8. Keep This Secret

“I… I can’t be your mate anymore.” She looked at the ground to avoid his gaze.

“What?” Crescentmoon closed her eyes the tears that fell washed away with the rain.

“I’m so sorry, I can’t see you anymore.” The she-cat turned away from him but he put his paw under her jaw and turned her back to him.

“Please stay with me. W… We’ll run away and be free of the warrior code. Just please stay with Me.” She shock his paw off,

“I can’t be worrying about our clans arguing about the things that could have happened. I have to go.” She turned away from him his mind was completely frozen,

“Crescentmoon I love you! Please!” Crescentmoon didn’t look back, she kept walking towards her own territory. She heard Breezepelt call her name again. But she just kept walking towards the forest. She never took one glance back.

Mousewhisker sat outside the camp entrance watching guard, as she passed him his jaws parted to speak but immediately clamped shut. The rain fell lighter than it had. Firestar walked past Crescentmoon, his gaze only drifted away from his path once. The she-cat curled up under the ledge that kept her at least dry. She closed my eyes for a split second and woke to a cat’s steady breathing next to her. Her pelt was drenched; she was cold to the bone. The rain had stopped; the sun shined threw the white clouds. She stretched letting the weak rays warm her. She turned to her left and saw Lionblaze’s fur plastered to his frame. Crescentmoon rose to her paws and sat next to him. She licked his wet fur till it was fluffed out and dry she did the same to her white fur. Her Fur shone but not as much as the crescent moon shaped mark on her tail.  Lionblaze stirred pressing his back against hers. A deep pain filled Crescentmoon’s chest where her heart was. The scent of Breezepelt still lingered around the she-cat. She sighed as she saw the dawn patrol entered through the entrance.

“Good morning Crescentmoon.” Jayfeather’s grey tabby fur shone in the sunlight.

“Good morning.” His pale blue sightless eyes softened for just a moment then hardened to ice.

“I’m sorry what happened between you and Breezepelt.” He turned away from the glistening white she-cat, leaving her speech less. Only the echoing of his paw steps were heard threw the camp. The grey tabby looked back only once. She had unfroze, but stumbled blindly over to a white and pale grey tom. Crescentmoon stared up at the clouds with Riverstorm; her heart still ached, like a cold chilling wind found a way into her chest.

“Why must things be so difficult?” Riverstorm’s broad shoulders leaned against his sister.

“If they weren’t then how would we live? We must go thru obstacles to follow the right path, the path that is told to StarClan, and is to be found out by us.” He straightened up and looked at the clouds,

“Riverstorm, can you keep a secret.” She could see his jaw tighten, he nodded.

“Of course I can Crescentmoon, well unless you actually are expecting kits.” The she-cat laid her head on her paws and closed her eyes laughing softly. She whispered so quietly that only her brother could hear.

“I can read minds.” He didn’t look down she lifted her head to meet his gaze.

“You’re kidding right?” their eyes locked,

“No, I’m not.” He smiled,

“Then prove it.” Crescentmoon closed my eyes, letting her mind wrap around her brothers.

“I know that you… miss the river. The swirling of the water on your fur when you went swimming with Oceanbreeze.” He sighed looking more relaxed then Crescentmoon’s seen him in a long time. He sighed letting his shoulders release all of the worries that were weighing him down. But before it could last any longer his shoulders tensed.

“Wait, how do you know that? I’ve never told anyone.” Crescentmoon rolled onto her back and stretched,

“I told you how. Do you believe me now?” his jaw hung open in surprise; Crescentmoon lifted her white paw and closed it,“Close your mouth before you catch a moth.” Once she removed her paw it clamped shut.

“How can you?” She shrugged,

“I don’t know.” Crescentmoon looked down,

“For how long?” She twisted onto her side,

“Forever I guess, oh and to answer your next question. Only you and Lionblaze know that I can do this.” He just nodded and Crescentmoon got to her paws,

“You promised, so you can’t tell anyone. Okay?” Riverstorm struggled to get words out of his mouth; his tongue was suddenly dry

“O…Okay.” As the white she-cat left she limped over to Bumblestripe and Blossomfall. Crescentmoon’s brother was left in the same spot, he had a harder time trying to understand his sister’s ability, jealousy and fear filled him. Why was she the one that had this gift? He knew that she wasn’t an ordinary cat. From the second that they opened their eyes she saw and heard things, no one else did. Crescentmoon had gathered a group of cats to stop a patrol of ShadowClan cats from attacking the camp. She had managed to save the camp but was in trouble for going against Firestar’s orders. But it was still hard to believe that StarClan had found an interest in his sister.
