The A Team

"By Matinee I love you! Daddy will be here to pick you up at 3 ok?" I ask kissing my daughters forehead.
"Ok mommy" she says before she runs off to the middle of the field to start football practice. (Soccer)
"She looks so much like you" Niall says as I open the car door.

"Yeah I guess, but she has your eyes, and let's hope she doesn't play like me haha" I laugh as I put the car in reverse. Niall snorts really loud. "Ha yeah, lets pray, not hope Hahaahaha" He cackled.
"Do you remember my first practice annnnd the first time we met?" I ask looking at him out of the corner of my eye"How can I forget, it was the first time I ever saw my soul mate. And broke a bone." He whispered the last part.
"HAY it's not my fault your face was in the way" I laugh
"Oh yea blame it on that" He teased.

4. Chapter 4

When I got inside I closed the door and sighed. Michel, who was sitting on the couch, smiled at me and paused her movie.

“So how did your date go with that guy? It was a date, right?” She asked.

“Look Michele, I’m tired and I just want to sleep can we talk about this tomorrow?” I said, truly exhausted mentally and physically.

“Yeah, I found your glasses by the way; they’re on your bedside table.” She said going back to her movie.

“Thanks. Goodnight and I love you.” I said.

“Love you too, kid.” She teased and I frowned.

I walked up to my bedroom and drug myself to take a shower, coming out more knackered then when I went in if that was even possible.
I got a text from Hanna a few minutes after I finished combing out my hair.

‘We still on for the mall tomorrow? –Hanna Banana XX’

I replied a confirmation and lay my head down on the bed, thinking. It wasn’t unusual for me to think before I fell asleep. Usually I was worried the door wasn’t locked or that I hadn’t brushed my teeth, but tonight I was worried about Niall. No I was worried for him.

Why was he with Ed, the drug addict? Why was he taking pills from him? Maybe I saw it the other way around and Niall was giving Ed the pills? Maybe they weren’t pills at all but candy?

Nope. I remember what I saw even if it was blurry. Those were not candy and he was not giving them to Ed. Not like Niall being a drug dealer was any better but, hey. I fell asleep that night hoping that Niall was okay wherever he was, that he was safe and warm in bed like I was. That someone loved him like he deserved to be loved. I hoped that his family was kind and caring to him and that there wasn’t something happening at home that had caused this behavior. But why did I care this much, we went out on one date and he was to handsy and probably just wanted in my pants. Whatever it was it haunted my dreams that night.

** ** * *** * * * * *

I woke up that morning and dressed in a cute florally dress with a cardigan and toms leaving my hair in a braid down my back.

I traipsed downstairs and grabbed my bag and an apple, ready to hit the mall with Hanna. But that would be too easy, right? Michel stood in the hallway with an eyebrow raised and her arms crossed over her chest.

“He slept outside. Why was he sleeping outside my house?” She said.

“Who slept outside?” I asked, genuinely confused.

“That guy you went out with. I looked out the window and he was asleep on our front lawn but some guy with extremely bright red hair was trying to wake him up. He was gone when I went to bed at three in the morning.” She said. “What’s with this guy and what happened last night?” She asked.

“I honestly can’t tell you because I don’t even know myself. I would if I could Michel but I can’t. We went out on a date last night, we kissed I felt sick and he brought me home with a kiss goodbye. That’s all that happened I swear.” Of course I was leaving out the fact the guy with the orange hair was a drug dealer and that my crush was a buyer.

“The moment you know something you come talk to me and I can help you, okay. I don’t want you to get in the middle of something and get hurt okay?” I nodded at her and smiled.

“I’ll tell you as soon as know anything.” I lied. I wasn’t going to tell her anything because she would flip a lid and ship me back home and I couldn’t go back there when my real friends were here.

I walked to the mall since it wasn’t too far from where I lived and met Hanna in the Forever 21. We shopped in there for an hour and made our way to check out the American Eagle for an hour or… three.

“Hanna if we don’t make our way to the food court now then I will wither away in front of you.” I whined.

“Okay there we’ll go to the food court. What do you want? They have pizza, mcdonald’s, wendy’s, sonic.” She listed off.

