married a lady called Suzanna. She's horrible. She always thinks that she has top priority, just because she's the older woman in the house. She treats me like dirt, and worst of all, she's changed Dad. He always takes her side now. I don't care. I hate them both anyway. I think that's partly why Dad wanted to send me away to boarding school.

"You'll love it!" He insisted. Yeah right. Then Suzanna got pregnant. Great, I was going to have a step-sibling. That's also why Dad decided it was 'best' to send me away. It was mainly Suzanna's idea.

Dad slid the shiny prospectus over to me. The school was called Frensham Girls Boarding School. On the front was a picture of laughing girls. How could they be so happy? I thought. I slid the brochure back to Dad.

"I don't wanna go" I said stubbornly.

"Aw, come on honey" Replied Suzanna with fake happiness. Her mouth opened and closed like a goldfish. It was too big for her face. "You'll love Australia!"

"Shhh!" Said Dad, a fraction of a second too late.

"WHAT?!" I shouted, turning to face Dad. "Australia?! Why?!" I couldn't believe that he would do this to me. Send me away from my lovely little English cottage, to a huge boarding school the other side of the world?

"We need to make room for the baby" said Suzanna, her smile wide and fake, and her eyes seemed to be mocking me.

"I didn't ask you." Turning to look at Suzanna, and gave her that fake smile which she always gave me.

"Be nice to your mother, darling" said Dad, not looking up from his newspaper. I spun around to look at him.

"My MOTHER?!" I exclaimed, causing Dad to drop his newspaper on the table in shock. I stood up. "That lady will never, ever be my mother, no matter how hard you try!" I pointed at Suzanna, who looked as shocked at Dad.

"Now that's enough, young lady" Said Dad angrily. "I've had just about enough of your teenage tantrums and shouts at lovely Suzanna here."

"LOVELY?!" I exclaimed. "That's what you call HER? She's a WITCH! I bet it was her idea to send me to Frensham!" I turned to look at shocked Suzanna. " And you can lay off the 'oh-I'm-so-innocent' act. I know you hate me and want to get rid of me. Well, you've got your wish, haven't you?!" And with that, I ran to my room. I wasn't going to cry, although I felt tears forming in my eyes. I blinked them away.

I heard Dad and Suzanna laughing downstairs. They didn't care about me. It was Suzanna, Dad and the baby. One big happy family.
