Broken Crystals

When Crystal collapses in the middle of the road after another beating, headlights are the last thing she sees. She wakes up in a strange house, surrounded by five strange boys. She refuses to relax around them or be herself. But can the one Irish boy with the beautiful blue eyes show her what it means to be loved and fix her cracks?

4. Bread

**Niall's P.O.V**

I sigh heavily as I take a seat on the barstool.

“What is that smell?” Louis exclaims, scrunching up his nose as he walks in to the kitchen.

“Puke,” Harry explains, scrubbing at the sink.

“How is she?” Louis shoots me a concerned look, compassion in his eyes.

“She's in the bath,” I say, shrugging.

“I don't know how she is, she barely talks. What happened in here?” I direct the last part at Harry. He sighs and throws the filthy sponge that he was using in to the bin.

“She came in here looking at me so I offered her the bacon I was making. It was a whole frying pan full but she looked so frail so I placed it all on a plate. I could see the hunger in her eyes, Niall. She devoured it in minutes but then her face kind of... shifted. She looked ashamed. Like she couldn't believe what she'd just done. Then she rushed to the sink and threw up.” He shivers at the thought.

“Why was she crying though?” I ask him.

“No idea, she just crumpled to the floor and started sobbing. I had no idea what to do.” Harry shrugs, looking sheepish.

“I think she was abused,” I say and Louis gasps.

“Really?” He asks and I nod.

“She wouldn't let any of us near her, would she?” I remind them, thinking back to how she started screaming at us to get out.

“And the cuts and bruises...” I frown at the thought.

“What cuts?” Harry asks, his forehead crumpled.

“These,” Crystal appears in the doorway, holding up her arm in the light. Louis and Harry stare, speechless. I look away, I just can't look at them.

“Jesus,” Harry mutters and she pulls my shirt back down over her arms.

“Thank you for the bath,” She says, returning to her shy self. I offer her a small smile.

“Do you want something to eat, love?” Louis asks her nervously. Harry looks at me and I wait for her reaction.

“I'm fine,” She shakes her head, looking down.

“Are you sure?” I ask her and she nods, biting her lip.

Damn that was cute.

“Actually,” She decides, her voice shy.

“Could I have some bread?” I hop up and rush over to the cupboard. I rummage around and pull out a loaf of bread. Harry gets butter out of the fridge and asks her if she wants any.

“No,” She exclaims, rushing to stop him. He places it back in the fridge and she breaths a sigh of relief. I hand her the plain piece of bread and she takes it gingerly, her slim fingers grazing my own.

“Thank you,” She says with a smile and her whole face brightens up. I bite my lip and watch as she takes a seat in my chair at the breakfast bar and begins to pick at the bread. The three of us watch her intently as she finishes the bread. She stares at her hands for a while afterwards and I wait for her to throw up again. But she doesn't this time.

“Liam, give it back!” Zayn shouts, bombarding down the stairs.

“Never!” Liam exclaims as they rush into the kitchen. Liam is holding Zayn's hairbrush and dangling it infront of him like a toy infront of a dog.

“Liam!” He growls, going to snatch it from his hands. Louis bursts in to a fit of laughter as the two of them wrestle each other to the ground. I start to laugh too, but then I notice Crystal's terrified face. I kick Zayn and hiss at him to stop. He looks up at me, confused so I nod over at the girl. He follows my gaze and stands up slowly.

“I'm so sorry, Crystal.” He says, hitting Liam behind his back.

“Ouch,” Liam groans, rubbing a hand on his arm.

“Its-it's okay.” She stutters, but she was obviously shaken up.

“Come on,” I go to take her arm but she shys away from me. I frown and sheepishly look away but she follows me anyway. I lead her in to the living room and she nervously takes a seat on the sofa. I turn on the tv, hand her the remote and leave without another word. I return a few minutes later with a large duvet and a pair of my socks. She takes them gratefully before glueing her eyes to the screen. I leave her in there and head back to the kitchen.
