Separated at birth

Harry looked at me with intensity in his eyes, “I don’t know why you’re here, or who you are. I don’t know if you’re telling me the truth, or if it’s a pack of lies. But I do know for the first time in my life, I feel complete. I feel like I’ve finally found you Marty, this is crazy and I know it is. But it’s true. You could be my twin like you say, or you could be another person, but whatever it is I don’t feel empty anymore.”

11. Chapter 10

Marty’s POV

I awoke in my room my body freezing. I got up and shut the window, before putting on my jeans and top. God I look such a mess, I haven’t changed my clothes in well over 3 days could be longer. This will be a great way to meet my family. Why are you acting like they will care about you? My conscious sniggered.

“Because they just have to” I whispered.

Besides they are all I have left. They are the only hope I have, the only thing that has to mean something to me. Because without that inch of hope that remains inside of me. I am nothing, just a figure through time that is unimportant, unnoticed, unloved.

The man downstairs kept his eyes on me as I sat down and ate a piece of toast. Minutes later he sat down next to me and placed a glass of water in front of me.

“Thanks” I said awkwardly.

“Are you here alone?” he asked.

I shuffled in my seat edging away from him.

“No, my boyfriend is here” I lied.

“Where is he?” he looked around.

“He popped out, I don’t recall it being any of your business” I said agitated.

“Just curious” he smirked.

“I should get going, I need to meet him” I stood up.

He pulled me close to him bringing my ear to his lips.

“Do you know what I think?”

I gulped, my body tensed.

“I think you don’t have a boyfriend, and I think that you’re here all alone.”

I pulled away from him “l-leave me alone” I stuttered.

“I’ll see you around” he winked at me making me cringe.

“I’m leaving today” I shrugged.

“Oh then that means we don’t have much time left. My room number is 201.”

This guy is a creep.

“You have the wrong girl” I said coldly, and with that walked away from him.

I quickly grabbed my phone and card from my room and shoved it in my jean pockets. No way was I spending another night here.

“Thank you for letting me stay here” I smiled at the man behind the desk.

“It was my pleasure. Did you have a nice stay?”

I thought over my time at this motel. The damp floor in my room, the rough sheets that haven’t been changed, the pervert who hit on me this morning. Overall the stay had been horrible and it wasn’t something I would ever like to repeat.

However I simply smiled and nodded.

There were 3 hospitals that remained in Holmes Chapel. I could have been born in any of them. Today would be spent travelling from hospital to hospital.

“Hi” I smiled at the nurse.

“Hello can I help you? Are you hurt?”

I shook my head “nothing like that, I have a question.”

“Okay shoot.”

“My name is Marty Sheen and I was adopted. I recently found out I was born in Holmes Chapel. So I was really wondering if I was born here.”

Her eyebrows creased “Is this really the path you want to go down?”

I nodded “I need to know who I am.”

“What about your adopted parents, what do they think?”

“They’re dead” I said bluntly.

She frowned “I’m sorry.”

“Why? You didn’t know them, you don’t care. But I suppose to show how sorry you are, you can tell me some answers.”

She sighed and typed my name into her computer, after a few minutes she got up and spoke to one of the nurses.

“Sorry honey you weren’t born here.”

“Do you know anything about me? My real name, that’s all I ask.”

“I’m sorry” she said again.

But she wasn’t sorry, I knew that and so did she. She didn’t want to help me. She probably knew the answers I was looking for. Yet she kept them from me, for what reason I don’t know.

“Okay” I nodded and walked out of the hospital

The next hospital was even worse, and quite frankly I’m glad I wasn’t born there. Now I was headed to the last hospital, I can’t even imagine what I would say if they tell me I wasn’t born there. This would be the hardest to get into. They have a charity event today. One Direction will be there, I think you actually have to pay to get in. I personally think it’s stupid because what if someone was really hurt, would they have to pay?

The place was crowded with people, lots and lots of fan girls. How was I supposed to get past them? I walked round the whole hospital finding an entrance that didn’t contain a security guard. One of the doors was open. I took this as my opportunity and entered it. I ran up the stairs through the double doors, meaning I was now in the main part of the hospital.

“You’re not supposed to be in here” a stern woman’s voice said.

“I need help” I whispered.

She turned me around and studied me.

“You seem fine to me. I’ve had many girls do this today, what makes you different to think you can fool me?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I need to speak to a nurse or something.”

“Sure you do” she giggled.

“Yes I do” I half shouted. “Now out of respect get out of my way” I ordered pushing past her.

I was too fast for her to grab me. I ran around searching for that blue uniform. A young man was standing by the reception desk holding a clipboard. He saw me running towards him and tilted his head.

“Get this girl out of here” the woman shouted to him.

“Hold on” he held up his hands.

“How can I help you love?”

“I need to talk to someone who works here.”

“She’s lying” the woman shrieked.

“I can take it from here” the man glared at her before his eyes landed back on me.

“You can talk to me, what’s up?”

“I want to know if I was born here. You see I was adopted and I recently found out I was born in Holmes Chapel.”

He looked at me wearily.

“Let me look in the system, what’s your name?”

“My name is Marty Sheen, but I don’t know if that will be on my birth certificate.”

He nodded, his fingers thumped on the keys to the keyboard.

“Marty Sheen is it?”

I nodded.

“I’m sorry you weren’t born here.”

“But that has to be a lie?”

“Like I said I’m sorry, but it was nice to meet you.”

He’s lying the stupid son of a bitch.

“Okay” I smiled.

He nodded and got up from the chair and walked down the hallway. I looked in front of me at the file cabinets. This must be the patients files, it must be. Nobody was around at this time, screams were heard from outside. One Direction must be here, this is my only chance.

I jumped over the desk and opened one of the cabinets. These were all labelled R, it must be last names. I looked for S, which had its own cabinet for. Sookub, what kind of second name is that? I laughed to myself. I then found my second name Sheen. Marty Sheen, my face lit up. I grabbed the file and held it close to me.

“Hey what are you doing” the woman shrieked.

My body went into power mode. I jumped back over the desk and ran through the hospital with her right behind me. I turned a few corners to try and lose her. But she was fast, too fast. Fortunately I was faster. I ran past through many emotional fans knocking into a few of them.

“Watch it” one of them shouted.

“What is she doing, she can’t go over there” one of them moaned.

“She’s going to get in trouble, maybe we should do it” others said.

I had no idea what they were talking about. Before I had a chance to look up I bumped full pelt into someone knocking him into the tree. Harry Styles was standing before me grabbing his waist looking like he’s just seen a ghost.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t see you” I frowned.

He creased his eyebrows, looking at me closely. “Do I know you?”

“No I don’t think so, look I need to go” the woman would be here any minute. I need to look at this file. I turned away from him

He grabbed hold of my arm. My body tingled at his touch. A gasp came from my lips as I looked at him. He tilted his head staring back at me, for a long moment no words were shared. I suddenly realised I was being chased, I shook my head.

“Please, I need to go” I pleaded.

He nodded and unwillingly let go of me letting me run off. I hid behind a tree and sat down in the soil, I don’t know how much longer I have. I could hear the woman shouting, asking people where I was.

I looked through the file, my real name. That’s all I need to know, that’s all the information I need. The first page had all the information I needed to know.

Marty Sheen – adopted.
Born on the 1st February 1996 3.05am.
Parents Anne Cox and Unknown.
Adopted parents Hector and Jessica Sheen.
Sibling – Twin Brother Harry Cox

The woman grabbed me and dragged me back to the hospital. I couldn’t breathe I had a twin brother? Was he given away like me? What if he is out there, just like me looking for our parents?
