Assassin's Creed Ancient Ones

A rebirth of the Past from the Ashes of the Future.

4. Welcome to The Order

"Where are we?" I asked as the man led through the people. "This is the palace underground, the order hides here, lives here." The man explained. I nodded. "Why did you bring me here?" I asked. "Maybe I can answer that?" A familiar voice said. I searched the crowd until I found Abaines. "Abaines, why are you here?" I asked in amazement. "I was the one who requested your presence." He said with a grin. "Why?" I asked. "I see the way you handle the snakes, you have no fear of them, you see them as family in a strange and beautiful way, we need someone like you here with the order." He said. "What is the order?" I asked. "The order is a family of assassins." Abaines said. I took a step back in fear and then looked around the room at everyone else. "Abaines, are you telling me that you are an assassin?" I asked in horror. Abaines suddenly looked sad. "Yes." He said. I took a step back and turned away. I could feel tears welling in my eyes. The boy I thought was kind and true, the boy I was in love with, was really a cold hearted killer. "Amunet, I am so sorry, I meant to tell you." Abaines said. I shook my head. Suddenly he grabbed my shoulder and spun me around into his muscular chest. "But I am telling you now." He said. He reached up and lifted my chin to look at him. Then he leaned down and pressed his lips into mine. I resisted at first, but then he slid his tongue into my mouth. I stopped resisting after that, I felt my knees become unstable and my breath shortened. He pulled back and smiled down at me. "I brought you here to help us, the queen and her husband Mark Anthony are planning for something we have not yet foreseen, we search for the Pieces of Eden, we know the queen has one of them, but not where she has hidden it." Abaines said. I furrowed my brow. "Pieces of Eden?" I asked. "They were bestowed upon us by the first civilization, we hunt to find them and bring the world back to what it once was." Abaines said. I nodded and he wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "Come, we have much to discuss." The man who brought me here said. I nodded and Abaines and I walked with him. "If she is to become a member of the order, she must be trained, taught, in our ways." The man said. Abaines nodded. "I understand." Abaines said. I burst awake back in the warehouse. "What is it?" I asked. "We couldn't keep you in any longer, two hours is fine, three's pushing it." Desmond said. "I was in for three hours, it was only a day worth of memory." I said. "Exactly, one day of memory is three hours of time in the Animus." Desmond said. "How long where you in the Animus for?" I asked. "Days at a time." He said. "Days?" I exclaimed. He nodded. "And that is dangerous, I started seeing things after just a few hours, it's called the Bleeding Effect, it's how the assassins learn their skills, but it's also how they go insane." Desmond said. "Insane?" I asked in growing horror. Desmond nodded. "I was labeled as Subject Seventeen, the prisoner that had my cell before me was Subject Sixteen, Abstergo kept him in the Animus for weeks, sometimes months, he eventually went mad and started painting symbols on walls of his cell." I cocked my head. "That doesn't sound too bad." I said. "He painted the symbols with his own blood." Desmond said. My eyes widened. "The Bleeding Effect caused him to see visions of the past, they caused him to lose his mind." He said. I swallowed hard and blinked back tears. I didn't know why I wanted to cry, but it was really sad. "Come on, let's go for a walk, stretch our legs." Desmond said with a smile. I nodded and we began to walk. As we walked, suddenly, a pair of Ancient Egyptian guards appeared at the end of the hall. "Desmond." I said, stepping behind him and gripping his shoulders in fear. "Yeah?" He said. Then, just as soon as they had appeared, the guards vanished. "I saw something." I said. "Are the visions lasting longer than thirty seconds?" Desmond asked. "No." I said. Desmond shook his head. "Then don't worry about them, they'll pass in time." He said. I nodded and he wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "Nothing will hurt you while I'm here." He said. I smiled and hugged him. Suddenly he stopped. "Hey guys, we're heading out, need anything?" He called back to Shaun and Rebecca. "Some food." Rebecca called back. "And maybe some reading material, I'm getting pretty bored reading nothing but history books." Shaun called. "Got it." Desmond called back. Then he opened the door to the parking lot and we headed over to the truck. He opened my door and lifted me up into the truck. He shut the door behind me and got in the other side. He smiled at me and stuck the keys into the ignition and started the engine. "My best friends, what am I gonna do?" Desmond said with a smirk. "You never told me their last names, or yours." I said. He grinned. "Miles, my name is Desmond Miles, the others are Rebecca Crane and Shaun Hastings." Desmond said. Miles, that's name the lab coat guy from Abstergo said. Subject Seventeen, Miles, the Animus. It all made sense now. Desmond Miles was a prisoner at Abstergo labeled Subject Seventeen and was forced to use the Animus. "You were at Abstergo before you became an Assassin." I said. He nodded. "Lucy got me out, something I had noticed about her and one of my Ancestors, Altaïr, was that they both were missing their right ring finger." Desmond said. "What does that mean?" I asked. "It was part of the initiation of the Assassin Order, they cut off your right ring finger so you could never get married, you could have kids, just not get married, it was a show of loyalty to the order." Desmond explained.
