Broken Crystals

When Crystal collapses in the middle of the road after another beating, headlights are the last thing she sees. She wakes up in a strange house, surrounded by five strange boys. She refuses to relax around them or be herself. But can the one Irish boy with the beautiful blue eyes show her what it means to be loved and fix her cracks?

2. Get Away

“Is she awake?” A voice asks.

“Her eyelids are fluttering,” Another states.

“Get the doctor,”

“Hello?” An Irish accent asks and I try my best to respond. Someone touches my shoulder lightly and my eyes snap open.

“Get away from me!” I scream, my eyes blurry with fear.

“Woah, I’m sorry...” A boy holds his hands up in surrender.

“I'm not going to hurt you.” His voice is soothing but it doesn't calm my fear.

“Miss? Are you alright?” A woman asks, rushing in to the room. I shake my head, tears rushing.

“Where is he?” I whisper and she cocks an eyebrow at me. I glance around, seeing that I’m sat on a bed. I cower away to the furthest corner of the huge bed and bury my hands in my hair.

“Where's who?” She asks, coming closer.

“My dad.” I reply, my lips quivering. I watch as the boy gives the woman a strange look. It's then that I notice I’m surrounded by four other boys.

“Get away!” I scream at them, their eyes rounding out in confusion.

“Get out!” I scream again, more tears sliding down my cheeks.

“I think it's best if you leave,” The woman says gently and they slowly back out of the door. The blonde one stays however, hovering in the doorway before finally closing the door.

“Are you okay?” She asks me once my breathing has calmed down a little. I nod my head, plastering a smile to my face.

“I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have caused that much of an inconvenience.” I tell her, standing up. Like I'd been taught to do. I wasn't to attract too much attention to myself. Or my father. I sway, however, weak and the woman tries to steady me. She guides me back to the bed and I lie down, exhausted.

“What's your name?” She asks and I close my burning eyes.

“Crystal,” I manage to splutter before coughing.

“Here,” She hands me a tall glass of water and I gulp it down, burning my throat.

“How many calories are in that?” I demand as I place the now empty glass back down on the bed stand beside me. Her eyebrows crinkle and her brown eyes scan over my body.

“Crystal, how much do you weigh?” She asks and I shake my head.

“I'm fat.” I say, closing my eyes.

“Excuse me,” The woman stands up and disappears from the room. A few moments later she returns with a strange device in her hand.

“Could you stand please, Crystal?” She asks and I nod slowly. I try to stand with her help and I step on to the device. It beeps and I close my eyes, not wanting to know.

“Oh my,” She gaps, sorrowfully. The woman helps me back to the bed and I sit cross legged, playing with my thumbs. I watch as she scribbles something down on a clipboard and then looks at me.

“Are you hurt anywhere?”

“No.” I lie. She clucks her tongue in obvious disbelief. A sudden itch conjures on my arm and I lift my sleeve up to itch it.

“Crystal,” She breaths and I stop, wide eyed in shock. I quickly rip my sleeve back down again and she carefully walks over to me.

“Can I see?” She asks and I nod. Slowly, she pries my sleeve up and gasps at the scars, cuts and bruises on my skin.

“Oh dear,” She whispers, obviously taken aback. She lightly touches my side and I wince. The woman then disappears out of the room again and the blonde boy slips back in. A concerned look covers his face and fear bubbles inside of me.

“Please don't hurt me,” I murmur, scrunching myself into a ball on the bed.

“I'm not going to hurt you,” His irish accent tiggles the words.

“Are you alright?” He asks and I try to sit up but the pain on my sides stop me. I fall back on to the bed in despair. The boy creeps closer and I freeze. Maybe he'll think I’m asleep. He slowly pulls up my jumper and takes in a sharp breath.

“Doctor!” He exclaims and the woman comes rushing back in.

“Look,” He breaths, his voice raspy.

“Oh my goodness,” She shakes her head.

“Crystal, dear, I’m going to need you to sit up for me.” I do as she says with her help and she removes my jumper. I should have been mortified at the boy seeing me in my bra but I was so exhausted, I didn't care.

“Oh my god,” He says and turns away. See. I was so fat the boy couldn't stand to look at me.
