2. The Idea

"So, I was thinking," my best friend, Poppy, said that night. "Since summer just started like a week ago, and this is our last summer before senior year, we should make the best of it, you know?" she asked. She flopped on my bed and picked up a copy of  Seventeen Magazine.

"Yeah. What were you thinking of?" I rolled on my back, studying the ceiling. I also thought about my situation with Ethan. I liked him, and he likes me. That's all I know. And that bummed me.

"While I was shopping the other day, I came across this brochure for a co-ed teenage summer camp called 'Camp Teen'. I checked out their website, and it seems pretty cool," Poppy said. She flipped her long blonde hair over her shoulder, revealing her freckle covered shoulders.

"What do you do there?" I asked.

"They have many stuff. There are a lot of different programs you can enroll in, but the most popular one is the youth program. They pair you up with a partner. They have a boy/girl system going. They make you stay in the same cabin with them. They said that if you can behave with someone in a cabin in the woods, you can anywhere," Poppy answered.

I pulled my knees up to my chest and sighed. "You really want to do this?"

"Yes! Please?" Poppy began jumping around like a little girl.

"Okay," I sighed. "But, is your mom on board?"

"Duh, who do you think showed me the brochure?" Poppy rolled her eyes.

"Okay, now the hard part is my mom."

My mom had always been protective of me since my dad left when I was eleven. I never saw him since.

"Mom?" I asked, sitting down next to her on the couch.

"What's up honey?" she said.

"So, you know when you told me a couple of weeks ago you wanted me to get out and socialize more?" I said, biting my lip.

"Of course."

"Well, I have a solution," I told her.

"What is it?"

"I want to go to summer camp," I said.
