3. A Promise and A Surprise

After about five minutes thought, I sighed a breath of defeat. "Okay, I promise not to tackle you."  Wait..... shouldn't I be the one making up these promises? I tried to get her off of me again, but she just wouldn't budge. She eyed me warily then said, "Honestly, and I hate to say it, I believe you. I just hope that my judgement about you isn't wrong....." and with that she eased off of me, careful to keep her back to the door for an emergency escape. I got up as she was almost to the door.

"Hey, wait." I said. She stopped dead in her tracks, and from what little I could see in the dark room, her eyes went wide as though we said what was needed and nothing more was to be spoken between us. "Where are you from? How old are you? What's your-" She held up a hand to cut me off. She backed toward the door as she replied, "Look, I know we both have something to do. We can talk some other time- if we ever see each other again." With that she ran out of the room. I ran after her, but she disappeared. I quickly reminded myself that I had a mission and that I had just spent about ten minutes fighting with some girl.

I walked down the hall and heard voices. I walked toward a door that was cracked open and peered in. Inside, there was a man dressed in black and a little blonde girl. I backed up and looked at the room number- it read 5191. I pulled out my recorder, hit record as the man started talking and listened.

M: Shut up! I'm getting really tired of your voice.

G: No, because I know the police will get here and my sister will kick your butt.

M: Again with the sister! My sister is so brave, my sister is so smart, my sister is blah blah blah! Just shut up! It would make my job easier.

G: You won't be able to leave. You will be in big trouble. She said in a sassy tone. Honestly, she was too sassy for her own good.

I whispered into my mic, "I found the little girl, but the man is getting impatient with her. I need back up now. The reply was not what I expected, "You wil have to take care of him. We are stil trying to get the doors open without restoring power to the building. Good luck kiddo." I sighed.

M: Okay, thats- What the- I heard gunshots and remebering what I was told ran in wishing I had a gun myself.

When I ran in I startled the man- considering the fact that he was mysteriously handcuffed to a bar on the ground. I looked around the room for the little girl and saw her in a corner. I slowly walked toward her. She looked at me with familiar eyes. As I stepped closer I couldn't recall where I had seen those eyes. I shook the thought off. I finally decided to talk to her. "Hello. My name is Angelica. I'm one of the good guys. What's your name?" She seemed to relax as I spoke.

"My name's Rose." I noticed her hands were behind her back while she spoke. She nocticed me looking and pulled the gun out. "I grabbed it when he fell. Here." She handed it to me. I slipped it into an evidence bag and turned to her.

"Let's get out of here, Rose." I walked to the window and saw my emergency cable was there. I clipped Rose on and while I did that she looked past me the entire time. When I had her clipped in, I turned to put a tracking device on the man. As I put it on I heard a giggle and shush. I turned around and saw the girl I had tusseled with holding Rose.

My jaw dropped, because she didn't look the way I expected. She had long strawberry-blonde hair pulled back into a slick ponytail with a green scrunchy holding it back. She wore a green t-shirt that read John Deere Girl  with jean shorts that came down to her knees. She wore basic pink and white Asics shoes. She had a ton on freckles on her body (mostly on her face) with a birthmark shaped like a cloud on the leftside of her forehead. She slipped a glove onto her hand and asked, "This your rope, Angelica?" I nodded, "Cool, 'cause I'm gonna borrow this okay? Okay." and with that she jump onto the rope bringing Rose down with her.

I stood there for a moment frozen in shock. She looked my age. How did she know my name? Did she hear me tell Rose? How did she get in the room without being detected? All those questions and more flooded through my mind as I watched her fearlessly slide down the cable. When the shock wore off I clipped myself onto the cable and went down.

As I got to the bottom, I unhooked myself and looked for Rose and the girl. I saw Rose surounded by some paramedics and walked over to her. She smiled as I got closer. "Hi, Angelica!"

"Hello, Rose. How are you?" I asked. She giggles as one of the paramedics tapped her knee.

"I'm better. Now that I'm out of the dark. I don't like the dark." She replied. As she spoke though, I noticed she kept looking past me. I turned around and saw the girl walking toward us smiling. I stared at her as she walked up to Rose.
