5. Changed

When I awoke, I found myself still on the bench. The sun had just barely risen over the horizon. It cast a beautiful morning glow as the darkness began to disappear. I got onto my feet and began walking further towards the country side. Honestly, I had no idea where to go. I couldn't go back to Chris' house because he would never let me leave.

I remember he would keep me locked up in my room almost every single night and would only allow me to come out when it was time to eat or when we would go to school. From far away I could see houses that lined the streets and they all looked familiar. If I cut through the street, people would notice me. Or that's what I thought.

Instead, I went across through the park. I knew where I was going now. I sat down on a bench to rest my feet and brought my knees to my chest. My past was behind me and now the future lay ahead of me. I kept thinking about Harry and how he feels. I mean, I left him without saying a single word.

The last conversation he and I ever had was when we came home after the party. I remembered the few days when I stayed at his house and the day I met his friends. Just thinking about them made me cry. I would never see them again, and I had a reason why.

Harry's face appeared in my mind; his bright green eyes and his cheeky smile with that dimple of his. I miss his curly hair and overall, I just miss him. Harry had been one of the few people, including his friends, that I trusted but my past was holding me back from falling for him. I could always try again.

I shook my head because I had doubts. I never fully believed other guys because of what Chris had done to me. Maybe... maybe Harry's different. I thought to myself. I sighed, getting off from the bench and began walking through the park.

...

Why do I keep finding myself back here in this place? In London? There was something about this place that drew me here, but I couldn't really figure out what it was. I didn't really have any money to buy anything. I walked into one of the stores to browse through the racks when I saw his face.

A smile spread across his face approached me and I fought every nerver in my body to not try to run. "Alyssa? Is that you?" I finally got a glimpse of his face. It was Chris. He hadn't changed since the last I had seen him. I swallowed hard and nodded, then looked through the clothing rack.

"Let me take a good look at you." he said, reaching out towards my face. He cupped my chin to move my head towards his direction. "You haven't changed one bit." He began stroking my cheek with his thumb and I felt uncomfortable with his touch.

I turned my head away and began to walk away, but he grabbed my wrist. "Let go of me." I muttered, then tried to pry my arm away from his grasp. He was hurting me; I could feel his nails digging into my wrist. "If you say anything else, you'll cause a scene." he said quietly into my ear.

I looked around at all the people who were watching us. "Be a dear and behave." He kissed the side of my head and pulled me into his chest, giving me a hug. I wrapped my arms around his waist only playing along while there were still in my eyes.

He held me at an arm's length and looked into my eyes. "I'm a different person Alyssa. Believe me." he smiled. His eyes told me a different story. I didn't want to believe him, but I didn't want to cause a scene either. "Let's go out for lunch. It's my treat baby."

His hand was held out towards my direction and I had to force myself to take it. We walked out of the store as he squeezed my hand tightly and walked down the street. He looked around, then pulled me into an alley way and pressed me up against the way. "Obey or else..." he said.

For a moment I thought he'd rape me in the alley way, but he didn't. He grabbed my hand again and pulled me along with him. As we passed by people, Chris and I smiled like we were the happiest people on earth. Truthfully, we were never happy.

We stopped by a restaurant that seemed familiar. Nandos. As we entered the restuaurant I saw a table where a group of guys gathered and I immediately knew who they were. He and I were walking towards their direction, but I squeezed his hand and pulled him in a different direction. "Let's sit near the window babe." I said.

He turned his attention towards me, looking into my eyes. "Why? Do you not like it over here?" he asked. The table he motioned to was a table away from where Harry and his friends were sitting. Chris was giving me a look like he was going to hit me right then and there. "Fine, we can sit here." I said.

Both of us sat down at the table and a waiter gave us menus. "How've you been?" he asked me. I shrugged my shoulders, looking down at the menu. "I've been okay." I said.

"I missed you Alyssa. You should come and move back in with me." he said.

Harry's POV

The guys and I were at Nandos to discuss our upcoming tour when Louis nudged me, motioning towards the entrance of the restaurant. It was Alyssa. She was entering the restaurant with a guy and I turned my attention away from her. I didn't want to hear what their conversation was about.

She looked happy with the guy that walked in. "Are you going to talk to her?" Niall asked once our food was served. I looked over my shoulder at the table Alyssa was sitting at and turned my attention back towards the guys. "No, I don't want to interrupt their conversation." I said, then began eating my food.

It had been months since the last time I saw Alyssa. I was hurt with the fact that she left so suddenly and it made me think that everything had been my fault. I should've talked to her instead of leaving her. When she left, I was so devesated. My mother asked me where she had gone to, but I couldn't tell her the truth.

Eventually my mum found out the truth and soon enough, we were having the police putting out a search party for Alyssa which ended only a few weeks ago. Now she was here in the restaurant with some guy I never knew about and I couldn't even face her.

Alyssa's POV

"Excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom." I told Chris. I was waiting for his approval and then he gave me a nod. I stood up and walked in the direction of the bathroom. I entered the bathroom and got in one of the stalls, locking it and leaned against it. I sighed.

I couldn't just stay in here forever. But what was I to do when Harry was there with his friends and Chris in the same place? I waited five more minutes before getting out of the stall and washed my hands. I walked back to the table and sat down at my seat. Our food had been served to us.

"Who are those guys over there?" Chris asked.

From the corner of my eye, I could see one of the guys look towards our table every so often. Harry was the only who had his back turned towards our table. "They're no one." I said, taking a bite of my food. "Do you know them?" he asked.

I shook my head and continued to eat some more. All of a sudden I felt a shock of pain run up my leg. I took a sip of my water so I wouldn't scream. The pain was unbearable and I could tell where he kicked me. Directly in the shin. "Don't lie to me Alyssa." he said.

"Yes, I know them." I told him.

"Why do they keep looking at us?" he asked.

"I don't know. I'm honest." I said.

"I'm going to the bathroom. If you're not here by the time I come back..." He began to threaten and then walked in the direction of the bathroom. I waited a while before letting out a sigh of relief. Liam stood up and walked over to my table, then sat down in front of me. "Liam, I can't... I can't be seen talking to you." I whispered.

"Harry needs to talk to you." he said, glancing over at Harry.

"Tell him to meet me at the park at midnight." I said. Liam nodded, then got up and walked back to his table before Chris even saw. Once Chris arrived at the table, I stood up and took his hand. "Let's go babe." he said, leading me towards the entrance. Before I was fully out the door, I glanced back to only catch Harry looking at me.

Chris and I walked back down the street. "Where are we going?" I asked him.

"I moved to London. I figured that it was way better than living in the countryside." he said. After we walked for fifteen minutes, we arrived at one of the houses. I recognized the street and knew we weren't far away from Harry's house. Only ten minutes. If he found out that Harry lived ten minutes from him, he'd run him down. "I liked it out there." I said.

"I know you did babe." he said as we entered the house and he closed the door behind us. I bet that would be the last time I would ever see the day again. Chris had to go to work and once he left, I could finally breathe. I checked the time and groaned. It was only one in the afternoon. I went upstairs and found a room that faced the street.

I opened another window, looking down the side to see a fire safe nearby. Just like Harry's house. I thought to myself and closed the window. I went over to the bed and laid down, but I couldn't close my eyes knowing that Chris would come home in the evening and kill me in my sleep. I knew I just had to wait until midnight to see Harry.

To me, Chris hadn't changed. He would leave me in the house, locked up with nowhere else to go and then if I escaped, he'd come hunt me down just like he did today. After all, he had been the person who told me my parents died in a car accident. I hardly saw them the day they passed away. All I know was that something wasn't right and I was going to risk everything to find out what it is.
