Riding The Wave

I'm your typical Malibu Barbie as some people call me. I live my life travelling around, and basically surfing. However, after my mom passes away surfing becomes difficult for me, the typical summer drama comes up, and I begin to feel lost within myself. I feel like I won't be able to live through this summer, until I finally let Harry get to me...

18. Part 18

After Mel got us back to Malibu and dropped me off, I went right to my bedroom to change into one of my bathing suits. I ran to the garage, grabbed my board, and went running out into the water. It was around dinner time so there weren’t a lot of people outside. I paddled out to the surf and waited. I knew I denied it to Mel, but no matter what, I would always love surfing. The problem was…without my mom…I couldn’t do it anymore.

I watched her float out in the water on her board. She may be mad at me but I still cared. I sat down on the sand with Liam next to me as we watched Bethany float there.

“Do you think she’ll do it?”

“I don’t know; I guess we’ll find out.” I said slowly. Liam nodded and we watched as she spun herself around. She started paddling, stood up and started riding the wave; but within seconds she was plummeting into the water.

Liam and I waited for her to come up, but she never did. I was getting worried and quickly stripped off my shirt with Liam close behind. We both dove into the water and swam out to where we thought Bethany was. We found her board and the string was under the water. I pushed myself under and saw Bethany floating there, her mouth open, and her eyes closed; she was unconscious.

I pushed myself down further and reached for her body. I grabbed her and pulled her up with me, struggling to stay awake myself. I started seeing the light and got the strength to go just a little further so I could get Bethany out of the water.

“I got her other side!” I heard Liam shout. I was gasping for breath and saw a giant group on the beach waiting to see what was going to happen. Liam and I pushed her to shore on her board. When we got her to shore, I hovered over her, looking at her motionless body.

“Please be alive…” I whispered, putting my mouth to hers to give her CPR.

I have been giving her CPR for about ten minutes, and still nothing. I was losing hope and getting to the point where I couldn’t do this anymore.

“Harry…it’s over…” Louis whispered from next to me. At this point, there was a giant crowd of people who lived on the beach, was on the board walk, all of Bethany’s who have been contacted, and everyone who saw her go down from their windows.

“I can’t just let her go like this…” I whispered as I finally let her go. As soon as I turned away, I heard her coughing. I spun around to look at her and water was coming up so I quickly sat her up with Niall so she wouldn’t swallow the water again.

“Harry…” She mumbled.

“Yes baby?”

“Thank you…” She whispered before falling into my arms. I hugged her tightly as everyone started clapping.

“Don’t ever go out there alone again, understand?”

“Yes Harry…” She said breathlessly.

“You gave Liam and I a heart attack.”

“How did you guys know?”

“We were watching you…” Liam said. She nodded and nuzzled her face back into my chest.

“I love you.” I whispered into her ear.

“I love you.” She whispered back before falling asleep in my arms. I picked her up bridal style and carried her to her house through the crowd. I brought her up to her room, changed her into dry clothes, and tucked her in. There was no way I could leave her so I crawled up in bed with her and fell asleep next to her with a smile on my face and my arms around her.
