2. The Topic

Niall's POV

Ever since I arrived at the school, there was no one I really wanted to hurt. The guys and I would usually execute an entire school because we were blood-thirsty. It was the only thing we wanted. Yet, I wanted more. I wanted love. I wanted to be loved by someone who'd take me for me and not for what I am.

Amber and her friends were the nicest girls in the school, popular too. I liked them, but mostly Amber. She had the prettiest green eyes I've ever seen and her smile was amazing. I knew I had an effect on her. It was those times when I looked at her and I'd catch her blushing. I wanted to reach out and feel the warmth of her cheeks, to feel the warmth of her body against mine.

Weeks had passed and it was almost the start of a new semester.

"Class, I want you to all pick a partner for the project due when you come back from Winter Break." Our English teacher had assigned each of us a topic to research. Ours was vampires. There were myths about vampires, lots of them. "This will count towards your final grade for the semester." she said.

"Want to be partners?" Amber asked with a smile. It wasn't really necessary to ask, but I'd be her partner any day. I smiled back at her, "Sure."

Amber's POV

I cannot believe we were given the topic about vampires. Couldn't we have something about angels or even a topic about another country? I was glad Niall agreed to be my partner. He was the only person I talked to in class and I liked how calm I could be around him, even though I was a bit jittery on the inside, it didn't show.

The bell rang and the two of us walked out of the classroom together. Everyone had thought that we were dating because they constantly saw us walking side by side in the hallway. "Do you anything about vampires?" he asked me as we stopped by my locker.

I opened it, putting some of the books into it. "Just some stuff I heard from my grandfather. He's... let's just say obsessed. He believes they exist." I told him, closing my locker. We were walking towards the cafeteria when a guy had stopped Niall in the hallway. This guy had brown hair and brown eyes.

I kept my distance from them while my friends walked up to me. "Hey Amber. Who's the guy talking to Niall?" Katie asked me as the three of us looked over at Niall and the guy. I shrugged, "I have no idea."

"Is that guy new too?" Ashley asked.

Niall patted the guy on the back, then they parted ways and he walked up to us. "Sorry about that." he said. "Who was that?" Katie asked him.

"He's a friend of mine. He had to leave though because he didn't want to risk being caught." he answered.

Katie just nodded, then walked away and I knew that she was disappointed. "Will we meet him?" Ashley asked as we headed to the cafeteria and sat down at our table. "Probably." he said. Katie stayed silent and Ashley stopped asking questions. Things did get a bit awkward for a moment.

"Our English teacher gave us a topic to work on for our english project." I said, trying to break the silence. "What's your topic?" Katie asked.

"Vampires." I replied. Katie and Ashley both looked at each other, then started laughing.

"Are you kidding!?" Ashley asked.

I shook my head and they laughed even more. "There's no such thing Amber! Those only exist in fiction books." Katie said as I rolled my eyes. I knew they'd act like this and even I acted like this when my grandfather had told me the stories about vampires. "Well, I think it's cool that we have a topic about vampires." Niall smiled, looking at me.

Katie and Ashley stopped laughing as they looked at him. "Why? Vampires are old." Ashley said.

"They're old, but they don't look old. They're immortal." he said. "Also, you could never tell if someone's a vampire."

"Why's that?" Katie asked.

"Some have evolved. You know, they learn to blend in with the crowd and walk in the sun instead of walking at night."

Niall was beginning to sound like my grandfather, a lot like him. Maybe the two of them can have a long-endless conversation about vampires. "How do you know so much about them?" I asked.

"I read." he smiled. "Stories are passed down from generation to generation and there's some who believe that vampires exist. I'm not a big believer, but a person may never know whether or not they encountered a vampire."

It was just that statement that hit me. Questions ran through my mind: Do vampires really exist? How does Niall know so much about vampires when he stated that he 'read' about them? I shook off the thought and still, this was all nonsense to me. The bell rang and we went our separate ways to class.

...

After school, I went home and sat down on the couch across from where my grandfather was sitting. "Grandpa, do you really believe there's vampires amongst us?" I asked him.

"Yes. Why do you ask?"

"Well, I met a boy at school and I think you'll like him. He talks about vampires with such fluency. It's as if he knows more than what 'believers' know." I said.

"Invite him over to our house and we'll see." he smiled.

I smiled back, "Okay grandpa." I grabbed my bag and headed upstairs to my room. Something wasn't right. I turned on my laptop and typed in the search bar 'Vampires.' Every link I clicked on and read through all said the same things. Vampires drink blood, vampires are immortal, vampires walk at night, and they have pale skin.

How was it possible for a vampire to walk in the daylight?

Vampires can be killed with a stake through the heart. There was also a lot of other irrelevant facts about vampires that only exist in movies, like Twilight. There was something about this topic that interested me and I was determined to know more. I just had to ask Niall.

Niall's POV

Vampires. That was the topic for our English project. I arrived at the abandoned mansion where the guys and I were staying at. "How's it going Niall?" Zayn asked. I sat down on the couch in the living room. The rest of the guys were in there too, drinking their glasses. "It's been a stressful week." I said as Liam handed me a glass.

I thanked him and took a drink. "Why's that?" Liam asked.

"My English teacher gave me a topic for a project." I answered.

"What's the topic?" Louis asked.

"Vampires." I replied.

"Well, that's easy. Just write about us." Harry smiled.

"That's not the hard part." I said.

"What is?" Liam asked.

"The girl in my English class is my partner. Her name is Amber and-"

"Amber. That's such a pretty name." Louis interrupted.

"I'm not done yet. I don't want her to find out about what we are." I said.

"Just don't let her think you're crazy." Zayn said.

Those were the words that I feared. I didn't want to push Amber way knowing that I'm a 'believer' like some people. I'm not a believer. I'm the real thing and if she found about my secret, would she hate me?

Author's note: Sorry about taking forever to update. I apologize for being EXTREMELY busy. I have AP testing this week and next week so I'll be studying like crazy. In the meanwhile, you all can read my stories. This one is different from the others because this is my first One Direction supernatural story where they are vampires (only the boys). It will get better!

Please do me a favor and tell me what you think. I'll accept criticsm, but don't be rude about it. Enjoy!

-xoxo
