Broken Crystals

When Crystal collapses in the middle of the road after another beating, headlights are the last thing she sees. She wakes up in a strange house, surrounded by five strange boys. She refuses to relax around them or be herself. But can the one Irish boy with the beautiful blue eyes show her what it means to be loved and fix her cracks?

89. Phone Call

Crystal's POV

My hands tremble violently as I wait in the living room, clutching a blanket to my chin. It had been three ridiculously long days since Niall had left with Calla and he'd refused to answer my calls or texts. Harry had managed to speak to him and he'd said he was about to board the plane home earlier this morning. He'd rang me as soon as he got off the phone with Niall to tell me what was happening. I'd thanked him vigorously but before he put the phone down he warned me of how Niall sounded on the phone. I had impatiently waited all day when finally the sound of the door opening causes my heart to flutter.
"Mummy!" The sound of my daughter's voice sends tears to my eyes and a smile to my face as the front door closes. She appears in the doorway, wearing a pretty pink dress and her hair in a long plait down her back. Her beautiful blue eyes were wide and bright; pink lips curved in a huge smile.
"Hey, beautiful." I chime, standing up as she rushes towards me. I pick her up and cradle her to my chest; just feeling her in my arms for several long moments.
"Did you have a nice trip?" I ask, pulling back and stroking hair from her face as she nods with a toothy grin.
"But I missed you, Mummy." She adds sadly, leaning forward and pecking me on the lips. I smile sadly as a tear spills down my cheek and I snuggle her into the crook of my neck.
"I missed you too, baby girl." I say, holding back sobs. I open my eyes momentarily to wipe them and catch sight of Niall's figure standing in the doorway. He drops his bags to the floor and meets my eyes. I swallow the lump that had formed in my throat due to his presence before attempting to talk.
"H-hey," I say quietly, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Hiya," He replies, looking down at Cee in my arms.
"Go and find Aunty Perrie and Eleanor, baby." I tell her and let her down. She runs over to Niall who hugs her before telling her where Perrie and El are. Everyone had gone home the day after Niall left but Perrie and El wanted to stay with me.
"Has he been round here again?" He asks, eyeing me with his lips set in a firm line. I was lying if I was to say he didn't counter how I looked; scared, sad and tired. I shake my head slowly at him and sit back down on the sofa.
"I'm sorry, Crystal." He says slowly with no emotion in his voice. Then he turns and walks out, leaving me alone in the room.

"I'm here, it's fine." Perrie whispers, clutching her hand in mine. El had taken Calla out and Niall had gone down to the pub to meet some of his other friends. It felt wrong, going behind his back like this, but I had no choice.

"It's ringing," I murmur nervously, squeezing Perrie's hand tighter as the noise drones on and on. Then it's picked up. The line crackles for a moment before going quiet.

"Hello?" The deep raspy voice that both sang me to sleep and spitted abuse washes over me. My heart picks up pace dramatically and I close my eyes, bracing for what I'm about to say.
