14. Chapter 14 - The end

Louis woke up during the night. He had had a nightmare about Harry, and was determined to go check if Harry was alright. He went out of the door and down the hall to the room Harry was lying in, or, where he should have been lying. When Louis opened the door, the room was empty. Louis panicked and ran back, to wake up Simon.
“Simon! Wake up! Harry is gone”
Simon mumbled that Louis should go back to bed, but Louis refused.
“Simon please, he isn’t in his room!”
Simon opened his eyes and blinked a few times.
“Off course he is, where should he else be?” Simon said a little annoyed and confused.
“I don’t know, but he isn’t there” Louis replied almost crying and concerned.
Simon pulled the string and a nurse came to their room.
“Where’s Harry?” Louis asked the moment she entered the room.
She hesitated a bit.
“He woke up earlier this night..”
Louis looked tense at her and waited for her to continue.
“But, it was caused by an unexplainable heart attack”
Louis felt like his heart stopped and he looked at Simon.
“What do you mean by ‘unexplainable’?” Simon asked worried.
“Well” The nurse said and took a breath
“Is he alright?” Louis almost shouted, with tears coming to his eyes
“Calm Louis” Simon reassured him and laid an arm around his shoulder.
“No” Louis yelled and removed Simons arm. “Please take me to him! I need to see him” Louis begged crying.
“I’m afraid, you can’t” The nurse said low.
“Why?” Louis cried.
The nurse breathed in and closed her eyes. She opened them again and looked with tears in her eyes.
“We took him to another hospital immediately”
“Aand?” Simon asked a little impatiently.
“He didn’t make it” She said short.
This time Louis was sure his heart stopped. He couldn’t breathe.
“No!” Louis said uncomprehending. “He must have! He’s strong” Louis cried.
The nurse sighed, shook her head and looked at the ground. Louis looked confused at Simon, who didn’t say anything. He was just looking straight out in the room, with tears streaming from his eyes. Louis stood up and his hands against the wall. In fully frustration, he swung his hand and toppled vases and flowers at the floor, not able to control his own body. The nurse called for a pair of male nurses, to handle Louis’ outbreak. Suddenly Louis body felt all weak and he fell on his knees, smashing his fists at the floor while shouting.
“It can’t be true!” Louis suddenly said and looked up at the nurse. “You’re lying!” Louis shouted, stood up and walked looming against her. At the same moment the two male nurses came into the room, right in time before Louis reached for her. The held him back, while he aggressively kicked and was all out of control. “Let me see him!” Louis cried loud. The one man held him tight while the other anesthetized him. Slowly Louis couldn’t move his body and then it all went black.

When he again woke up, it was in his and Harry’s bed, back in the house. He opened his eyes and winked a few times. Then he sat up quick remembering what had had happened. He stormed out the door. “Simon?” He shouted out through the house. “I’m in the living room Louis” He heard Simon yell back.
Louis ran down the stairs to the living room.
“Simon I need to see him, plea..” He stopped when he entered the room and a sudden illness came to him when he saw who was sitting at a table with Simon.
“Hello Louis” A female voice belonging to Louis’ mother said.
He felt all dizzy and need to support at the wall. Next to her was James and then Simon.
“W-what are you doing here?” He asked with a low confused voice looking from his mother, to James and lastly at Simon.
“We heard what happened, and wanted to be there for you at the funeral” His mother said carefully, walking against him.
“Funeral?” Louis asked. It still wasn’t occurred to him that Harry was dead.
“We’ll make sure he’ll have the best last goodbye” His mother said and was about to hug Louis.
He looked indignant at her, pulling back.
“Don’t touch me!” He said and stepped back and looked still confused, back at Simon, who tried to avoid eye contact. Louis ran upstairs at his and Harrys room, slamming the door behind him.
He sat down in the bed, looking around crying. All the memories came to him as he looked at the walls. There were hanging pictures of him and Harry. He swung his arms around his knees and covered his face. The tears had free rein.
A little later it knocked on the door. Simon came inside and Louis looked up with red and judging eyes. “Why?” was the only thing he could get ahead. Simon sat down next to him and took a deep breath. “Because they’re your parents, and they want to be there for you through this tough time” Simon laid a hand on Louis’ shoulder, but he snorted and shook it off.
“I don’t need them. I don’t need anybody to be there for me. I only need Harry” Louis said and looked broken at Simon. He sighed and nodded. Then he stood up and was about to walk out of the room, when he stopped and looked back at Louis. “Let go then” Simon said. Louis looked up at him confused, but stood up and followed him.

