A Thousand Years

When Louis meets a girl, his life turns upside down and she changes him in ways that can't be explained. When an accident causes Louis to lose his memory, it is up to Angela and his friends to help him regain the memories that have been lost. In an attempt to help regain Louis' memory, he can only remember his past.

13. Proposal

Eleanor turned and faced me as a smile spread across her face. "Hi Louis!" She embraced me in a hug and I couldn't help but hug her back. I threw her a fake smile when we pulled away, hoping that she wouldn't notice. "Hey Eleanor." I said.

"I thought about everything that's happened and-"

"Eleanor, I've all ready thought about my decision. You and I, I'm sorry but we can't be together." As much as it had hurt to say it to her face, it had to be done. I could clearly see the hurt and confusion in her eyes. "I don't understand. You've only known her for a few months. How could you pick her over me?" she asked.

Yes, how was that I picked Angela over Eleanor? Even I didn't know the answer myself, but my heart knew. I don't know how I would be able to explain to Eleanor that it was time for both of us to move on. I didn't want to hurt her anymore than I all ready did, so I let the conversation between us end.

I called her a cab and opened the door for her. She slid in and I closed the door, watching the cab drive away. It's time to move on Louis. I told myself as I turned and entered the house.

About an hour or so later, Angela arrived and greeted me with a kiss on the lips. "How was the rest of your day?" I asked her as we both sat down on the couch together. "Long, but I don't mind. How about you?" she asked.

"I saw Eleanor." I answered.

"What happened?"

"She and I talked. It didn't last long though."

"What did you two talk about?"

"She was confused that I 'picked' you over her."

"Did you say why?"

"I didn't know how to explain to her why I picked you. It's just... it's a natural feeling you get. It's your heart that tells you and that you should follow it." She smiled and took my hands in hers, intertwining them. "I'm actually surprised that you picked me. I would've never thought that I'd be that lucky girl."

"To me, you are lucky." I smiled and kissed her lips.

"Don't worry, they'll be here." I assured Angela. We were both waiting anxiously at the airport for Angela's family. I was holding her hand, signaling that everything will be all right. "I hope they arrive on time. This is one of the rarest times that my dad ever gets to go on vacation." she said.

I looked at her and she rolled her eyes. "You know, people go skiing and snowboarding. They break their bones over winter break and my dad has to attend to them in the hospital. I never get to spend Christmas with him. The last Christmas we spent together was when Jessica had her first Christmas."

Suddenly her eyes lit up like a child on Christmas day as she turned her attention towards the little girl running towards us. "Sissy!" Jessica ran up and hugged her sister. "Hey Jess!" Angela hugged her back. She pulled away from her sister, then hugged her parents. Shortly after, Kate gave me a hug and I shook hands with Peter.

We drove back to the house and Angela's parents were seated on the couch. Jessica sat in between Angela and I. "How's life treating you here?" Peter asked Angela. She smiled, "It's great dad. I got a job and it pays well."

"That's great to hear honey." Kate smiled.

"Where do you work?" Peter asked.

"At a boutique." she answered. "Excuse me for a minute." She stood up and walked out of the room. "Jessica, how about you go and cheer your sister up." Kate suggested as Jessica nodded. "Okay mommy." She stood up and walked out of the room in the direction where Angela went.

"Is she feeling okay?" Kate asked me.

"She's fine. Maybe she just needs to get all the nerves out." I answered.

"Nerves?" Peter asked.

"All I've been told is that she wants to spend some quality time with her family." I said. Angela walked back into the room with Jessica and the two girls sat down on the couch. "Did I miss anything?" she asked me.

"Why didn't you tell us that was all you wanted?" Kate asked.

"What? I'm confused." Angela said.

"We're sorry that we haven't spent any time together." Peter said.

Angela looked at me and I just shrugged, giving her an innocent look. I knew she'd get me back for that later. She turned back to her parents and said, "I understand that you two have been busy due to work and all. I was busy with school and work too, but I always come home to an empty house when Jess is at school.

"Jess and I always have to eat dinner together while you two are either working late or out with friends or on vacation. Every birthday Jess and I had, you either had time for it or no time at all. I know there were those rare occasions, but it's not enough. Jess is only six years old. She needs her parents to be there for her, to love her, and to support her. Not just me."