“Well I obviously want sonic, duh!” I said.

“I figured. C’mon we can talk about your date with Niall while we eat.” She said.

I knew that at some point she would want to talk about it and I was fine with that because I needed to tell someone about Niall. We got to the food court and ordered our food, sitting in the middle of the food court.

“So for starters where did you two go?” Hanna asked.

“Well we ate Mexican food.” I said scrunching up my nose.

“But you hate Mexican.” She laughed.

“I am well aware of that fact you twerp and so does Niall.” I said, popping a tot into my mouth.

“Is that all you did? Eat at a dumb Mexican restaurant.” She asked.

“No we went for a walk in the park and he kissed me, twice.” I said.
“No way kid. That so did not happen, Niall Horan kissed you!” She squealed.

I nodded and held up to fingers, “Twice.” I said.

“Why are you not more enthused about this? What’s wrong?” She asked, sipping her drink.

“I think there was something wrong, Hanna. I think he was high.” I said and she put her drink down calmly.

“Why do you think that, Laramie?” She questioned.

“Well because he was… well very different than normal. He was dazed and his eyes were red and he was a little handsy. But not like in a bad way, he just wanted to kiss me. He told me I smelt nice.” I said.

“Well what makes you think that he was high and not drunk?” She said.

“Well yesterday I saw him and Ed while I was on the bus. Niall took a bag of blue and white pills from Ed and they did this bro hug thing. It was just weird Hanna.” I said.

“Well you weren’t wearing your glasses yesterday so it might have been someone else.” She said.

“Why are you defending him Hanna? I mean it isn’t like he’s doing something bad enough to need defending but all of a sudden you’re a lot more accepting of this whole thing.” I said.

“It’s not as bad as it all sounds, Laramie. Justin said he and Niall like to let loose and have fun sometimes, it’s harmless.” She said.

“I can’t believe you right now! What if one of them goes too far Hanna? What then? Neither of us could handle anyone dying or being hospitalized nor could we afford to be associated with this scandal when and if they get caught. I’m tired and I think I have a cold Hanna so I’m just going to go home, grab a book, and curl up. I’ll see you at school tomorrow.” I said grabbing my bags and walking towards the exit of the mall.

For an instant I felt bad for being mad at Hanna and thought that I should probably go back and apologize but I didn’t have the energy to do that and then walk home. I was certain I had either the flu or a severe cold. I was so busy in my thoughts that I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going and I ran into someone.

“Oh my gosh I am so sorry.” I said.

“Laramie?” A familiar voice said. An Irish one to be specific, Niall’s Irish voice.

“Why are you at the mall all by yourself? Please tell me you weren’t just about to walk home alone?” He said.

“No I’m not alone, I was with Hanna and yes I am about to walk home. No can you please move so I can accomplish that.” I said, refusing to meet his eyes.

“What did I say about walking home alone? From now on you call me and I’ll drive you anywhere you want to go.” He said.

“Has anyone ever told you that you’re an overbearing jerk sometimes? I am perfectly capable of walking myself around. It’s a small town where no one drives anywhere, now please move.” I said.

Niall grabbed a few of my bags with his right hand and grabbed my now free hand with his left, dragging me out of the mall and to his car. His nice Range Rover that I loved because it was so beautiful.

“Laramie I will drive you home if you would like. Would you please let me drive you home?” He asked, like a gentleman.

“Well since you asked so nicely then I guess that you can. May I put my bags in the back seat?” I asked.

“I’ll put them in the back, you just get in.” He said, taking my bags and opening my door before shutting it and putting all my bags in the back. When he got in the car he sent me a small smile and I gave him one back.
“Your smile is so beautiful.” He commented, making me blush.

“Thank you Niall.” I said.

“It is the truth, no need to thank me. Now let’s get this show on the road.” He joked.

“Whoa there partner, seatbelt first.” I said putting my own on.

“What?” He asked.

“You put on seatbelt, it protect you from big crashes. Boom.” I joked.

“I know what a seatbelt does but why do you want me to put one on?” His eyebrow was raised and his head cocked to the side.