When they arrived at the hospital, Louis stayed in the car for a minute. Simon came and opened the door for him. “It’s all right if you aren’t ready yet” Simon said, but Louis shook his head and stepped out of the car. Simon laid an arm around his neck as they walked through the doors to the hospital. Before the entered the room where Harry was lying, Louis hesitated pulling down the doorknob and took a deep breath. He felt dizzy and swayed a bit, but Simon was quick to support him. “I don’t know” Louis said low and looked at Simon. His face was all pale and he felt like he was about to throw up. Simon pulled him in and embraced him. “It’s okay, if you aren’t ready Louis. It’s all okay” Simon said and a tear streamed down from his cheek and hit Louis. They slowly pulled out from the embrace, and Louis took a deep breath. He faced the door and slowly pulled down the doorknob. He carefully entered the room followed by Simon, but turned around and cover his face in his shirt the moment he saw Harry. It was too much seeing him lying there in the bed, lifeless. “I can’t” Louis said all torn. He could feel tears hitting his scalp as Simon laid his arms around him. Louis turned his head. He gently pulled out from Simons grip and walked against the bed. His legs felt all weak and he knew he could break down every minute from now.
Louis stood right next to Harry now, gently and hesitantly laying his hand on Harrys, feeling how cold and lifeless it was. “Why him?” He asked and looked over at Simon how just stood in the middle of the room with crossed arms crying. Louis looked back down at Harry. He was all pale and Louis could barely recognize him. “Sorry Louis, but I just need a moment” Simon said and left the room. Louis sat down at the chair next to the bed. He covered his head in his arms and began to sob.
He looked back up at Harry. “Why you?” He asked. “Why not me?”

Few days later, the funeral where set up. Louis hadn’t been eating the days up to, and what he had eating, had been thrown up again. He hadn’t said anything either, and when they had been out, choosing a coffin and tombstone, he just shortly picked a white one, and on the tombstone he let Simon choose with to be written. James had offered to pay. And when the undertaker asked if they wished for Harry to be buried or burned, Louis had to leave the room to throw up.
They day the funeral took place, Louis and Simon were standing outside the church, greeting people. The bells began to ring and Louis looked up at the sky, trying to hold back the tears. “Just let it go” Simon said and smiled a little smile trying to cheer him up. Louis smiled short as a reply. They went inside and sat down on the front row. The coffin was already covered with flowers and cards.
The priest went to the alter and started his speech.
“Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Give us the belief that it is true. A candle is lit in the darkness. And the darkness will not overcome it….” He started out.
“And by that, I think, I will give the word to Louis” He said and looked over at Louis. He stood up and he could feel how weak his legs and entire body was. He walked to the alter and looked at out at the amount of people in the church. He cleared his throat and looked short down at Simon.
“Harry was more than just a friend to me..” He said and held a little break. “He was my light in the dark. He was there for me when nobody else was around” he said with tears in his voice while tears streamed down his cheeks. He looked down at Simon, who immediately went up by his side and took the papers from Louis. He smiled at Louis and laid his arm around his neck before he continued Louis’ speech. “Harry believed in me. He was the love of my life, who taught me the meaning behind true love…”
Simon ended the speech and gave the word to Louis, who sniffed short.
“When I first got to know Harry, we had a little fight. He wrote me this song..” He took a short break. “He named it ‘They don’t know about us’, and, well, I guess the title says it all”.
Louis looked at the pianist, who started playing.
Louis looked down short before he began to sing.

“People say, we shouldn’t be together,
too young, to know about forever,
but I say, they don’t know,
what they’re talking about,
cause this love, is only getting stronger,
so I don’t wanna wait, any longer,
I just wanna tell the world that you’re mine boy

They don’t know about the things we do
They don’t know about the ‘I love you’s’
but I bet you if they only knew,
they would just be jealous of us,
They don’t know about the up all nights,
They don’t know I’ve waited all my life,
just to find a love that feels this right,
Baby, they don’t know about, they don’t know about us”

When the song came to an end, the crown was left with nothing with tears in their eyes.

As they went out of the church, people came to Louis to tell him sorry for his loss and what a beautiful song it was.
At the cemetery, the coffin was lowered.
The priest spoke his last words, threw a handful of soil at the coffin, before it was covered.
When everybody was gone, Louis stood back alone at the grave with a rose in his hand and tears streaming down his cheeks. Simon came and stood beside him.
“It just isn’t fair” Louis said low.
“I know” Simon said and patted him on the shoulder. He bent over and laid a rose on the grave. He then turned to Louis. “I’ll just wait in the car” Simon said and hugged him. He then left Louis by himself at the grave.
“Nothing will make sense without you” Louis said and looked at the tombstone. He squatted down and laid the rose among the bouquets of flowers. He stood up and took a last look at the tombstone before he left the cemetery.
