1. First Day

My first day at a new school. It's not the first time I moved schools, it's about the fifth time. I had gotten accustomed to this life style due to the fact my father was in jail and every time we got a letter from him we had to move. My mom wanted me to be safe by moving me every four months. I really did not like living this way, but I had to deal with it. I didn't want my dad to get out of jail and hurt me and my mom again.

"Hazel, get ready for school!" My mom yelled from downstairs.

"Alright mom, I'm just putting my shoes on." I yelled back.

"OK, it's just, I have to meet with your principal at eight and I don't want to keep him waiting." My mom yelled back.

I was not so enthusiastic with the whole idea of going on a tour of a new school AGAIN for the fifth time. I got my backpack and swung it over my back. I was going to try my best to look like I cared. I walked downstairs into my kitchen to find my mom with the car keys and purse.

"About time." She said, laughing.

"Your lucky I didn't take longer." I said, laughing back.

We walked out the door and into my blue minivan that my mom has had for over fifteen years. I had no idea how it hadn't run out of miles or something. My mom jumped in the drivers seat; I took the shot gun.

"Let's go then." I said, turning the radio on.

My mom gave me a dirty look when she heard the song that came on my favorite radio station.

"What? It's a good song!" I said slapping her arm gently.

"It's stupid." She said, grumbling and then switching it to her favorite station.

"Mom, I hate classical." I said, moaning.

"It's healthy for you." She said, starting the car and driving off.

"How is it freaking healthy for you?" I said, looking at her weirdly.

"Just listen." My mom said, I knew she was done talking to me at that point.

We drove for almost twenty minutes and then reached the school. I was nervous, for the first time ever. I felt like this school was different, special even. I didn't want to go inside and take a tour of the school. I felt like everyone was going to stare at me like I was Jesus.

"We're here." My mom said, parking in the spot right next to the school entrance.

I was to afraid to go in there. I had no idea who I was going to talk to, sit with, ask where classes were, and who I was going to sit next to. For the first time, I felt nervous about school.

I got out of the car and looked up at the school.

"Whoa, this place is HUGE!" I said to my mom.

"Yeah, you ready?" She asked me.

"Mum....  I'm not going to preschool." I said, rolling my eyes.

"Fine, fine but I'm still going inside to meet your principal." My mom said.

"Whatever, I just want to get inside and have to tour over with so I can go to my classes." I said.

Butterflies were still in my stomach as I neared the entrance to my new school; New Burry High. I was only a junior, but I felt like a senior. I had been to so many high-schools, I just decided to loose track. I opened the door to the most horrifying sight ever; a beady set of eyes staring right at me. The principal. He was old, looked strict, and like a total kill joy. I looked over at my mom and saw her trying her best to be calm. She pulled herself together and shook the principal's hand saying,

"Nice to meet you, sir. I am Hazel Griffon's mom."

"Nice to meet you Mrs. Griffon." He said back, politely shaking her hand.

He was nicer and more polite that I thought he would be.

"You're the new student I presume?" He said, peering at me.

"Yes, we called for a tour last week." My mom said.

"Oh, I'm sorry, we can't do any tours today. The students are in testing. We do not allow tours during testing." The principal said, sympathetically.

"It's OK, we will come back some other time." My mom said.

I knew she really wasn't OK with it. Whenever she had something be cancelled, especially for school, she was not this chill. But I doubt she would freak out in front of the principal.

"Thank you for understanding." He said.

We were about to walk out the door when I saw him. He was so gorgeous I swear I was going to puke all over my principal. He saw me looking at him like a freak, so he smiled and winked at me. I think I died at that moment.
