Broken Crystals

When Crystal collapses in the middle of the road after another beating, headlights are the last thing she sees. She wakes up in a strange house, surrounded by five strange boys. She refuses to relax around them or be herself. But can the one Irish boy with the beautiful blue eyes show her what it means to be loved and fix her cracks?

Crystal's POV

A strange noise awakes me suddenly. Opening my eyes, I see that I'm in the living room, on the sofa. El, Susie, Perrie and Danielle are asleep in a tangle of blankets on the floor. Stretching, I try and locate the origin of the noise. Glancing at the open laptop on the other end of the sofa,  I see an incoming Skype call, from... Niall?!  I leap across the floor and immediately press answer. Niall's eager face pops up onto the screen, and fills me with joy.
"Niall!"
"Hey Princess! I miss you already! How are you?" He asks, headboard of a bed behind him.
"Okay, missing you already. The rest of the girls don't seem too great either." I chew on my lower lip, thinking back to how they were last night.
"We all slept in here last night after a movie." I tell him, gesturing round the living room.
"Good you're all together. The rest of the boys want to talk." He smiles, looking at something behind the laptop.
"I'll wake the girls," I say, holding a finger up.
"El!" I hiss, nudging her in the side on the floor.
"What?" El grumbles, shuffling her face into her pillow more.
"Wake up," I nudge her again and she smacks my foot away.
"Leave off Crystal." She groans, before sitting up and running  a hand through her tangled hair.
"What?" She repeats, looking at me through half closed eyes. I smile and grab the laptop, spinning it round so that the screen faces her.
"Good morning, beautiful! Or... maybe not." The sound of Niall's intoxicating laugh spreads through the room from the laptop.
"Niall," El fumes.
"You're lucky I can't hit you." She seethes whilst Niall continues to laugh.
"Where's Lou?" She asks him suddenly as I come around to sit beside her, kicking Perrie and Susie awake in the process.
"Here!" Louis voice trails through the laptop as he flops onto the bed beside Niall.
"Good morning!" He screams, defeaning us all.
"What the hell, Louis!" Perrie groans, sitting up and rubbing her eyes.
"Wait, where- what?" Susie asks, confused as she sits up too.
"Susie!" Harry's voice booms as his face is next to appear on the bed.
"Hey," She chimes, looking much more awake now.
"Where's Dani?" Liam asks, sounding desperate as he jumps infront of the camera.

We spend the next hours on Skype with them until they have to leave for rehearsals; my heart dropping the moment it ends.

********************

It's been a month now since the boys have left and I've been forced to stay inside. I was showing now; which wasn't good. We hadn't told the public and luckily no one had spotted it yet, which was a miracle. We had to tell them sometime though as it was summer now and the days and nights were getting hotter. I couldn't stand wearing oversized  clothes to hide my growing stomach anymore.
"Good morning," Perrie croaks, coming into the living room.
"I think you'll find it's the afternoon now." I chuckle, taking a sip of tea. Everyone had been asleep as we'd stayed up last night to talk to the boys. Niall had been doing an interview so I didn't get a chance to speak to him. I was dying to talk about what we were going to tell the public.
"Oh, is it?" Perrie asks, surprised. Her hair was all over the place, face bare and one of Zayn's shirts covering her body.
"Yep." I nod, picking up the book I had been reading.
"Where's everyone else?" She asks, looking around at the empty apartment.
"Still in bed," I tell her as she walks over to the fridge and pulls out milk. I go back to reading as she fills a bowl with cereal and adds the milk before grabbing a spoon and walking over, taking a seat on the barstool opposite me.
"What's the date today?" Perrie asks me and my chest tightens at the thought.
"June 15th," I reply quietly, chewing on my lip.
"Ah," She says, before looking up and noticing my face.
"Crystal? What's wrong?" She asks, letting her spoon fall to the side of the bowl.
"Nothing," I deny, shaking my head and trying to focus on the words of the pages of the book. My hands begin to tremble and I find it difficult to contain myself.
"Crystal, I know somethings wrong. Please tell me." She says gently, compassion filling her eyes.
"Today, today… my mum died four years ago today." I finally admit, slowly closing my book.
"Oh, Crystal." Perrie sighs, reaching towards me. She takes my hand in hers and squeezes it gently.
"Are you okay?" She asks me and I nod.
"Yeah," I say, taking my hand away from hers and standing up. I tip the remains of my tea down the drain; watching it helplessly swirl before disappearing.
"Do you want to go and see her?" She suggests quietly. My stomach pings.
"I'll take you." She adds, looking at me with compassion in her eyes.

"Here," I sigh, stopping in front of her grave. It was nothing special. No big statue of an angel or flowers surrounding it. Just a simple grey headstone. With her name, birth-date and date she died inscribed on it. I bend down and shuffle close to it; running my hands over the smooth stone. I smile sadly to myself as my fingers graze the bottom of the stone were it meets the ground. When she had first died, I had refused to leave it. I didn't want to leave her. I couldn't. I had cried and cried for days on end only leaving when my Dad dragged me away. I had taken a knife with me one day, exactly a week after she'd died. With it, I had managed to carve in to the smooth stone.
"No matter how hard it gets, you have to smile. You  have to be strong." It read. The last words she ever spoke to me. Her voice haunted me for months afterwards and I couldn't seem to get it out of my head; the way she said it. The way her eyes slowly slid shut for the last time. The way her chest slowly rose and fell for the last time. The way her lips moved for the last time.
"That's beautiful," Perrie says gently, crouching down beside me. She wraps her arm around my shoulder as I let the tears fall.
