7. What Was That About?

He approached them angrily, not even once looking at Scarlett. Stomping over to them, he went up at Ace's face.

"I won't let you do this." He said simply, anger radiating like waves from his eyes, his body posture stiff and unmoving. Scarlett looked at him weirdly. "Do what?" She asked puzzled.

Ace frowned. "What are you talking about? Won't let me do what?" His face was the definition of innocence, but his body looked guarded.

"You know what I'm talking about." Chase said, sweeping his long blonde hair off his face with a quick, fluid motion that left Scarlett dizzy for a second.

She looked between the two guys confused about what was going on and what Chase wasn't letting Ace do.

Suddenly Ace seemed to give up the little act of being confused and laughed mirthlessly at Chase, throwing his head back before doubling over in the hilarity which Scarlett couldn't see. Even the year 11s had stopped playing around now and were staring curiously at the trio.

"Do you seriously think I'm going to stop now?" He asked between laughs, "It's all working going according to plan." Scarlett threw her hands up exasperatedly.

"What's going to plan? Why won't you stop? What won't you stop? What isn't he letting you do?" She asked Ace annoyed. Chase, having finally acknowledged her, looked at her sadly, empathy shining out of every pore.

"I'm so sorry Scarlett, I really am." He said putting a hand on her shoulder and shaking his hair out of his eyes. She looked coldly at him, and shook his hand off her shoulder. "Sorry about what? What's going on?"

Ace looked maliciously at Chase, ignoring Scarlett. "Don't you dare tell her." His face seemed naive enough but his words cut like a hot knife through butter within Chase and Scarlett.

"Why? Tell who? Who's she? Tell her what?" Scarlett asked under her breath as Ace turned away and started walking out of the corridor, his hi tops banging against the cold, tiled floor.

Scarlett turned to Chase, a little calmer and not angry anymore. She was trying to seek some comfort within him as Ace had just left her here and walked off to who knows where. She thought he'd be upset with her because of her coldness to him earlier, but shockingly he opened his arms wide and smiled at her sweetly.

She accepted his hug graciously.

"Welcome back old friend." He whispered in her ear. She grinned against his shoulder and hugged him tightly. "Thank you Chase"
