One Way or Another

Jenkins Ocean is nothing but a trouble maker after her parent's death. She's at an orphanage since she's not 18 yet. Her dad's all-time best friend since high school -Simon- decides that he's interfering.

Taken in by Simon Cowell, she meets what seemed at first the pain in the ass called One Direction. They all seemed nice to her, everyone but bad boy Zayn, though Zayn's not really fond of her either.

1. Moving out and Uncle Simon

I was staring at the city, just like every night since my parents' decease and my arrival to this stupid orphanage. I hated it here. I didn't even know what I'm doing here. I was already seventeen and perfectly capable of looking after myself. I sigh, waiting for dawn to come just like every night I do on the window seat. I reached my jacket and find what had been my best friend lately: my beloved lighter. I cursed at my lack of cigarettes. These last few days I had needed them more than ever.

The flashback came without warning. My parents. The car crash and the hospital after it. The feeling of loneliness and the lack of love had taken me by surprise. Tears were streaming down my face and the sudden urge to burn the entire place and end my life came without stop, but I hold the thought back realizing dad had always told me not to do things without thinking. I had always been a good girl, but maybe that wasn't enough to have a perfect life. Maybe rich jerks and bitches had it all sorted out.

I focused on the flame that emerged from the lighter in my hand. I watched it carefully, watching it's every move, so focused on the flame that I didn't hear anybody enter. Then, out of nowhere, my lighter was gone, along with the woman that always came to check on me. That bitch. The lack of lighter frustrated me so bad I hit my head against one of the glasses of the window seat and groaned.

I was sitting on my chair working at my office. The phone rang. I silently hoped that it was the call I was expecting so badly. "Cowell." I answered.

"Hello, Mr. Cowell, I am Mrs. Ferguson. I call from Daughtry Orphanage in Washington. I heard you asked about Miss Jenkins Ocean?"

"Yes, I am going to look after her. Her parents were really good friends of mine, so I shall take care of her."

"Very well then, be free to come pick her up any time you want."

"Thank you, Mrs. Ferguson. I shall be there in about two days."

"We'll be expecting you then, Mr. Cowell."

I hung up and called my secretary. "Marise, get me a plane ticket to Washington as soon as you can." He ordered.

"Of course, Mr. Cowell. You leave tomorrow morning."

"Thank you, Marise.

"So, boys, I have something really important to tell you." I said to the five boys that lived in the house, Liam, Niall, Zayn, Louis and Harry, also known as famous boy band 'One Direction'.

"What is it, Uncle Simon?" Liam asked me, as they all sat down on the couches from the living room.

"My best friend just passed away and-" I began, but Niall cut me off.

"Oh, we're really sorry, Uncle Si. Do you want to take some vacations? Because I see you've packed." Niall said.

I shook his head. "No, that's not why I packed. He passed away and I'm going to pick his daughter up from an orphanage in Washington."

"Wow," Louis said, "I didn't think you wanted to have any children, Uncle Simon. Never thought you were parent-material." All the boys laughed and I just glared at him.

"No. I actually wanted her to live with you."

"What?" The five boys asked. "No way." They stated.

"Yeah. It's said. Jen's staying with you."

The crazy woman woke me up. It was really early, so I just looked at her with annoyance. "What now?" I asked, half asleep.

"Someone's picking you up." She said as she opened the truck at the feet of the bed. I groaned and stood up. "Hurry. Get changed and come downstairs to my office."

"I'll be right there." I said as I took out some black jeans, combat boots, a white tee, and my scarf and leather jacket from the trunk. I walked into the bathroom and got changed. I folded my PJs and placed them inside the trunk, which she closed and took away. I sat on the bed and tied the laces of my boots.

"Well, Mr. Cowell, this is Jenkins Ocean." Crazy woman said when I walked inside her office. I turned to see who I was leaving with and his face seemed familiar. I tried to remember and the squared hair do did the entire job to make me remember. He was my dad's best friend. He walked near me hugged me.

"Hi, uncle Simon." I simply said.
