*Disclaimer: The boys are not human... not in this story at least.

4. Trustworthy?

Everything after that was a blur. I remember running outside and Niall stopping me as I got to my car. "I can't talk right now. Just let me go." I said. He nodded as I opened my car door and I looked at him one last time. I could see it in his eyes that he was hurt, but it was for the best.

I got in my car, turned on the headlights and drove away. I parked my car in the driveway of my grandfather's house and entered the door. "Back so soon?" he asked me as I threw the keys into the bowl. "There wasn't anything good at the mall." I told him, then headed upstairs to my room.

Niall had told me a big secret and I wasn't sure whether I should tell my friends or not. I decided not to tell them. Even I wasn't sure if what he was telling me was the truth. He sounded believable, but I still considered him to be a little crazy. Even all this vampire business has made me crazy as well.

During dinner with my grandfather, I brought up the subject about vampires. "So, now you're interested huh?" he asked with a smile on his face as I nodded. "What would you like to know?"

"Well, I was just wondering how vampires walk in the sunlight? Do they wear anything?" I asked him.

"They wear either rings, necklaces, or bracelets made with a certain stone to keep them from burning." he said.

"Are there any vampires that you know of? I mean, personally?"

"I did go to school with a group of boys back in the old days." he said, getting up and walking to the bookshelf to find his yearbook. He pulled out from the bookshelf and handed it to me. I quickly flipped through the pages to get to a class photo of everyone. Two names stood out to me: Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.

"Do you know these two?" I asked, pointing at the pictures.

"Him, I know. He was one of my good friends." He pointed towards Louis' photo. I looked at his photo again, especially Niall's. "How old were they?" I asked.

"Well, this was back in my Senior year of high school. Louis looked a bit too old to be in high school, but back then, who cares right?" he asked with a smile.

"Can I look at this some more?"

"Go right ahead dear." he smiled. I thanked him and finished my dinner. I put my plate in the sink and took the yearbook upstairs to my room. I flipped through all the pages of the yearbook and saw pictures that Niall was in. Louis and Niall were part of a band with three other boys - Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, and Liam Payne.

Winter break was finally over and the English project was done. I turned in the project to my English teacher and when the bell rang for lunch, I walked out. I went to my locker to put my stuff away. "Amber!" I heard Niall's voice ring out from the hallway.

Within seconds of hearing his voice, he appeared next to me. I closed my locker, holding my grandfather's yearbook close to my chest. "What do you want Niall?" I asked him. He looked surprised by hearing the tone of my voice. I was still mad at him because he had kept a secret, but I was also hurt that he kept it from me.

"What's that?" He motioned towards the yearbook in my arms. "It's my grandfather's. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to look for my friends." I said, walking away from him. I entered the cafeteria and saw my friends sitting at our usual table. "Let's eat outside for today." I told them.

Kate and Ashley followed me outside to a table. The three of us sat down as I laid the yearbook onto the table. "Why do you have a yearbook?" Ashley asked.

"It's my grandfather's." I replied.

"Why do you have it?" Kate asked.

I handed the yearbook to Kate as she opened it, flipping through the pages like I did. I knew what paged she stopped on when her eyes got big. "Wait, Niall's in your grandfather's yearbook." she said. I just nodded as Ashley looked over Kate's shoulder to glance down at the yearbook.

"You two are going to think I'm crazy, but I've done some research and a lot of it. I followed Niall to his house because while we were working on our project for English, he kind of... shut down on me. When I reached his house, I met one of his friends and it was at the house when Niall told me that he was a vampire."

I whispered the last part because I didn't want anyone to look at me like I was crazy. "That's not possible. They don't exist." Kate said.

"Ew, he's old." Ashley said.

"He's been the same age for... I don't know how long." I said.

"What are you going to do?" Kate asked.

I shrugged, "Not talk to him I guess." I looked down at my hands and the yearbook was passed back to me. "You can't do this to yourself Amber. You have to confront him. You two-"

"I can't grow attached to a vampire. I mean, I can't fall in love with one and... he's better off without me." I interrupted Kate, taking the yearbook and headed back into the building. After school, I drove back home and went upstairs into my room. As soon as I opened the door, Niall was standing there. "How did you get in?" I asked him.

"Your grandfather let me in. Amber, let me explain." he said.

I stayed silent as if wanting him to continue with explaination. "Go on." I gave a slow nod. He glanced over my shoulder as I closed the door and then sat down on my bed.

"It's true. I am a vampire and I've been a vampire for over a hundred years. I've been the same age for that long as well, but where I lived and grew up, that's all true. My birthday is the same, eye color, and I dyed my hair. Those are all true about me. From this point and on, I'm not going to lie to you.

"Louis, you met him, he's a vampire too and the rest of our friends - Zayn, Harry, and Liam. They're all vampires. We kill to satisfy our hunger, but we don't kill for pleasure. Over the years, we've gone to high schools and colleges all over the country to attack. We don't neccessarily kill everyone at the school. We just aim at a certain group.

"Now you know why I know so much about vampires, even more than your grandfather. Amber," He took my hand, looking into my eyes. His eyes were so blue, but I could see it in his eyes that he meant everything that was saying. "I want you to believe me that I'm not going to hurt you, or your friends.

"I'm asking for you to keep this secret and I know your friends know, but you cannot tell anyone else in school. No one must know of our existance. Otherwise..." He trailed off, looking down and I had a feeling I knew what he was going to say next. He looked away from me as I reached up, turning his face towards me.

"I'll keep your secret, and my friends too. You can trust us. You can trust me." I said.

"How?" he asked.

I looked into his eyes as I leaned in and kissed his lips. The kiss was so magical and the moment I pulled away, I felt like I wanted more than just a kiss. "That's how." I said with a smile. He smiled and kissed my lips again.

Niall's POV.

"She knows our secret now?" Louis asked. I brought Amber with me back to the mansion to have the guys explain their story to Amber. "My friends Kate and Ashley know as well, but I assure you, they're not going to tell anyone else. I called them and made them swear to secrecy that they keep your guys' secret." she said.

"So you know what happens when too many people know we exist?" Liam asked.

"She figured that out on her own." I smiled at Amber and she smiled back at me. "Are you two like a thing now?" Zayn asked.

"We both know it's a dangerous thing, but we care about each other. I'm always going to make sure no one else harms her." I wrapped an arm around her shoulders, eyeing Harry who put his hands up in defense. "Hey, I know she's your girlfriend." he said.

"What's going to happen now?" Louis asked.

"Nothing's going to change. Everything will go back to normal." I said. Well, that's what I hoped. I finally got the girl that I've always wanted, but what I wasn't sure was the dangers that lie before us. But no matter what, we were going to get through it all together.