Her mother reached over and gave her a hug. "Honey, we will do our best to watch out for Jess." Angela pulled away and shook her head. "You two barely had any time for me." she admitted.

"Can we at least try and make this Christmas count? For me and Jess?"

"Yes." Peter replied.

It was Christmas Eve, and not only that, it was my birthday too. The guys came over and met Angela's parents, then greeted me with birthday wishes.  Angela was putting something in the fridge when I entered the kitchen. "Are you hiding something from me?" I asked, walking up behind her. I placed my hands on her waist as I kissed her neck.

She let out a giggle, then turned around and faced me. "Yes and I'm not telling you what it is." She smiled, then kissed my lips. "I hate secrets." I told her and pouted.

"Well if I tell you, then you're not getting anything tonight." She smirked.

"What am I getting tonight?" I asked.

"You'll have to wait and see." She smiled.

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything." Peter entered the kitchen. Jessica appeared from behind him, tugging Angela's hand and pulled her out of the kitchen. I was left alone with her dad. "No, you weren't interrupting anything. Is there anything you need?" I asked him.

"Louis, you and I need to have a little talk." A little talk? About what? Angela? Maybe her parents didn't accept me after all. It was like my worst fears had finally come true, like they unfolded before me.

"Sir, before you jump to any conclusions, Angela-"

"I'm giving you my blessing." He interrupted me which interrupted my thoughts for only a moment. What? He just smiled as if I had been thinking aloud. I was. "Your blessing?" I asked.

"You are a wonderful young man. Both my wife and I have agreed that you can marry our daughter." he said. I still couldn't believe what I was hearing. He held out his hand towards me and I shook his hand. "Thank you." I smiled.

After the candles were blown out on the cake, we were all opening presents. "Here Jess, this is for you." Angela smiled, handing her sister a small box. Jessica took the box from her sister and opened it. "It's a necklace." Jessica held it up to look at it. I saw Angela glance at Harry who had been staring at the necklace in Jessica's hand. She smiled at him and eventually I'd find out that it was the same necklace Harry gave to her.

"Let me help you with that." Harry reached out his hand as Jessica put the necklace in his hand. He put it around her neck as she smiled and hugged him. "Thank you Harry!" she said.

I've never seen Jessica so happy in her life before. She was celebrating Christmas with her family and friends. I was just glad to see her being surrounded with people who cared about her. Harry sat down beside me and asked me why I gave the necklace to Jessica. "She needs it more than I do. She needs to know someone other than her family cares about her." I smiled.

Everyone finished opening their presents and it was Zayn who said that there was one gift left. I looked at him and the other guys who were exchanging quick glances with Louis. What was going on? I looked at my parents who looked like they were in on the secret too. What was I missing out on? I was so confused.

Louis stood up and I had a feeling I knew what was happening. It was just happening so fast. My heart was beating so fast and it was distracting me because I could barely focus on the words that Louis was trying to say to me. I was also distracted by everyone being in the room. I could feel the stares of everyone there. It was making me uneasy.

Louis took my hand, kneeling down in front of me. I suddenly realized that I was the only person standing in the room and I never liked the center of attention. It made me uncomfortable, but with Louis there, nothing and no one else mattered.

All the presents were unwrapped and I thought that the worse would be over when Zayn said, "There's one gift left." I exchanged looks with him and the other guys as well. They were all giving me the same look as well. Great. Just great. What happened to waiting a year? I looked over at Harry who gave me a smirk. He hadn't forgotten about the deal that we had. Neither have I.

I stood up and faced Angela. This moment had to come now? I asked myself. That didn't even matter. I knew I wanted this. "Angela, you are my best friend. You've been there for me through everything, including the accident. You were always by my side. When there were times that I wanted to give up trying to remember everything, you were the one who told me that I shouldn't stop trying.

"You helped me gain my memory back, the guys too. But mostly it was you. I couldn't just have anyone. I just had to have you. From the moment we met, I fell in love with you. I fell in love with everything that makes you who you are. Your personality, your eyes, your smile, your laugh, and even the little things. I love you."

I took her hand and knelt down in front of her, taking the ring out of my pocket. "Will you marry me?"
