Paper Planes {One Direction}

Esther Bane was a completely normal human being, and a beautiful young teenage girl, until the day of the tragedy. The day changed her in the blink of an eye, and she soon found herself in support group once a week, trying to wake up from her nightmare of what happened that night in London. The night of the murder. The night of the nightmare, that kept hunting her night after night. Though Esther does have one happy thing left in her life, and his name is Harry Styles.

14. The speech

I was standing on the stage about to go live in front if a bunch of people. I was scared, but I had Harry holding my hand by my side backstage before I would speak in front of all these people and tell them my story. Everything had changed a lot over this week. I had eaten a few more times than I used to and I hadn't puked after it. I had only cut myself twice and somehow I even felt happier. Things were definitely moving forward and they were moving really fast.

I looked up at Harry as he stood there and smiled at me.

"You're gonna do great princess."

His words were calming me and made me believe in myself. I honestly couldn't believe some of the thing this boy had brought up in me and I kept them a bit in mind as I stepped out on the stage with a smile, to face all the strangers in front of me, as I was told to.

Everyone was staring at me as I found my place in front of the microphone and stared out at all of the people. In the back I could see my mother and my uncle both there to support me. My mum had that proud look at her face because she knew how hard it was for me to stand here.

I took another deep breath and looked around before I started speaking.

"Hi... My name is Esther Bane; I'm 18 years old and currently live in Finchley in northern London.

On May 4th 2012 my dad was murdered right in front of my eyes."

I let them get the message as I was about to tell them about me and what support group had done for me.

"The first couple of month after he passed I couldn't do anything to myself. I couldn't move, I couldn't speak and I wouldn't eat... My dad was my best friend. We lived on our own in central London and we always did things together. My best friend and the person I love the most was taken away right in front of my eyes."

I walked around on stage and placed the microphone on the floor for a second as I took of the long skirt that covered my legs and the very short shorts I was wearing under. I also took off the shirt I had with long sleeves that covered my crop top. People was about to know and see what I had done to myself and I heard how people suddenly started speaking as the scars and fresh cuts on my skin showed. The burn marks even showed.

"In August 2012 I started cutting and burning my skin and I still wasn't eating. This is when I started in support group, because my mum suddenly figured out what happened. She did this for my own best, but nothing ever happened to me. I couldn't handle being in support group, because I didn't want pity, I just wanted somebody who understood. And that's what I got. In December 2012 my new best friend started in support group because of his past. He became my best friend fast and always makes sure that I'm okay. And ever since then support group and Harry has helped me gain weight, start eating and even start being happy again. I've found a way through my pain because of the people I'm surrounded and because I made a choice. Happiness is a choice we all get, but people who've been hurt this badly doesn't always know how to take it in. We all need help.

So to all of you out there suffering from anything, whether you've been through something like me or something way different, you'll learn that people around us wish the best for us and no matter what people say, it WILL get better because we're stronger than the pain, and we will always be stronger than the pain. At least as long as we take in the advice and support we can get all around us."

I look at my uncle who had tears in his eyes. He was the brother of my father, a man a look up to a lot, but couldn’t stand be around because he reminded me too much of him. They were both really good men, and it was a shame that one of them had to die, but somehow I was glad I had Harry now. The boy who believed in me.

I got applause for my speech as I smiled out to the people in front of me. Some of them looked confused, yet they seemed to believe what I had just said.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the next speaker is a very good friend of mine. My best friend. Harry Styles.”

People clapped as he stepped onto the stage and kissed me cheek before I took my clothes and went out backstage where my psychologist Anna came up to me.

“Esther that was brilliant. You really opened up there and I’m really proud of you.”

“Thanks Anna. I wouldn’t have been able to get here today if it wasn’t for the support I’ve gotten through the past long time. Thank you very much.”

“You seem like you’ve changed a lot over the past 10 days.”

“I just made a choice. Harry and his friends helped me a lot.”

“He’s a good kid.”

“He is.”

“You know he is only here because of you right?”

“He told me. He’s afraid I’ll let go of life if he doesn’t show up.”

“He’s a keeper Esther. Make sure he won’t get hurt. He has a tough past, but he has come through that, and he will make it even further.”

“I know Anna… Trust me I know.”

I looked out at Harry speaking as he turned around and peeked at me through the curtain that covered the back of the stage and smiled at me. He was my keeper.
