Run Away from Mary [Story Abandoned]

Nate, Lauren's wonderful, caring fiancé has been falsely accused of murder. What do they do about it? They run. They go back to their quiet little hometown in Indiana. But it's not safe to return to their homes. After drasticly changing their appearences, Nate leads Lauren to a little abandoned Quaker church. But when they arrive its not the police they should be worried about. It's Mary.

1. Nate's News

"Where is he?" Angie grumbled. "Maybe something happened?" Marry inquired with her usual innocent happiness."He should be here soon." Lauren said hopefully, trying to convince Angie to stay. She new it would take a little longer for Marry to leave, but she didn't want to push her luck. The three of them were waiting for Nate, Lauren's new fiancé.

Her friends didn't know about their relationship status with Nate was yet, so she gathered them here to tell them. They had expected Nate to arrive hours ago.  Finally, about thirty minutes later, Nate walked into the metal and glass doors of Subway on the corner in the center of their one-stoplight hometown of Raindale. "Hey girls, I'm sorry," he said as he leaned over towards Lauren and stole a quick kiss.

"So babe, I need to tell you something extremely important. You can't even tell them," Nate said to Lauren, still leaning over and his warm breath tickled her ear as he whispered to her closely. He pecked her cheek and moved away, gaining noting but  suspicious looks from Angie and Mary. Now he would tell her friends about the engagement. "Angie, Mary, Lauren and I have something that we have to tell both of you," Nate started off. Angie and Mary both looked at each other, then at Lauren who sat nervously at the table across from her them, her face flushed red. What is it this time?  Angie thought almost bitterly as she sipped her grape soda from the bottle.

"Well," Nate said, " it shouldn't really be a shock, but..", he paused and smiled at Lauren for a second. "Lauren and I are getting married soon." Angie and Mary were wide-eyed with shock. Why didn't they tell them sooner!? "Angie, I've chosen you and Mary to be my bridesmaids," Lauren said shyly, her face still flushed, but full of joy. Angie smiled. "Aww is this the part when you both get kissy-faced?" She teased, putting aside all bitterness.

Lauren's face flushed again and she opened her mouth to say something but Nate interfered. "Of course." He said smoothly with a smile and looked at Lauren with soft eyes. Lauren's blush reddened more. Marry giggled. "I think it's cute."

"Well, since we've got the news now, I'm going home. My chores are screaming my name. I can hear it from here. I think they use telepathy." She chucked and rose from her seat. "The Italian sub was good enough without you here, Nate." She said in a friendly, sarcastic tone and turned to Lauren and Mary. "Bye guys. See you later. And Lauren, I'd better be invited to help pick out your dress." She said with a smile before striding out  to the parking lot and driving away in her white, 2013 model Dodge Dart.

Mary wood from her seat and stretched. "I guess I'll leave you two love birds to yourselves too." She smiled shyly. "I have to go take care of my dog, Niki. I need to take her outside. The poor girl probably has the floor wet with pee by now." Lauren crinkled her nose at Marry's details. "Eww, Marry." Marry giggled. "Sorry. Too much info?" She asked, already knowing the answer.

A few minutes later, it was just Lauren and Nate. The rest of Subway was bare and the employees's had gone in the back room to relax, since the place was mostly empty and they were on the brink of leaving themselves.

"Now I can tell you what's so important." Nate said quietly so no one else could hear him. "I was accused of this little girl's death, and now I'm on the run. The cops don't know my full name, but we need to change our appearances." Nate took off his glasses and put in some contact lenses he pulled from his pocket in  a white case, changing his eye color instantly from blue-grey to bright green. He handed Lauren a contact container and she hesitantly did the same, changing her eye color from deep brown to ocean blue.

"Lauren, you don't have to come with me." He said softly. "It may be dangerous and your not involved." he paused for a second. "Yet.. and hopefully they won't involve you, but if they find out my name.."

"I'm going, Nate." She looked at him defiantly. "I know you. You've known my answer from the start."  She looked him in the eye. "I'm going." He smiled a saddened smile at her. "I knew there was no changing your pretty little stubborn mind."

"Now what?" Lauren wondered they'd do. Between panicking and hiding they'd have their work cut out for them. "Now," He mumbled, "We'll dye our hair and find a place to hide. But where..?" He finished, sounding somewhat lost.