“Because I don’t want you to get hurt, that would hurt me. Now please put in on.” I said.

“You would be hurt that I was hurt? Why?” He questioned.

“Because I like you and it would be ashamed if you did something dumb like not put your seatbelt on or do drugs and died, now please Niall. So help me god I will get out of this car and walk home.” I sighed, now angry remembering the drug problem.

Niall was tense as he put his seatbelt on and reversed out of the car park.
“Oh so we aren’t going to talk about the joke I made about drugs, huh? That’s cool let’s talk about your old friend Ed that picked you up off my lawn last night and gives you drugs, that’s fun to talk about right.” I said with fake enthusiasm.

“Oh we can always talk about you being high on our first date, that one’s a winner! I say we start with that!” I said.

“Stop! Just Stop Laramie. That is none of your business.” He yelled smacking the steering wheel after we parked in my driveway.

“So you’re just going to yell and hit things now, huh? You going to hit me too, Niall. Let me add another thing to the list of crap that’s been running through my mind since Friday, let’s add the fact you took my first kiss away and you were too high to remember it!” I shouted. His body softened and he looked at me with sadness in his eyes.

I got out of his car and slammed the door, not caring about my bags in the back.

“Laramie no!” He yelled, but this time that yell was filled with sorrow.

“Why Niall?” I replied.

“Because I can’t believe you think that I would ever even consider laying a hand on you in that way. I’m sorry about exploding and for lying about Ed. I’m sorry for being high on our first date and for stealing your first kiss. I am so sorry, Laramie. But I think we should just talk it out, please Laramie talk to me.” He said, grabbing my hand and spinning me to look at him.

“Niall let me go.” I whimpered. He wasn’t hurting me I just felt as though I was going to be sick and I didn’t want to puke on him.

“No Laramie, please just talk to me.” He pleaded.
“Niall if you don’t let go of me I’m going to get sick on you and I don’t think you want that.” I said.

“Oh.” He said letting me go. I ran to the tree in the front yard and bent forward, puking. I half expected for my hair to get ruined but Niall held my hair back with one hand and rubbed my back with the other.

“Oh Laramie, are you okay? Of course you aren’t, why would I ask such a dumb thing. Come here, baby.” He said after I finished.

He lifted me into his arms and walked me into the house. I made no protest, laying my head on his shoulder.

“Which way to your room, sweetheart?” He asked.

“Down the hall, last door to the right.” I moaned.

He sat me on my bed and pulled my shoes off, unzipping my hoodie with puke on it and setting it in my bathroom.

“Do you have any hair ties?” He asked.

“Yeah in the bathroom on the sink, why?” I asked.

“Just sit tight, love.” I nodded and Niall came back with a hair tie in his hand. He sat behind me on the bed and pulled me closer to him so I wasn’t hanging off the edge but in between his knee’s my feet reaching only the middle of his calf. His hands started to go through my hair, massaging my head.

“Mmhh that feels so good, Niall.” I said making him chuckle. All to soon it was over and his hands were gone, leaving me pouting.

“Okay your hairs out of the way. It’s not my best braid but it’ll do.” He said, massaging my shoulders next.

“Why do you know how to braid?” I asked.
“Casey insisted that it would come in handy if I was ever in a relationship and she was right.” He said.

“A relationship?” I squeaked.

“Yes love, a relationship. I was going to ask you out again tomorrow and then after that date, if you said yes, to be my Girlfriend.” He said, getting off the bed and smiling at me.
“Really?” I said.

“Yeah but I guess I’ll do it now.” He said prepared to ask and I yelled no.

“What why not?” He asked.

“I want you to do it the way you had planned.” I said.

“Okay. Now would you like some tea, soup, water?” He asked.

“Would it be too soon to ask for a cuddle?” I asked, meekly and Niall smiled.

“Of course not, baby. Scoot over.” He said.

We both lay down and he slung an arm around my waist, pulling my back closer to his chest.

“This is so nice; I could stay like this forever.” He said.

I smiled and closed my eyes nodding. “Me too.”

And that was how I fell asleep that night, in the arms of the one that I was most scared of but was certainly falling in love with.
