Be Mine

Maddy was with Josh, the popular jock at school. But she had a crush on the mysterious curly haired boy named Harry as well. Plus, her best friend was showing her signals that he might like her. She's so confused. What if she falls for the other two? Life's just a mess for her.

2. Chapter 2

I walked down the hallways with Louis and Harry awkwardly to class. Harry kept playing with his pen, making that annoying clicking noise. I swear, I was about to burst and start yelling at him.

“Can you stop?” Louis asked him. I was relieved that I didn’t have to say those words to him.

“Oh,” Harry muttered before putting his pen back in his backpack. “Sorry.”

It was quiet again. It was awkward again. The only sound was Harry yawning and coughing and all of that. It was awkward just having that sound there.

“So,” Harry muttered. “Can I talk to you in private?”

I was thinking he was talking to Louis, so I just kept walking. Then a strong hand took a hold of my arm, making me turn around.

“I was talking to you, Maddy,” Harry told me.

My breathing increased but I just nodded awkwardly and crossed my arms. “Alright. Talk.”

He sighed. “Can I tell you something that I’ve only told Louis?”

“Sure, of course you can.”

“I like-..”

“Harry!” we both heard a high-pitched voice yell. Harry pressed his lips together and closed his eyes in frustration, but he turned around anyways to look behind him.

“Hey, babe,” he said in a kind of cheery voice. It was obviously fake, I mean, he was upset.

“Don’t babe me!” she yelled. She got closer to Harry’s face and grabbed onto his arm. “Why are you talking to Maddy?”

Before Harry could talk, I came in. “Because he can.”

Harry looked at me with a what-are-you-doing face. Trisha rolled her eyes. “Stay out of this,” she said.

“No, I’m good,” I spat. I looked at Harry. “If you don’t like her being jealous, break up with her, hun.”

“Excuse me?” Trisha said, raising her voice again. She looked at Harry. “You don’t love me do you?”

Harry pressed his lips together again and backed away from her. “No, I don’t,” he told her. “I’ve had enough of you getting jealous easily. I just want to be able to talk to my friends that happen to be girls without you going berserk.”

“Fine,” she huffed before running the other direction.

I smiled. Now that she’s out of the way, I can tell Harry my feelings for him. What about Josh, though? Aw, man.

“So, as I was saying,” Harry said, looking at me. “I like you.”

My eyes widened in shock. Jennifer was right. But I can’t tell him I feel the same because of Josh. “But..”

“No, don’t say anything,” he said. “I know you have Josh and you love him and all, so don’t say anything.”

“No, Harry-..”

“Stop,” he spat. “I know you don’t like me, so stop.” He sighed. “I better get to class.” He started walking away from me slowly.

I was about to reach my arm out and grab him, but I didn’t. I don’t understand why I didn’t. I should’ve told him right then and there. But, no, I didn’t. Great job, Maddy.

“Why didn’t you tell him?” Jennifer yelled at me, standing up from her seat.

“Shh!” the librarian hushed us, shaking her head and giving us a dirty look. Stupid librarians.

“I don’t know,” I told her in a quiet voice. “I didn’t want to hurt Josh.”

“Forget Josh!” she whisper-yelled. “You have to follow your heart, Maddy. And if your heart points to Harry, go for him.”

She was right, but how would I say all of this to Josh? He would be devastated. “Okay,” I said.

“Shh!” the librarian hushed us again, even if I just was talking in my normal voice.

“How about you ‘shh’ for once?” Jennifer basically yelled at her. The librarian stood up from her seat and started walking towards us. “Let’s go,” Jennifer said before we started running away from her. We won’t be able to go here again.

“Joshie?” I yelled across my house. He usually comes over after school and he’s always at my house before me for some odd reason.

“In your room!” he yelled back.

I sighed and ran upstairs, trying my best not to fall. I’m a clumsy person. I finally got to my room and saw Josh laying on my bed on his stomach looking at a magazine.

“Oh, hey,” he said, looking at me. He smiled and got up from the bed. I stayed put as he walked up to me and hugged me tightly. I didn’t even hug back. He let go of me and looked at me strangely. “You okay?”

“I have to tell you something,” I said out of the blue. I didn’t even plan on saying that. Oh, God.

“What is it?” he asked me, sounding concerned.

“I like-..”

“Please don’t tell me you like Louis,” he begged. My eyes widened.

“Why would I?” I asked him.

“You guys act like a couple most of the time and it’s pretty obvious he likes you.”

“Whatever,” I muttered. “But, I don’t.”

“Good,” he said, sighing of relief. “Now, what is it?”

“It’s Harry,” I said. I looked up at him to see if he understood. He had a blank face, so I assumed he didn’t understand. “I like Harry,” I told him slowly.

His eyes widened and he backed away from me. “You’re joking right?”

My breathing got hitched in my throat. Maybe I should lie. “Of course, silly, why would I like him?” I lied, feeling relieved slightly.

“Oh, thank God,” Josh said, sighing of relief. “Don’t scare me like that, babe.”

I just nodded. I can’t tell him. If I do, he’ll be upset and I hate seeing upset. But, what about Louis? What if he does like me? Well, shit, I’m screwed.
