Riding The Wave

I'm your typical Malibu Barbie as some people call me. I live my life travelling around, and basically surfing. However, after my mom passes away surfing becomes difficult for me, the typical summer drama comes up, and I begin to feel lost within myself. I feel like I won't be able to live through this summer, until I finally let Harry get to me...

2. Part 2

Around noon, we finally pulled ourselves out of the water. It was the first week of summer for me before my junior year in high school and Jake just graduated.

“Alright, I need to get ready for work…I’ll see yah later, squirt.”

“Bye bubby!” I called as he walked away. I sighed and fell onto a towel that I had laid out.

“And surprise, surprise; look where I found you.” I looked up and saw Mel looking down at me.

“Hey Mel.” I smiled as Mel put a towel down next to me and sprawled out.

“How long have you been up today?”

“I’ve been up since about four.”

“You’re…insane. How can you handle that?”

“The morning surf is totally worth it. And it’s when all the stupid tourists are asleep so I don’t need to deal with all the surf lessons going on.”

“Speaking of surf lessons…don’t you have to teach some of those today?” I groaned into my towel and let my hair down.

“Yeah, at six. I have a kids group to teach for an hour.”

“After that, we’re going to Grant’s bonfire right down the beach, right?”

“Hell yeah! Those are what my summers are about.”

“Yeah…that and surfing. You really need a boyfriend.” I laughed and looked over at Mel.

“Yeah, no. I don’t do the whole dating thing. I’m married to surfing.”

“You’re so fucked up. You need an actual life.”

“Surfing is my life.” I pointed out.

“I mean a normal teenage girl life; you know…one where you don’t cry all through winter because you can’t surf!”

“Hey…you don’t get it.”

“And I probably never will.” I rolled my eyes and turned over onto my back so I could start tanning my front side.

“Dude, get up! We’re in Malibu!” Niall said, shaking me.

“Does it really matter where we are?” I groaned.

“Lou’s parents rent us out a beach house for the summer; no parents, no rules…we can do whatever we want and you’re sitting in bed?!”

“Yeah…we can party at night.”

“No…I think we need to start now. There are girls crawling over this beach.”

“LET’S GO!” I groaned as Niall pulled me from the bed. “Be ready in ten minutes.” I got myself off the floor and pulled on khaki shorts, a plain white t-shirt, and a blue plaid shirt with some sandals before I made my way downstairs where the other’s were.

“Look who’s finally ready!” Liam said happily.

“Let’s go!” Niall said, jumping up and down like a little kid. I rolled my eyes and couldn’t help but smile as we made our way outside.

Niall wasn’t when he said there were people everywhere. There were parents chasing after kids, girls tanning, people surfing, guys playing catch; this was paradise.

“I’m going to go for a swim.” Louis said, running off with Zayn. I nodded as I saw Niall and Liam walk off, kicking a soccer ball back and forth. I wasn’t feeling either of what they were doing so I started walking the boardwalk instead.

“Do you wanna grab something to eat before work?” I asked Mel.

“I thought you’d never ask.” I laughed as we got up. I pulled shorts on over my bikini bottom, threw my stuff onto my back deck, and started making my way to the boardwalk with Mel. “What are we feeling today…greasy or really greasy?” I giggled as we walked up to our favorite bar and grill.

“Good afternoon girls.”

“Afternoon Jay.” I said, smiling.

“The usual table and the usual orders?”

“You know us so well.” He laughed as we sat down.

“I know; I’ll be right out with your stuff.” We nodded as he walked away.

“Alright, you’re strawberry banana smoothes and your burgers with the works…”

“What; did you have it waiting for us?” Mel asked as Jay set it down. He started laughing and shook his head.

“Sort of- we saw you walking this way so I called the order back.”

“You’re a doll.” I said, pinching his cheeks.

“Yeah, yeah; enjoy.” We waved slightly as he walked off. We started eating when I saw someone walking on the board walk I’ve never seen around here before. He wasn’t like one of those local vacationers and he defiantly didn’t live around here.

“Hey Mel…”

“Who’s he?” Mel looked up and at the boy I was looking at. He had chocolate brown curls blowing in the wind, khaki shorts, a white t-shirt, and a blue plain shirt over top.

“I don’t know but he’s banging…”

“If you say so.”

“You saw him, so you have first dibs.”

“You’re ridiculous.” I shook my head as Mel laughed.

“Hey…Malibu beach is filled with hot guys. I can sacrifice one.”

“You really are ridiculous.” I shook my head again as Mel continued to laugh.

“Yeah, I know; hey, it’s almost six. You should probably get to work.” I groaned and laid some cash on the table and Mel dished out her half.

“I’ll see you after work; my place?”

“Yeah…this year with be the year I win Grant over.” Mel winked at me as I started shaking my head.

“Again, for the third time…you’re ridiculous.” Mel smiled and laughed as I walked out to get ready for work.
