Separated at birth

Harry looked at me with intensity in his eyes, “I don’t know why you’re here, or who you are. I don’t know if you’re telling me the truth, or if it’s a pack of lies. But I do know for the first time in my life, I feel complete. I feel like I’ve finally found you Marty, this is crazy and I know it is. But it’s true. You could be my twin like you say, or you could be another person, but whatever it is I don’t feel empty anymore.”

28. Chapter 27

A missing poster of ‘Marty Sheen’ stamped on one of the trees. Any minute and they would find me and take me back. This is all going too far, they don’t need to find me anymore, I’m home.

“You look like you’ve just seen a ghost?” Harry laughed.

I ripped the poster off the tree and shoved it back into my pocket. God knows what he would say about this.

“No, just looking” I shrugged.

His arm hung loosely over my shoulder as we walked back to his, or as he called it home. Ever since our conversation in the garden a couple of days ago, he hadn’t left my side. He even insisted I slept in his room again. But that meant no more Liam, no more make out sessions.

Liam, he hasn’t spoken to me or even looked in my direction since that night. I know he regrets it. He’s ‘disobeying’ Harry or whatever. But I don’t regret it, not one bit. I’ve never felt like that before, this may be too forward but I would have given myself to him right then. If only Harry wouldn’t have interrupted us. Liam would then have regretted it even more, so I suppose it worked out for the best. I wish he talked to me, I wish he would kiss me again.

Does that make me desperate? I don’t know.

I do wonder if Liam feels for me the way I feel for him. I’ve let myself like him, and there’s no going back now.

He sat down at the kitchen table eating a ham sandwich. His eyes remained down, even when I walked in.

“Can we talk?” I whispered.

He looked up to me and then over to Harry who was busy opening a packet of batteries.

“Later” he whispered back. “My room at 12,” he then spoke to Harry. “Do you need a hand?”

Harry laughed “this shouldn’t be this difficult.”

Liam rolled his eyes “give it to me, let me try.”

Harry’s POV

I am trying so hard to keep it together, let her know that I’m not afraid. I mean how pathetic right? She probably thinks I’m being too pushy now and I can’t blame her. But I feel so guilty, I feel like I need to make up for everything I have done. Yes there may be no proof as she keeps reminding me, but I don’t need proof anymore. I’ve always felt it inside me that she was a part of me as crazy as that sounds. Now I’m no longer afraid to admit it to her.

Liam and I watched some TV in the afternoon. If he could he’d spend his life in front of that thing.

“What do you want to watch now?” he asked.

I shrugged “whatever, where’s Marty?”

“You need to give her a break,” he looked at me wearily.

“You think?”

He nodded “because if you decide to go off on one again it would kill her.”

I sighed “I don’t know what to do Liam.”

“You’re doing fine, just be careful she has feelings remember that.”

“I know? Why do you think I’m trying so hard?” I could feel myself getting annoyed.

He left it knowing he would get nowhere.

“Harry I need to talk to you” Hayley frowned.

“What’s up?”

“I’m going home today, and I just need to tell you something, or well show you.”

She sat down beside me and handed me a white envelope.

“What’s this?” I asked.

“A DNA test, I know you weren’t sure about doing one so I did. Please don’t be mad.”

“You what?”

“You want to know for sure right?”

I nodded.

“So now’s your chance” she smiled. “I’ll leave you alone. Hopefully I’ll see you soon.”

I kissed her on the lips taking her by surprise, “thank you.”

She gasped “er that’s okay.”

“I’ll see you soon” I whispered.

She nodded and stood up almost running outside the door. I tore open the envelope. My hands trembled as I read the results.

“Holy shit”

Marty’s POV

Liam was the only person in the garden. I went and sat down next to him. He sighed and shuffled close to me.

“Why won’t you talk to me?” I frowned.

His hand caressed my leg, “this is what I didn’t want. To lead you on and act like this, I can’t be with you Marty.”

“Because Harry and I have been best friend’s for years that means something.”

“And I mean nothing?” I asked.

“You mean everything,” he frowned.

His finger skimmed my lip “I want to kiss these.”

I kissed his finger making him smile.

“Marty” Harry shouted.

I let go of Liam’s hand and looked over at the door.

“Marty” he called again.

“I’m here” I shouted.

He ran out into the garden, a smile plastered on his face.

“I knew it,” was all he said.

“Care to share what the hell you’re on about?” Liam asked.

Harry passed Liam a white piece of paper. Liam looked at him cautiously before staring down at the paper. His expression changed and his eyes widened as he read whatever was written on it. A smile played at his lips as he stood up and hugged Harry.

“I’m happy for you bro. I’ll give you both a minute.”

He looked at me before going back inside. Harry sat me down and dropped to his knees.

“I’m sorry. I will never be able to apologise enough for the way I treated you. I should have gone with my gut.”

“Harry what?”

He showed me the piece of paper.

“You mean, you know?”

He nodded “I’ve always known now it’s official.”

I jumped in his arms, this is where I belonged.
