Riding The Wave

I'm your typical Malibu Barbie as some people call me. I live my life travelling around, and basically surfing. However, after my mom passes away surfing becomes difficult for me, the typical summer drama comes up, and I begin to feel lost within myself. I feel like I won't be able to live through this summer, until I finally let Harry get to me...

9. Part 9

Every morning, just as routine, I would get up at four and sit outside on the beach since I had given up on surfing. I had to quit my job since I didn’t know how to surf anymore and had gotten a waitressing job thanks to Jay at my favorite bar and grill; Sally’s.

“Hey, are you okay?” Jay asked me one day when we were on break.

“I’ve never seen you so down. Its a few days into July and you haven’t attended a single on of Grant’s parties, surfed, or really talked to anyone since your mom died…”

“I talk to Harry.”

“Yeah, only Harry. Speaking of Harry, are you two dating or something?”

“No, why? You know I don’t do relationships.”

“I was just asking since you two are like inseparable.”

“I just…he doesn’t push me to talk about everything like everyone else tries to. I don’t feel the necessity to talk about my feelings in every conversation I have with someone.”

“So, you don’t want to talk about everything?”

“No, I don’t.”

“How else are you going to get over it?”

“I won’t.” I hopped off the stool and excused myself, not wanting to talk to Jay anymore. I went back to work, not wanting to think about my mom anymore.

Around four, all my friends, minus Jay of course since we were working, came in. They sat at the usual table which was my section today.

“HEY BETH!” Grant called as I walked up.

“Hey guys, welcome to Sally’s; can I get you a drink to start off with?” I asked as I handed them the menus. I went around the table and got their drink orders and walked back to the bar area.

“Hey, you alright?” I looked up and saw Harry. I started to smile and looked back to the drinks.

“Yeah…I guess so. I don’t really feel like talking about it.”

“That’s fine; are you feeling up to a walk after work?”

“That would be really nice.”

“Great; what time do you get off work? I can meet you here.”

“I get off at seven.”

“Alright…I’ll be here at seven.”

“See you at seven.” I whispered as he walked away. I bit my lip and smiled to myself. I finished getting the drinks, brought them to them, and took their orders. I brought them back and continued to wait on my tables. Every once and awhile though, I would catch Harry’s eye and smile. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw him. There was something about him that made me want to be better…like my mom made me want to be…
