Ocean Blue

Niall is interested in Mary because she doesn't swoon over One Direction. He asks her out and they fall in love, but what does this mean?

10. The Concert

Mary's POV

I straightened my newly blonde hair and slipped in my contact lenses. I shoved on my purple group dance dress and went out to meet Lou. He was disappointed in me but he understood.

"Hi guys, this is Kate, lead dancer!" He introduced me.

Everyone smiled, but Niall looked at me funny. I made my excuses and went to the bathroom. I hope he wouldn't realise it was me.

Flattening my dress and applying a dash of bright red lipstick. I gathered my dancers and went out on stage. We organised ourselves and the boys came on stage. They went through the concert and then Zayn asked an odd question.

"As a thank you to the dancers I'm going to get the lead, Kate, to pick the last song. It can be any you want."

"Do you know Galway Girl?" I asked him, knowing they did.

"We sure do, come on guys!" Liam shouted

Louis raised his eyebrows and Niall looked at me funny. He then frowned and muttered something to Harry. Harry shrugged and walked to the other end of the stage.

The music started and the boys began to sing.

"Well, I took a stroll on the old long walk
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
I met a little girl and we stopped to talk
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
And I knew right then I'd be takin' a whirl
'Round the Salthill Prom with a Galway girl

We were halfway there when the rain came down
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
And she asked me up to her flat downtown
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
So I took her hand and I gave her a twirl
And I lost my heart to a Galway girl

When I woke up I was all alone
With a broken heart and a ticket home
And I ask you now, tell me what would you do
If her hair was black and her eyes were blue
I've traveled around I've been all over this world
Boys I ain't never seen nothin' like a Galway girl

By the end of the song Niall's eyes had clouded over. I slipped off the stage and I saw him burst into tears behind the curtains. Lou was next to him and spotted me, but he didn't say anything. I took out my contacts and put on a pair of black jeans and a red sweater. I curled my hair, although I wasn't going to dye it back. The roots were still a dark brown, so the colour would grow back.

There was a knock on the door. "Mary/ I mean Kate? Are you in there?"

I opened the door and saw El. "Hey! What did you think of my dancing?"

"Why did you ask for Galway girl?" El didn't sound angry but she was interested

"I guess I wanted to see how he would react," I shrugged and went out the door to get coffee at Starbucks.

As we passed the boys room I saw Niall crying. I wanted to go in, to comfort him, but I couldn't. I couldn't break his heart again.
