Just Like Magic!

What happens when your deepest, most craziest dream comes true? It's just like magic!

5. The Meeting

Lily and I walked out of Dumbledore's office. He had organized for us to have our own feast in his office shortly after James and Sirius had left. We walked back to the Gryffindor Tower. Neither of us had gone to the feast or met a prefect on the way, so Dumbledore told us the password before we left.

"Caput Draconis" I said. The fat lady's portrait swung open to reveal the Gryffindor Common Room. Several faces turned to look at us. I immediately recognized Molly Prewett, Arthur Weasley, James, Sirius, and Remus of course, Peter Pettigrew (ugh!), Alice, and Frank Longbottom.

"Evans! Over here!" James called and they walked over to him.

"What do you want, Potter," she said in an annoyed, rude tone.

"I'd like to talk to your friend," he replied in a very mature, superior tone. Lily just glared at him. He turned his chair to face me. "What's your name?"

"Ella," I replied. "You can call me El."

"So, El, how did you get here? I mean you are just joining and it's our third year." He asked, "Aren't you going to be behind?"

"I honestly have no idea how I got here, but I don't think I'll have any problems catching up."

"And you need a place to live? Don't you have a family?"

"I do have a family. I told you I don't know how I got here. Surely Dumbledore has his reasons."

"And how old are you?" He asked.

"I'm 13. Today is my birthday." I replied happily.

"Oh my gosh! Happy birthday!" Lily yelled, suddenly forgetting her hatred to James, and hugged me.

As the night went on, the common room slowly cleared out as students from various years went to bed. At last, it was just Lily, James, Sirius, Remus, Peter, and I. (I made a mental note to break up the mauders friendship with Peter.) We were still celebrating my birthday and the start of term. Finally, we all went to bed.

The next morning at breakfast, we got our schedules. Lily and I had all of the same classes. We had divination, potions, history of magic, defense against the dark arts, and a few other classes with James, Sirius, and Remus. The day started with double potions (Lily's best subject) and DADA (James's best subject). I struggled a bit in potions, but caught on quickly. DADA was the best though. I was the first one to successfully block the teacher's stunning curse. That afternoon we had charms, care of magical creatures, and transfiguration. I was one of the best at those, too.

Finally, the day of meeting James's parents approached. James, Sirius, and I were missing double divination today. The three of us walked up to Dumbledore's office and said "Fizzing Whizbees". The stone gargoyle moved and we stepped inside. I knocked on the door to the office. When we stepped inside, we saw 2 occupied chairs and 3 empty chairs in between the occupied ones. I sat next to James, who sat next to Sirius. On the other side of me was a lady I assumed to be Mrs. Potter. On the other side of Sirius was a man who looked a lot like James, and he was clearly Mr. Potter.

"Mr. Potter, I have been speaking to your parents," Dumbledore told James, "And they said they would be more than willing to adopt Miss Jones if it's all right with you."

"Er - I guess so." he replied.

"Now Miss Jones, you have some options. First, would you like to change your surname to Potter of remain Miss Jones."

"I - er - I want to change my name to Ella Potter." I said finally.

"Mr. Black, you are here merely because you are practically part of the Potter family," Dumbledore said to Sirius who was obviously about to ask. "James, Sirius, you are welcome to show Ella around the castle, accompanied by your parents, for the rest of the day."

We all left, led by James, who was closely followed by Sirius, who was followed by me. I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up to see Mrs. Potter smiling at me. Mr. Potter was by her side. I knew this was going to be a good day.
