28. Mummy

Perrie's POV

"Mommy!" I was rushing after Eleanor when I heard it. It was a young girl's voice. I stop and spin around; scanning the playground with my eyes. I spot the young child, her cardigan was caught on the side of the playset. I rush over to her and try to pull the material from the metal.
"It's alright," I say, trying to comfort her. She was panicking and so was I. Her large brown eyes meet mine as I fumble with her cardigan. I can only see one thing in them;
Fear.
"Nearly there." I tell her as I pull off the last piece of material. I spot the man coming down the path. He was trying to run but it was obvious that he was drunk so he couldn't stay in a straight line. I spot the knife in his hands and I bustle the little girl into my arms; holding her to my chest. She cowers into me, hiding her face. I can hear him mumbling something as I stand there and stare at him, dumbfounded. His blood-shot eyes snap over to me and he smiles menacingly.
"Well, aren't you a pretty young thing." He sneers. The little girl whimpers and I clutch my hand over her hair.
"It's okay, it's okay." I murmur, spinning around on the spot; searching for somewhere to hide. There was a group of bushes over to the right side of the park so I dash over and crouch on the muddy floor behind them. The little girl begins to cry for her mummy so I rock her back and forth, trying my best to calm her and myself. We stay silent and I listen.  I could hear the man's footsteps close by. My heart was racing and I felt sick with nerves and panic.
Oh my god.
His face appears through the bushes and he smiles again. I go to scream but then his eyes are rolling back and he falls forward; his face planting into the muddy floor at my feet. The girl whimpers and I stand up, backing away.
"Zayn," I cry, rushing over to him. He drops the brick he was holding and cuddles me.
"Come on," He says, taking my hand and I hold the little girl to me as we run towards the entrance to the park. I look back over my shoulder as we come to a stop near everyone else; wanting to make sure he wasn't coming back.
"I... My baby... she's...she's..." A woman is in hysterics; shaking violently. Harry is trying his best to comfort her but it doesn't seem to be working.
"Mummy!" The little girl cries suddenly, jumping down from my arms.
"Tess! Oh my gosh, Tess!" The woman exclaims, picking her daughter up and spinning her around. Relief sweeps over her face as she closes her eyes and snuggles the little girl to her.
"Thank you so much," She says to me. I shake my head with a small smile; still shaken.

The rest of the day goes by in a blur. We all end up at the police station and I notice that Crystal sits as far away from Niall as the small waiting room allows her to.
"Crystal," I murmur, putting my hand on her knee. She doesn't acknowledge me, just stares at the floor. Guilt and shame is written all over her face.
"Crystal, it's okay." I tell her and then she bursts into tears. I wrap my arms around her and rub a hand up and down her back. Niall meets my eyes from over her shoulder and I hold his gaze. I could see he was longing to comfort her; to hold her.
'Just give it time' I mouth to him and he looks at the floor with a small nod.
"Can we speak with Mr Malik now?" A man in a suit appears in the waiting room and Zayn stands up from the uncomfortable plastic chairs of the local police station. We wait for another ten minutes and then we're all allowed to go back. They told us they would be in touch. I hold Crystal's hand all the way back to the station where security have to hold off crowds of fans and screaming girls. The train pulls up and we all bundle on; taking our seats. I look out of the window at the sun as it casts an orange glow over the platform.
