Broken Crystals

When Crystal collapses in the middle of the road after another beating, headlights are the last thing she sees. She wakes up in a strange house, surrounded by five strange boys. She refuses to relax around them or be herself. But can the one Irish boy with the beautiful blue eyes show her what it means to be loved and fix her cracks?

7. Perrie

I wake up the next morning, my eyes still heavy. I sigh and sit up, pulling the covers off of me. The chilly February air bites at my bare feet as I make my way over to the mirror. I take in my appearance. My messy blond hair falls in loose curls to my ribs and my green eyes are wide and dark. My arms are still bruised and battered; the same as my body. It's been a week since I woke up here, surrounded by the boys. They were more comfortable around me now; Niall especially. Since we hugged that night, I had opened up more to him and him to me. The doctor visited me every other day, checking on my weight and injuries. The doorbell had rung on Wednesday, the police standing there. They asked to speak to me but I wasn't ready to give them my statement. I didn't want to relive it all again. Niall had argued with them; telling them that I would do it when I was ready. I thanked it for him afterwards; but he just shook me off. It hurt and I hated that it did.

"Crystal?" Someone knocks on the door and I turn to look at it.

"Come in," I say, checking the clock. The sun had barely risen, it was just gone half six in the morning.

"Sorry for coming in so early, I heard you moving about so I assumed you were awake." Zayn appears in the doorway.

"Hey," I reply softly, returning to the bed and taking a seat on the end. He smiles before walking over and sitting beside me.

"How are you feeling?" He asks, eyes assessing me.

"Better," I nod slowly. I had been eating more and more every day with Niall's encouragement; even though I still felt guilty after.

"Good," Zayn says, smiling again.

"Look, I wanted to ask you something." He rubs the back of his neck with his hand, nervous.

"Yeah?" I ask, eyebrows raised.

"My girlfriend, Perrie, asked to meet you. She said she wanted to take you out shopping or something today, I thought it would be good for you to get out and have fun with another girl." He looks at me, smiling shyly. I take in what he's said, a smile forming on my lips.

"I'd love to," I decide, looking at myself in the mirror across the room.

"Thank you, Zayn." I tell him and he looks shocked.

"Anytime, Crystal. You'll have fun, I promise." He lays a hand on my shoulder before standing up and leaving the room. I stand up and head over to the wardrobe. I had no clothes, apart from a few of Niall's shirts and what I was in when they found me. I sigh and pull on the pair of tattered black leggings and over-sized jumper, pulling it over my hands. I pull my hair up into a messy bun and force a smile on to my lips. I walk into the bathroom and brush my teeth. I spit and run my tongue over my teeth. I hadn't been sick for about two days now. I smile slightly at the thought and take a deep breath. I check the time, just gone seven, then I open the bedroom door and head down the stairs.

"Morning, Crystal." Louis chimes as I walk into the kitchen.

"Morning," I reply shyly, stroking a piece of hair that had fallen from my bun behind my ear. Zayn smiles at me encouragingly from the breakfast bar.

"Breakfast?" Harry asks Zayn and Louis from the sink and they both nod. He turns to me and I shake my head. He nods, understanding. I had overheard Niall telling the boys not to pressure me into eating or drinking. They had found it difficult at first; never even bringing up food when I was in the room. But I'd explained to them that they shouldn't feel trapped in their own home because of me. I was the guest, anyway.

"What's everyone doing today then?" Louis asks, looking up from his phone.

"Erm... I'm going to go visit my mum," Harry replies. Louis turns to Zayn.

"Perrie's coming over, she's taking Crystal shopping." Zayn smiles at me and I take a seat on one of the barstools. Louis and Harry both smile widely at me as Niall enters the room.

"Shopping with who?" He asks, stretching. He walks over to the fridge and pulls out a cartoon of juice.

"Perrie's taking Crystal shopping today," Louis tells him and Niall looks at me, the cartoon pressed to his lips.

"Is that so?" He asks and I nod, blushing. Nerves begin to take over at the prospect. What if this girl thought I was stupid? Thought I was a skank? A waste of space? She was obviously going to be very beautiful. What if she didn't like me? What if it was all a joke to her? I look down at my hands that rest in my lap as the questions pour through my mind. The boys must have seen the worry on my face as Zayn is quick to comfort me.

"Perrie's lovely, Crystal. You'll really like her, I promise." Zayn says and Harry agrees.

"What time is she coming?" Niall asks, placing the cartoon back into the fridge. I try not to stare at his shirtless body. Zayn pulls his phone from his pocket, glancing at the screen.

"At about eleven," He tells us and I nod, more nerves swarming through me.
