Riding The Wave

I'm your typical Malibu Barbie as some people call me. I live my life travelling around, and basically surfing. However, after my mom passes away surfing becomes difficult for me, the typical summer drama comes up, and I begin to feel lost within myself. I feel like I won't be able to live through this summer, until I finally let Harry get to me...

4. Part 4

It wasn’t until eight that Mel and I finally got out of the ocean and showered. We were sitting on my floor in towels.

“Okay so Jake left the booze under my bed so I need to bring that and we still need to get dressed and ready…”

“You’re lucky you’re parents leave for the whole summer every year.” I giggled and smiled.

“Yeah, but after awhile it kind of sucks. All they do is refill out debit cards and leave us their credit cards.”

“I wish I lived you’re life…”

“No, you really don’t.” Mel rolled her eyes at me and I smirked. “We should get ready.”

“Yes, lets.” Mel started drying her hair as I picked out my outfit. I picked out a pair of jean shorts and a sleeveless peach colored top that popped next to my natural olive skin tone and bright blue eyes. I pulled out white sandals and white hoop earrings. After I was dressed, I did simple skin-tone make-up and let my loose black curls loose.

“Do I look alright?”

“Why do you always look so perfect? It gets me so pissed off sometimes. It’s like one of those ‘I never get a boyfriend because as soon as they see my best friend, they fall madly in love with her’ moments.”

“You’re so dramatic.”

“It’s the truth- Grant is a great example.”

“Grant and I grew up together…”

“Yeah but still.” I laughed and rolled my eyes as Mel and I dragged all the booze out to my cherry red Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. “And your car…wasn’t this custom made in this color just for you?”

“Your point?”

“Leave my presence. We honestly can’t be friends anymore.” I laughed as we climbed into the car.

“You love me too much. Who else are you going to mooch off of if you kick me to the curb?”

“I’ll steal Grant.”

“You’re ridiculous.” I said as I started up the car. I drove us the thirty seconds to Grant’s just so I didn’t have to carry the booze across the beach. We pulled up and people were all over the front, sides, and most likely the back and inside. Mel and I stepped out of the car and everyone cheered when they saw another round of booze had arrived. We brought it inside and sorted it all out in the kitchen by drinks.

“Look who finally showed up?” We turned and saw Grant standing in the doorway.

“It’s only nine…” I pointed out.

“Yeah, yeah; there are some new guys I want you to meet.” Mel and I followed Grant out back to where there were about five guys I hadn’t seen before…well, four.

“Mel, that’s the guy…”

“Damn, leave it to Grant to pick him up.” I giggled and shoved her.

“Beth, Mel, this is Niall, Louis, Zayn, Harry, and Liam.”

“Call me Bethany, please.” I said, shaking all their hands.

“Nice to meet you.” They all said back. I felt Harry’s eyes on me, making me blush slightly.

“This was the beach bum I was telling you about.” Grant said, putting his arm around me. “She’s my girl.”

“I’m not your girl, Grant.”

“You will be.” He kissed my cheek and I shoved him off me.

“Douche bag.”

“I love you.” He winked at me and blew me a kiss, causing me to flip him off.

“Go fuck yourself.”

“Wow…strong words.”

“Screw you.”

“Alright well, you let me know when and I’m sure I can make room for you. Now you kiddies have fun!”

“I will forever hate him.” I sighed, shaking my head as Grant walked away.

“He defiantly seems like a great guy.” Niall joked. I laughed and shook my head again.

“You have no idea…”

“I’m going to grab something to drink, want anything?” Mel asked me.

“Yeah, grab me a pina colada please.”

“Yes ma’am.” Mel said as she walked off. The boys started to disperse but Harry stayed put.

“Harry, right?” I asked.

“Yup, and you’re Bethany.”

“I am, yes. Thanks for actually calling me Bethany. Most people, thanks to Grant, call me Beth.”

“He seems like a character.”

“He is, but deep down he’s a great guy. We grew up together so…we’re practically siblings.”

“You guys dated for awhile, didn’t you?”

“How’d you know?”

“You can tell by how you two interact with each other. But let’s not get all psychological.” I giggled and ran my fingers through my hair.

“So, how long have you been here for?”

“We actually just got in.”

“Where from? I can pick up an accent but I’m not totally sure where the accent is from. I’ve been all over so all the accents got jumbled together.”

“British, actually. We all flew in from London.”

“I love London- such a beautiful city; although, I didn’t stay there long. I wasn’t able to surf so…it wasn’t a place for me.”

“You really do love to surf, don’t you?” I giggled and nodded.

“Yeah, it’s my life.”

“Here you go.” We both turned to Mel who handed me my drink. I took it awkwardly and we were all silent.”  “Okay…so uhm, I’ll leave you guys alone. Have fun, just not too much!” Harry’s jaw dropped and I blushed.

“Mel, get out.” Mel winked and waved her fingers at us as she walked away. “I’m so sorry about her.” I stammered, making Harry laugh.

“You have interesting friends, that’s for sure.”

“Yeah, that’s true…so, you want to go somewhere less…loud?”

“Yeah, that’d be nice. This is kind of giving me a headache.” I nodded and led him out back to the beach where there was a bonfire going. We sat down on the sand, and leaned our backs against a log. “Yeah this is much nicer.” I laughed and started drinking.

“Yeah, this is normally where I hang out during these parties.”

“How many are there?”

“There is a party once a week. This is how we do it in Malibu.”

“Wow…so I get to come to these all summer?”

“Are you leaving after the summer?”

“Yeah, we fly back to London. Our friend, Louis, his parents paid for us to get away for awhile.”

“That was nice of them!”

“Yeah, they’re great.” We fell into a silence as we heard shrieks of laughter, people talking, and music coming from inside.

“You defiantly live the live.” Harry said, breaking the silence.

“How so?”

“You live on the beach, you go to parties every weekend, you have a really cool job, where are your parents?”

“They have gone on business for the whole summer. They’re gone for months at a time all the time.”

“And you don’t have your parents’ around…that has to be the summer every teenager lives for.”

“Well, you’re living it too.”

“Yeah but we aren’t rolling in money like you are.” I looked down and shrugged. “I saw what you drove up in…don’t even try to deny it.”

“Yeah…I guess I sort of do live the life but it isn’t all fun and games.”

“How isn’t it?”

“People assume things. It may not be that big of a deal to you, but…it’s a pretty big deal when you’re me.”

“I believe it. I won’t deny it at all. I hate when people assume things about me too.”

“What could someone possibly assume about you?”

“A lot more than you think.” I shook my head and finished off my drink. We sat there talking for a little while longer before we both decided to go inside and dance and drink some more. It wasn’t until around three in the morning that Mel and I stumbled back home and passed out on my bed.
