Riding The Wave

I'm your typical Malibu Barbie as some people call me. I live my life travelling around, and basically surfing. However, after my mom passes away surfing becomes difficult for me, the typical summer drama comes up, and I begin to feel lost within myself. I feel like I won't be able to live through this summer, until I finally let Harry get to me...

23. Part 23

“Harry?” I said in a panicked tone when he finally picked up the phone. “No, everything isn’t okay…I’m in an ambulance…no for Bethany…yeah…ask Grant to take you up- here, he knows where it is…no, he’s been there before…yeah…for Bethany…” I hung up the phone and looked back at Bethany’s motionless body as all but the driver worked on reviving her, but no luck. I was getting scared and the tears started rolling down my cheeks again.

Why Bethany…why?

“Has she ever done something like this before?” I snapped back to reality and saw one of the girls talking to me.

“This would be the third time.”

“What triggered the first few times?”

“The first time she was at a party and experimented with pills and alcohol, the other time…it was because she watched her cousin shoot himself.” They nodded, wrote it down, and continued working on her. I was getting beyond scared thanks to her past with things like this.

When we got to the hospital, she was rushed away from me and I was told to wait in the waiting room for a doctor to call me back. Not minutes later, Grant, Mel, Tyler, Mac, Jay, Toby, Crystal, Louis, Harry, Zayn, Liam, and Niall running in.

“Guys!” I called, getting their attention. They rushed over to me and surrounded me.

“How is she?” Crystal pestered first.

“I don’t know…we just got here, but she’s still out.” This made everyone go silent. I watched as Harry sunk to the floor, putting his face in his hands. “Hey, Harry…” He looked up at me, his eyes red. “It isn’t your fault dude…she’s done this before, and she’s always been like this.”

“That doesn’t make me feel any better…”

“At least know that you probably pushed this off longer because you spent every moment with her.”

“It wasn’t easy…”

“I never said it was…but you tried and pushed this off a hell of a lot longer than any of us could have.”

“How do you know?”

“Because none of us know why she does it…none of us but Jake…” Crystal said quietly.

“Sand I refuse to tell them because it’s her story to tell, not mine. I wasn’t there, I can’t tell it.” Harry nodded and I noticed how the tears started running down his cheeks. “Hey, listen…she’ll wake up…she always does.” I choked on my words, hoping he didn’t notice.

“And what if this time is different?” This caught me off guard and made my eyes start welling up again with tears.

“We can always hope, can’t we?”

We waited in the waiting room for what felt like days before we finally saw the doctor that took on Bethany and her situation.

“Will she be okay?!” Jay asked first.

“Will she make it?” Crystal practically shouted.

“How is she, doc?” Toby asked.

“She’s in recovery right now…we think she’ll make it but to be safe we’re placing her in a psychiatric ward for her safety.”

“Excuse me…doesn’t her legal guardian have a say in this?”

“No…we spoke to her father already; he gave us permission.” My mouth dropped and I immediately pulled my phone out, furious with my dad.

“WHAT THE HELL DAD?!...NO I HAD CONTROL OF THE SITUATION…NO…THIS IS UNFAIR…BETHANY DOESN’T NEED THAT…NO…FUCK YOU!” I hung up on my dad and turned back to the group who was all staring at me.

“That went well…” Niall said, trying to lighten the mood.

“She isn’t going in.” I mumbled, determined to change everything about this. There was no way I was letting Bethany in some ward. My dad didn’t even know the whole situation so there was no way I was letting him take control of this. There was no way.
