Riding The Wave

I'm your typical Malibu Barbie as some people call me. I live my life travelling around, and basically surfing. However, after my mom passes away surfing becomes difficult for me, the typical summer drama comes up, and I begin to feel lost within myself. I feel like I won't be able to live through this summer, until I finally let Harry get to me...

24. Part 24

I was laying there just staring at my ceiling. I knew what was going to happen to me but I didn’t want to believe it. This was the third time and I knew my dad wouldn’t care if I fought it, I was going in no matter what. I knew at any given moment I would be transferred over and there was no stopping it.
I looked over at my phone and debated whether or not if I should call my dad. I knew at this point they had already had contact with my dad and I wasn’t sure if it was worth giving him the call. After a good five minutes of staring at my phone, I gave in and decided to call him.
“Hey dad…”
“How are you feeling darling?”
“I’m okay…how’s New York?”
“I’m in Romania; remember?”
“Oh yeah…well how is it?”
“Beautiful. So what do you need?”
“Dad…please don’t make me go.”
“Bethany, this is the third time this has happened.”
“The first time was an accident though.”
“Okay then second time. That’s more than enough times for me to say it’s okay.”
“What if I said Harry was the reason I was able to hold on this long? What if I agreed to one on one therapy instead of the ward?”

“There’s no way you can stop this from happening…” Crystal pointed out sadly.
“I’ll find a way…there’s no way that I can let her go in there! It’ll make her crazier and we all know that.” I said, trying to figure out some way to get her out of this situation.
“Yeah but we have no control over this. You’re dad made the decision already.” Grant added in.
“Are you trying to piss me off, Grant? Right now to be honest, all of you are pissing me off. The only one I really don’t mind having here is Harry.” I said angrily.
“What did we do?” Mel asked.
“Nothing; that’s why I’m so pissed. You all knew this was tearing her apart and you all left her. I watched you all leave her; all of you except Harry. So honestly, I don’t like any of you right now.” Everyone went quiet as Harry put his arm around me.
“We’re going to figure this out.” Harry said quietly as we just sat there, almost in tears.
“Jake?” We looked up and saw a nurse standing over us, looking severely pissed off.
“You’re sister will be ready to go home tomorrow. She can have two people spend the night but that’s it.”
“Wait…go home?” Harry asked in just about as much shock as me.
“Yes. She specifically asked for Harry and you to spend the night so if you don’t mind, the rest of you need to go home.”
“But I’m her best friend…” Mel said, sounding upset.
“You must not be a good enough friend for her to not want you here with her. Her room number is 314 so whenever you’re ready to go back, let one of the nurses know and we’ll direct you there.”
“Thank you.” I said, still dumbfounded as the nurse walked away.
“That was fucking rude.” Mel declared.
“Well it’s true…” Mac said slowly. “We haven’t been there for her when she needed us the most. We were there the first time, but this time we all left her…so it’s no wonder she doesn’t want to see any of us.”
“Mac, are you serious?” Mel demanded.
“Are you? When was the last time you were there when she was having a break down? Harry was the one there whenever she was having a break down, even if she was screaming and throwing shit. None of us were there for her.” Mel went quiet again and looked down.
“I guess we do all owe her an apology…” Crystal said.
“Yeah, we do. But she doesn’t want to see us.” Toby threw in.
“I feel like a douche bag.” Grant said slowly.
“Well you are; you hurt her a lot.” I said to him. “You’re a good friend of mine, Grant, but the way you treated my sister while dating her was shitty as fuck. And you haven’t been much better to her since you guys broke up.”
“Wow…thanks.” Grant said, glaring at me.
“Well you’re all supposed to be her friends are the five people here that know her the least. Let’s for example throw out the situation where she almost drowned and Liam and Harry were the one’s there to save her.”
“She almost drowned…?” Mel asked quietly.
“Yeah, she had a concussion and spent two whole weeks bedridden.” Harry said, half glaring at her.
“I didn’t know…” Mel said sadly.
“See, there’s how shitty of a friend you’ve been the past month, and it’s only halfway through July.”
“Jake, really?”
“Yeah, really Mel. I’m tired of all of you treating her like shit and watching her take it and me letting it happen. I’m not a fan of any of you right now. So if you’ll excuse Harry and I, we’re going to go make sure his girlfriend and my sister is okay.” I stood up with Harry next to me. Harry said bye to his friends and they slowly walked out to take a bus home most likely since everyone else had been nasty as hell towards them. We walked up to the front desk and asked to be led to my sisters’ room.

“Jake and Harry, miss.” I looked up as the nurse led them into my room. I half smiled as they walked into my room. After they were seated, the nurse closed the door and walked away.
“How you feeling, sis?” I asked first, breaking the ice.
“I’m alright. How are you two?”
“We’re worried.” Harry said quietly.
“Thank you two for being here for me though…”
“Everyone was outside in the waiting room.” Jake mentioned.
“Well I don’t care much for them.”
“I don’t either.” Jake said, shaking his head. “They’ve been nothing but rude and assholes towards you for the past month.”
“I know.” I said sadly.
“But anyway, you aren’t going into any ward.” Harry said, trying to look at the Brightside. I smiled, realizing that they had no idea I was the reason for that.
“I know.”
“Wait, you know?” Jake sounded very confused and Harry looked shocked.
“Yeah, I got dad to call and take it all back.”
“How did you do that? You know dad is so stubborn in his decisions!”
“Yeah, I promised him I would start one on one therapy in exchange for not making me go so…”
“Wow…I’m shocked.” Jake said, leaning back in his chair.
“Yeah, but on the Brightside I’m coming home tomorrow so it’s all going to be okay.”
“Good.” Jake said as we fell back into an awkward silence; all of us knowing it was between Harry and I. “I need to run to the bathroom; I’ll be right back.” Jake said quickly before walking out. After the door clicked closed I immediately started crying.
“Babe, what’s wrong?”
“I’m sorry for everything I said…I didn’t mean it I just…I was scared…”
“Of what?”
“Of losing you, so I pushed you away instead.” Harry stood up and came up to the bed and laid down next to me.
“You could never push me away; I’m always going to come back to you.” I whimpered a little bit before closing my eyes and taking a deep breath.
“I love you, Harry.”
“I love you too, Bethany.”
