2. Chapter 2

It was getting dark every minute, we would have to light some candles soon. Taylor made me a bed on the couch, I had to go to sleep early because according to Harry I was in shock and needed to rest. So I didn't argue, I was tired anyway. I hoped that when I woke up it would've all just been a dream and I would wake up in my own home and be able to hold my mother in my arms. So I got under the covers and dozed off to sleep.

*Harry's POV*

"Where did you find her?" I walked down the stairs and saw Taylor standing at the bottom looking up at me curiously. I took a deep breath. "Well, you know how I said I was going to try find something to drive in?" Taylor nodded. "Well I was outside the hospital and then I saw her lying on the floor. I stayed where I was and watched her in case she'd been infected, but when she got up she started talking to a zombie and then I knew she was one of us. So I saved her I guess." I shrugged. Taylor seemed to understand. That's one of the things I loved about her, she would always try and understand you no matter how you were feeling. I sometimes thought that she could be the one. "Had you ever seen her before the virus?" I looked at Taylor who was waiting for my answer patiently. I closed my eyes and tried to remember if I had ever seen Bo in the old days. Without the virus. I remember seeing a girl with dark hair like hers at the shops. I looked at her but she quickly turned away when I was looking back at her. I don't know how long ago it was, but I remember her blue eyes, she wasn't anything like other girls I'd been with. She seemed more innocent. But I had Taylor, not her. And that was okay, I didn't need her. I heard someone cough and I returned to reality. Taylor was looking a bit more impatient then before, I cleared my throat. "Uh-no..." She stared for a minute, then looked back at Bo. I passed Taylor down the hall and stood before the sleeping girl. I still didn't know anything about her, only her name. How old was she? Did she have anyone with her before I found her? What had she been through? I was scared to ask, maybe it would make her cry again. Maybe go insane, everything has come as such a rush to her now. There's still so much she needed to know, how to survive, how to stay calm. I guess Taylor and I would have to teach everything we knew in order to keep her safe.

*Bo's POV*

I was walking down a dark street, there were rats running along 2 giant fences above me which made the road very narrow. It was incredibly foggy, I couldn't see a metre in front of me. I called out. "Hello?" There was no answer, I called out again. "Hello is anyone there?"  I heard a woman's scream, it gave me goosebumps. It sounded freakishly like my mother. "Mum is that you?" I fastened my pace. As I continued down the street I heard a man call out. "Bo, help us!"

I stopped dead in my tracks, it was grandad. "Grandad I'm coming don't worry I'll save you!" I sprinted down the road, desperate to save my family. "Bo hurry they're coming!" I heard my mum call out. I ran as fast as I could, my legs were starting to tire. I could feel my chest tighten and my stomach clench with pain. Sweat streamed down my forehead but I pressed on. I had to get to my family. The fog started to clear, it was becoming easier to see which brought some relief to me. I saw 3 figures clustered together in fright, I knew instantly who they were. "Mum, Grandad, Grandma I'm here it's okay." I stopped in front of them and examined the situation. Grandma was chained by her feet to the floor, she was smaller and more frail then before. Her new look scared me, it was almost like if you touched her she would fade away to nothing. She stared at me with fear in her eyes, it was heartbreaking seeing her so vulnerable and weak. I had to get them to safety as fast as possible.

"Don't worry I'll get us out of here." I promised. Mum looked at me with doubt, then she looked behind me and her face paled and tears brimmed in her eyes. "Bo watch out behind you!" My mother screamed. She pointed behind me and covered her mouth to try and hide the sobs escaping her. I turned around and a dozen of the infected came out of the fog. They were hungry, hungry for flesh. I screamed and scanned the area for something to protect us with. There was a wooden plank on the side of the road, it was better than nothing. I picked it up and turned around hitting one of the creatures in the face. It did nothing more but make them more angry. They came closer, drool dripping from their mouths, bloodshot eyes, deformed limbs reaching out for my family. I shielded my family with nothing but myself, I'd do anything to protect them. But the infected didn't seem to be interested in me, they wanted my family. They clawed at my arms and threw me behind them to the ground. I struggled to my feet and screamed at them, hoping it would make some difference. "Please, get away from them! They continued on to my family. I heard my mother scream "Boooooooo!"

I shot up from the couch. The room was dark with streams of light coming through the spaces between the boards on the windows. I looked across the room. I could see 2 figures holding each other tightly in their sleep. Harry and Taylor. They looked like they were afraid to let go, like someone would rip them apart and they would never see each other again. I got up from my 'bed' and walked across to them. Harry chest was up against Taylor's back with his arms wrapped around her, she moved slightly and his grip tightened. I guessed he was very protective of her, how he watched her every move around the house, he wouldn't let her outside unless he was with her. Maybe it was just his romantic nature, to always seem like he would protect her from everything. To make her trust him. I'm sure all the girls he's been with would be kicking themselves for letting him go. I'd do anything to have someone like him.

I walked over towards the windows. I looked through a crack and gasped and stepped back from the window. There was someone out there. I forgot that everyone's worst nightmare had turned into a reality. I looked again and there were people just standing there, the infected were metres away from me with nothing but a couple of boards and glass separating us. One of them turned around and met my eyes. I froze, terrified of what would happen. Thankfully it turned away, my eyes going unnoticed by it. I must've looked like something else less appealing to the disgusting creature. I stayed there a moment but was interrupted with someone putting their hand on my shoulder.

"You okay?" The raspy tone whispered. I suspected that it was Harry, I turned and saw his face, it was harder to see though due to the lack of light, his curls looked beautiful with the  glowing light from the crack. Then I realised that I'd stopped breathing. I took a deep breath, filling my lungs with air. "Yeah, I'm fine. There's people out there." I looked to the window, Harry stood closer beside me and had a look out the crack. "Are they normal or infected?" He answered his own question when he saw them, he stood back. "Come on, you need sleep." His raspy voice spoke. He put his hand on my back and guided me to the couch. He had a habit of always having a hand on someone when he was with them, well at least that's what I figured. I got into bed and Harry pulled the covers over me and stared at me for a moment, then continued on. "Goodnight bo." He whispered. "Goodnight." I replied sleepily. I pretended I was asleep and observed his movements. He stood up straight and watched me for a while, then grunted and walked over to the window. He stared out at the crack again and gasped and moved away from it. I suspected he had the same experience as I had. He slowly crept over to the bed on the floor and got under the covers, wrapping his arms back around the sleeping girl accompanying him. She moaned and turned over to put her head on his chest. Then I slowly dozed off into a deep, deep sleep.
