4. The Sun and Wind

When she awoke she was in her nest, the sky was pale, and the sun rising; it added warmth to her fur. She got to her paws and stretched. Crescentmoon walked out of camp and headed towards the lake. The song of the birds filled the air as she ran through the trees to the water’s edge. Crescentmoon walked in ankles deep and dove underneath the water. When the she-cat opened her eyes a flash of scales flew past. She swam after it an outstretched paw hooked into the side of the fish. She dragged the carp to her mouth and swam towards the light. When Crescentmoon broke the surface the sun glistened down on her. She swam to shore and threw her catch on the pebbles in front of her paws. Crescentmoon grabbed it with her paws, running her claws down the side of it to remove the scales. When they were all gone she bit down taking a huge piece of the fish. The taste brought back memories of living in RiverClan; a panicked feeling rushed through her. She had never lived in RiverClan.

A flame-colored pelt ran in front of her when she looked up, Crescentmoon followed where it had gone but it disappeared.

“I have, I was born in RiverClan, but my mother wanted us to be with our father” A flame-colored tom with tabby patches materialized beside Crescentmoon;

“W…Who are you?” he looked like an apprentice but his blue-green eyes held wisdom far beyond his age.

“I am Sunpaw.” His fire looking tail curled around his paws

“Would you like to hear my story Crescentmoon.” Her only response was a nod. A purr came from the young cat.

“After six moon of living in RiverClan, my brother and sister’s mother wanted to be closer to her mate and our father. Strange cats had come to the forest to take it over. The leader of BloodClan, Scourge had threatened that a battle could come but Firestar, got a prophecy while drinking by a stream one day.” Crescentmoon’s ears pricked when he spoke her leader’s name,

“You know Firestar.” He smiled,

“I do, Crescentmoon, I must leave you know thought, I can no longer tell you the rest of my story, I shall save it for another day.” Sunpaw rose to fiery paws and faded as he had came leaving Crescentmoon with her unfinished carp. She rose to my paws and turned to leave. The sound of splashing made her turn back to the lake, RiverClan cats dove into the water and splashed at each other, Stonepelt, Skyfeather, and Sootstorm started swimming towards her.

“Is that Crescentmoon!?” Skyfeather’s voice called from the crystal clear water, her brothers followed her up the shore. They shock their wet pelts and rubbed their muzzles with hers.

“I’ve,” Stonepelt’s littermates cleared their throats.

“I mean, we’ve missed you so much.” Sootstorm’s dark gray fur shone in the sunlight along with Skyfeather’s silver tabby pelt. Her grey paws and white flecks shone brightly. Stonepelt’s pale grey and darker socks and flecks almost turned a dark grey. Crescentmoon purred seeing her friends from RiverClan

“So how’s life in ThunderClan?” Crescentmoon pushed Sootstorm with her paw and laughed,

“Same as always, I guess? So how’s RiverClan since the last time I was there” Stonepelt moved in front of his brother.

“Besides the fact that we have more warriors and kits, nothing much has really changed.” a mottled grey tom called from across the lake. Skyfeather turned to the ThunderClan she-cat,

“Sorry we have to go, Pebblefoot’s calling us. See you around Crescentmoon.” She went into the water after her brothers and vanished under the water. A sleek silver-gray she-cat with darker stripes called from across the lake,

“Crescentmoon would you please tell Splashfur that I said hello!” she turned around and Crescentmoon called after her,

“I will Shimmerheart!” the white she-cat turned and headed back to camp. When she entered through the thorn barrier Splashfur was sitting with Firestar at the fresh-kill pile sharing a vole.

“Shimmerheart says hello.” She looked up and swallowed the prey in her mouth,

“I hope your swim was nice.” Crescentmoon’s fur was still wet from the lake.

“I hope next time you can come with me.” A purr came from her mother,

“That would be nice Crescentmoon.” The white she-cat nodded and walked away, Ghostclaw was play-fighting with Cherrypaw, from the corner of her eye she could see Bumblestripe walking over to her,

“Brambleclaw wants you me, Dovewing and Ivypool to go battle training.” The four of us left the camp and walked over to the training hollow. Bumblestripe kept his distance from Dovewing, the pale grey she-cat walked in front with her sister but stopped when Onestar, Owlwhisker, Nightcloud, and Breezepelt walked out from behind a honeysuckle bush.

“I wish to speak with Firestar,” the brown tabby leader spoke; Crescentmoon immediately step out from behind Ivypool,
