2. Derrick

His hair was golden. It brushed against his thick lashes. He stared at me with bright, sky blue eyes- sky blue eyes that seemed strangely familiar. His perfect lips formed a breath-taking lopsided smile over a set of dazzling white teeth.

"Hey? Are you okay?"

I turned my stare away from the freckle between his smile and his right dimple.

"Yeah...Thanks."

"Here, let me help you up."

He held his out for me to take. I was all to eager to take him up on the offer, but, as I started to stand, a sharp pain shot through my left leg. I fell against him in the shock of the pain.

"Thanks."

"No problem."

"What the Hell!"

I turned to see Scott standing at our side, obviously furious. His lip was swollen, and there was dried blood at the corner of his mouth.

"Who is he?!"

"I.."

I just stared at him, unable to answer. I had no idea who the beautiful guy I was leaning against was; although his eyes were familiar and inviting, like the eyes of an old friend.

"I'm Derrick. Not that it's any of your business."

"Well, Derrick, Mary is my business."

"Yeah? Not any more," he said it simply, there wasn't even the trace of a lie in his voice.

Before I could comprehend that it was happening, I was lifted into Derrick's arms and carried through my front door. He sat me down on the couch and began to examine my ankle. I had momentarily forgotten about the pain in my ankle, but, as he touched the tender skin, I whimpered and pulled my leg away. He laughed at my childish reaction and walked into the kitchen. I was about to call him back when he returned with a bag of ice.

"Here, you just twisted it. This should numb it though."

"Thanks."

He flashed another heart melting crooked smile, "No problem."

"Why though?"

His smile vanished, "What?"

I hesitated, not wanting to say the wrong thing.

"Why did you attack Scott? Why did you even come over?"

"He was hurting you."

We just sat there. His crystal eyes never left mine. That is, they never left mine until the door opened.

Derrick was quickly pushed away as Justin entered the house.

"Out. Now," his enraged face was pointed at Derrick as he stood protectively in front of me.

"Calm down Justin. She needed help."

"And you just had to be the hero didn't you? Nothing's changed there," he sneered.
